Okay this is actually a topic I am not altogether familiar with! So I don’t want to give a completely uninformed opinion on it. But a funny story is that in my first ever amrev class, my prof was going on elaborately about the amputation process, and i, who had only had a bag of pretzels to eat that morning, was fighting for my life. It was very detailed.

The Good: Gave us naval power in the south. More money (we didn’t have any money.) Quite literally could not have won the war without them and anyone who has the nerve to say otherwise is delusional. Lafayette got to stay here and bring his friends along for the ride!

The Bad: George Washington still never learned to speak French. What’s that about? And in academic circles, the comparison between the American and French Revolutions falls into American Exceptionalism very quickly. (Looking at you T.H. Breen.) Just because the Americans didn’t have the guillotine or a reign of terror doesn’t mean it wasn’t a violent Revolution!
