Nonvegans: all food is guilt free, eat what you want!
Also nonvegans: vegans you should feel bad for the bees quinoa avocado dying child slavery for eating guilty chocolate almond agave sauerkraut. Oh! ohh! Shame on vegans! Shame on vegans 1000 years!
What the idea should mean: Your body is your own and eating foods considered “unhealthy” or “low quality” isn’t an indication of your worth as a human being. The quality and nutrition of food has no moral worth from a personal health standpoint.
What lots of people are taking it as: Just eat what you want when you want! Who cares if it’s the product of a tortured animal or sweatshop labor? Fuck them vegans for telling me what to do with my body! What do you mean the animals and people producing my food have bodies too? Nah fuck em (unless they’re growing food I think only vegans eat in which I care very much about them until I’m presented with a delicious chocolate milkshake and avocado BLT)

you’re not a bad person just because some people have bad perceptions of you. you’re not a bad person for being misunderstood or misinterpreted.
say what you will about the 90s but there were so so many women on TV with beautiful curly hair. we used to be a proper society
Every day I become more and more convinced that animal farming is one of the worst evils that humanity has ever conceived.
Ranchers kill and poison carnivores and scavengers on the mere suspicion that they might prey on livestock. Entire swathes of once-broad ecosystems are reduced to trampled pastures and crop monocultures for animal feed. It was and is a tool of settlers for making indigenous land more like theirs.
That's not even getting into the animal abuse inherent to the practice. It's utterly disgusting. Repulsive, vile.

Midsummar Fairies, by Emilio Freixas

imo the way you feel about groups it's fully socially acceptable to hate (like children or polyamorous people, among others) is the canary in the coal mine for underlying bigoted beliefs. if you're only supportive of marginalized groups when it's cool to do so, probably you don't actually care about marginalized groups, you care about other people thinking you care
there are 1 trillion people in the notes of this post saying "yeah! i mean i hate kids but they should have rights!" you hate kids? you mean you hate all members of an oppressed group solely for their membership in this group? right. why do you hate them? because they can't take care of themselves and need help? because they don't understand social norms and can be "annoying" and disrespect boundaries as a result? because they can be messy? because they don't understand things in the same way as you do? that's awesome. how do you feel about disabled people btw
this trend of shitting on peer-reviewed academic studies in favor of tweeting “we already knew this was happening” is so soul-crushing. not to be an elitist cunt, but we have got to open the schools again. people genuinely seem to have forgotten that their personal lived experience isn’t indicative of the larger population, AND IF IT IS…… then you need researchers to support these assertions from a relevant data pool instead of a blog post from 2013 💀
sorry but once you notice how often ppl use a southern accent as shorthand for being unintelligent you can never unsee it. classism is baked so deeply and why are you acting like anyone who talks the way my grandfather talks is stupid.

Then only privilege going on here is being so privileged you believe your taste buds are more important than another individual’s life.

Someone also pointed out in the notes of one of my posts that black Americans are 3x more likely to be vegan than the national average, despite also being much more likely to be low income. I looked if up and sure enough:
African Americans are almost three times as likely to be vegan than white Americans.
"[...] nowhere has the vegan diet taken off more than in the African-American community. According to Pew Research Center survey, 8% of black Americans are strict vegans or vegetarians, compared to just 3% of the general of the population.
Those findings mirror a 2015 poll by the Vegetarian Resource Group, that found 8% of black people were strictly vegetarian, compared to 3.4% overall.
Recently, a January poll by Gallup found that 31% of non-white Americans had reduced their meat consumption in the past year, compared to only 19% of white Americans."
Vegans are a diverse bunch and globally, it's the rich white countries that consume the biggest quantities of animal products, at the expense of the poorest, who suffer the most from the consequences of the environmental damage caused by mass animal ag.
If you associate veganism with rich white people, you've fallen for propaganda and might want to look up the origins of vegetarianism and veganism, at least if you don't want to come off ignorant and racist.
English translation of the poem "I No Longer Steal From Nature", written over 1000 years ago by the blind medieval Arab poet and philosopher Abu ‘L’Ala Ahmad ibn ‘Abdallah al-Ma’arri:
The following poem was written in around 1000 AD by a blind Arab philosopher, poet and writer named Al-Ma’arri: AD 973 - 1058.
Also this what al-Ma’arri ate:
Lentils and figs.
I'm pretty sure most anti-vegans will just scroll past this post or have the point completely go over their heads
But they'll sure reblog every unsourced post racistly telling them that veganism is an unsustainable lifestyle by and for rich white colonizers (while also heavily implying that they think BIPoC and their cultures of origin are inherently less interested in questioning the ethics of animal agriculture — which is the opposite of the truth, white people were in fact very late to the party).
