Disability Manga Recommendations
We’re living in a world where disabled characters and disabled celebrities are getting more and more notice. Before, a list of disabled manga would be just one or two books with a side character who wasn’t a complete wet blanket. Now though, we have way more options. There’s lots of different types of story being told. From epic post-apocalypse adventures, to sweet teenage romance.
I’ve taken a broad approach to the term “Disabled” here. I’m not following any particular model. Just that, if there is something happening with your body that is preventing you from fully interacting within the society and environment you live in, then that’s a disability. I’ve also included some stories about temporary disabilities, the sort of things that impact your health and well being but are unlikely to be long term issues.
The stories are broken up into the different types of disability, rather than genre. Although it is interesting to see the similarities in types of story telling for different disabilities. Each entry includes genre breakdown, credits, and content warnings.
I have lazily used the official summaries, please forgive me for the lack of originality. However, I have provided a link to anything I’ve written about those series, if you want to hear my full thoughts and opinions!

This inclusion might seem controversial. How can pregnancy be a disability when it’s a vital part of the human life cycle? As I said, I am applying a broad definition of disability to this list. Child Birth has been one of the biggest causes of death in the history of humanity. Pregnant People suffer from a range of health problems from severe morning sickness resulting in hospitalisation, to debilitating depression. Pregnancy is disabling, and those going through any sort of health crisis deserve to have their stories told.
