My name is Hiram K. Hackenbacker, but feel free to call me Brains as that is what most of my friends call me.
I work as the head engineer and mechanic at International Rescue. If you have any questions about the Thunderbirds or any of the other equipment we use, feel free to ask. Obviously, confidentiality comes first, so I may not be able to answer everything. However, I will still answer any questions as best I can without jeopardising International Rescue and its mission.
Seeing as everyone else on Tracy Island has joined Tumblr, I figured I would join in with the fun, too. (I also may have been pestered after spending too much time in the lab, as if such thing was ever possible).
My inbox is open, and I'm always happy to help aspiring engineers and mechanics, as well as fans of International Rescue.
Hello, this is @little-vulpecula. It's my first time doing a RP blog, so apologies in advance. I am also fairly busy with university, but I will do my best to respond quickly.
This is mainly based on the TAG version of the character but will probably include some TOS aspects and some fanon.
Also, I'm more than happy to interact with OC RP blogs too :)
Also, just an fyi, I know that Brains has a stutter, but since this is his social media, obviously that won't be present in writing form. But if I get involved in some of the more story based rp then it will definitely be included. (I just wanted to put that as a disclaimer so no one thinks I'm ignoring that part of his character).
If you have any OOC questions about the account, feel free to ask my main blog ( @little-vulpecula ).
#Thundersocials for any posts that are part of Brains' social media.
#Thunderscenes for any longer form RP posts.
#OOC for any Out Of Character posts.

#ThunderFamilyAngst for any posts featuring angst between members of the Thunderbirds family

What Thunderbird would most likely survive an apocalypse?
I would say that very much depends on what type of apocalypse. If it's the sun exploding then I don't think any of them would survive. If it was a zombie apocalypse then I think they would all survive, mostly because I don't think zombie bites would do anything to vehicles.
If we're talking about which Thunderbird would be best in aiding your own survival then I think it's a little more complicated. Again it depends on the type of apocalypse. But I would have to choose Thunderbird 5. It's designed to be somewhere you could live for a long time so has all the resources you would need already on board. Also, by orbiting the Earth you'd most likely avoid any danger entirely.
Thunderbird 3 is a similar story. It is designed with living areas in order to support the pilots during deep space journeys, and it's ability to travel into space would also keep you safe from any dangers on Earth. Additionally, with Maximum MAX, it would have some defence against any dangers it might face.
Thunderbirds 4 and Shadow, whilst they would have their benefits in an apocalypse, are a lot smaller in size and therefore don't have the same benefits in supporting life long term. Although I suppose you could live in Thunderbird 4 at the bottom of the ocean for a little while to evade any danger.
Thunderbirds 1 and 2 fall somewhere in the middle. Both are capable of storing equipment that would aid in an apocalypse, and are large enough to provide comfortable living space (especially TB2), even if they weren't designed with that in mind.
I hope this answers your question? Although it is difficult to answer as there are many different types of apocalypse.
Clearly Four is the Earth option here šāāļø
Stack her with food, convert the intake to desalination, quick surface for the scrubbers now and again, and youāre good to go for at least a couple of months.

So⦠you have Thunderbird One socks huh? Any other merch we should be aware of hidden away under your uniform?
I am going to pretend this ask doesnāt carry the undertone I suspect it does.
Hehehe oh I have MANY pairs of Thunderbird One socks. She totally rules that part of the unofficial merch landscape (which otherwise is unfairly dominated by the big Green one). Of course the official merch is all perfectly fairly balanced.
Socks though - yeah the people who make socks just seem to have better taste (and I suppose shape-wise she fits the long thin tube vibe better than Four and Two would).
People seem surprised we collect some of the merch ourselves but⦠imagine somebody made stuff with your cat on it⦠youād want that right? Even if it was hilariously inaccurate⦠You kinda HAVE to really. When this stuff exists it would just feel wrong not to have it.
So yes while Iām not the avid collector of the more bizarre things with our faces on that Gordon is, I do have a liāl stash of my own things. Some of which I do wear on occasion.
As well as all the socks, I have TBOne cufflinks, a TBOne necktie, a throw cushion, several TBOne plushies, all of the official model toys that TI released (die cast and eco-friendly plastic) from teeny 2 inch versions to waist height
AND of course the limited edition one-off full size model⦠which isnāt actually a model š but sheās the cutest of them all and Iām the only one in the world who has one of those. š„¹
Someone released a Three punchbag at some point which I still find a little disconcerting⦠dunno if Alan ever had that? I donāt think I could even own a TBOne punchbag itās⦠I mean I could never š„ŗ
The other big thing is stickers. We have our own official ones that we give out to kids to help distract them on rescues and then there are are a lotta other sticker sets out there - ranging from inspirational / classroom reward type stickers to jokey and occasionally cheeky ones. I rather like a lot of these and tend to pick them up whenever I see them.
So does everyone else⦠Every so often someone will aggressively sticker our communal areas as a display of dominance⦠or even better sneak one of their bird into another bird to see how long it takes a bro to find⦠my best so far was a āTB One = #1ā sticker on the back of one of one of Fiveās solar arrays⦠took Johnny weeks to spot that one š
Kayo jumpscared me by leaving one in the little refrigerated unit in Oneās cargo bay - stuck my head in to grab a sneaky snack on a long rescue and come face to face with TBS with the caption āShe sees what you do in the Shadowsā. May have headbutted the top of the fridge a liāl bit there⦠suppose Virg would say thatās a lesson to never take off your helmet until the rescue is complete.
Anyway yeah, we have some merch. Itās all good fun and while I have no desire to be a ācelebrityā the idea of kids getting a kick out of playing with little versions of our ships and imagining growing up to become first responders themselves and help people⦠that does give me a warm glow. And while obviously quite a lot of it is produced without licence or our permission⦠we try not to be killjoys about it. The only stuff we try to get taken off the market is the badly made toys that arenāt safe, or are environmentally mentally damaging - and we always try to make sure we then make a good quality safe equivalent to replace it with.

If you found yourself unexpectedly becoming a father, would that change your role in International Rescue? ~šŗ
⦠Gladys? Is Gladys sending anon asks now? I mean, thatās a development in plant life if itās true. If itās not Gladys, whoās the flower? I canāt keep track of the emoji thingā¦
I mean, I reckon Iāve got a few years before theyād knock me off the spot for Thunderbird Four, right? At least until kindergarten? šāāļø
On the one hand there would be the very strong compulsion to immediately relegate all water-based rescues to WASP or something to avoid you ever doing anything risky from that moment on because nobody is losing a Dad on my watch againā¦
On the other hand I have a similarly strong compulsion to ask Brains to make a teeny version of Four that teeny blond kindy fishes could pilot because that would be adorable.
On yet another hand there is a part of my brain that already sees an adorable, tiny, yet bizarrely skilful kindergartener piloting a little yellow sub every day⦠and that makes me want to cheer with pride and scream in terror in equal parts. Cos heās the coolest cleverest liāl aquanaut there ever was and Iām always putting him in danger andā¦
Thatās already too many hands and I have none left to pick up my coffee.
Ooooooh @brains-ir do you think you could make a tiny training sub that we could use in the pool? And then eventually out on the reef! And a tiny aqua scooter, thatād be easier to do I guessā¦
Although we should probably start with a Four shaped pool floaty for them to bob about in⦠š„¹
I think it can be argued pretty strongly the cleverest little aquanaut puts himself in danger. Both at work and otherwise. I donāt think thereās anyone else to take the blame these days š
And donāt you dare ask WASP. If you-know-who turns up, thereāll be a bloodbath⦠š
⦠why donāt we have pool floaties already? This seems a significant gap in our fleet @brains-ir weād need them to be robust, could you use that same polymer you used for the airbag pods? We need them for all the birds.
Cleverest little aquanaut still has a Commander and in the end⦠thatās where the responsibly falls.
Heh I wouldnāt dare involve him. Firstly: I wouldnāt inflict that on a rescuee, secondly: youāre my brother and I love you too much to see you jailed for murder, thirdly: I love my own freedom too much to get myself jailed for murder.
⦠@brains-ir this is very important. Very very important. Maybe we could tempt @starman-john-tracy down and in the pool if he had a Five to float around in. Or maybe it would need to be like a Zorbing ballā¦
Okay, so Brains, we need us sized floaties first, and then the baby sized ones.
Meh, kinda. But also not kinda. Especially when the little aquanaut does what he wantsā¦
š¦ you are oh so wise, big brother. Weād be wasted in jail šāāļø

Risk assessments are very very very important. They keep everyone safe which is essential in this line of work. We very much need them and I refer back to them very often.
But... they do take a very long time to complete and I have been sitting at my desk for far too long.
This is not me saying they are unnecessary. We 100% need them, some companies could learn from our commitment safety. Maybe then we'd get less rescue calls.
I suppose it doesnāt help that certain persons you have to account for in your risk assessment somehow manage to create risks no usual human would identify as even remotely likely⦠š

There are far more constructive ways to process your emotions about the never ending to do list, long working day week month, the frustration of non-Brains designed computer systems letting you down at a really key moment for No Reason Other Than Of Course It Did.
One could go for a run. Have a joke with a loved one. Eat a pie. Take a liāl nap and take a breath.
Having survived several Kansas summers (and, yāknow, island life for quite a few years) and being a summer fan, I was not expecting to be accepting defeat at the hands of a village in south-east England but here we are. Consider me melted Foxley Heathš«

Thatās a loaded question Brains, itās debatable if I have ever been alright šāāļø but yes, just tired. Just a little dip in the sleep quality, it happens.
Yeah, Iāll survive, donāt worry. Minus some leg hair and with a painful reminder from our resident Princess š
More importantly, it was definitely propellant on the fin. Behind scram #3 and #4.

On slower days, my work turns to repairing the seemingly never ending pile of smaller broken gadgets. My patient at the moment; one of Scott's previous jetpacks that is currently suffering from a fried motherboard.
Next on the list; one of Alan's astroboards which has a broken thruster again.
Yes, I know, I know⦠I was tired and not thinking.
