You wouldn’t think “awful” and “rapturous” would go together, but really, it makes sense. Ascending humanity is a brutal, terrifying process. Merely making contact with something you’re not ready for is enough to cause frenzy. Per the lore on frenzy;

I think the Great Ones are not malicious beings. I think they just live on a difference plane of existence that’s just barely compatible with humanity, and where the lines blur, things descend into what humans can only comprehend as a nightmare. So…
