One amazing Nico gag is him being the jealous (to borderline possessive tbh) one in solangelo and Will being publicly considered gorgeous. I just know Nicoās constantly mad as hell and I love that!
5 times Dan and Phil click baited us
+ one time it was real
One thing I need you guys to know.
Nico is closer to the dead.
Will is closer to death.
The dead and death are TWO. DIFFERENT. THINGS.
Nico is the son of the DEAD. He interacts with souls, and talks to the ghosts of people are already DEAD.
Will is a healer. A war medic. Death is basically where he WORKS IN. Anyone in the medical fields knows you will be experiencing death. Seeing the process of death.
The moment where people leave the living world. And experiencing the grief that follows after seeing someone die.
That is death.
Nico represents the beauty of death. The aftermath. Knowing the soul/ideas and ambitions of the person's life. The person that roamed this world. The voice of someone's life. The memories. What is left of that person.
Will represents the uglier side. The reality of it. The moment someone's string of life goes silent. The moment life leaves, all is left is the corpse. The shell of someone you used to know.
Hence why solangelo's view of the underworld is SO contrasting.
It's black and white. Because both represent different sides. SEEN different sides. They're so similar yet so different at the same time.
Solangelo is the start AND finish of DEATH. Will represents the START of it. Nico represents the END of it.
Two sides of the same coin.
The literal bridge between life and death.
One starting point and one end.
(And if you think about it. If you switcharoo them. Nico can also represent rebirth. And Will represents the end of life, because he's both of that. Maybe I'm stretching but fuck it. They're practically making a circle. The cycle of life and death.)

My glorious king Will Solace š§
Saw the Di Angelo siblings got casted for the show and something took over me so I made this
what I like about Solangelo the most is the dynamic because it's not opposites attract and it's not two people being so similar it's weird but a secret freakiest third thing that pretty much sums up in "I'm dissecting my boyfriend like a frog and he landed me the knife I'm doing it with."
TSATS gets a lot of unfair critiques but one I do agree with from fellow Will Lovers is that Will is done DIRTY the whole book. I donāt even mean heās lowkey dying the entire time (which is as funny as it is devastating), but I feel that many of his own issues are ignored. I love the focus on his anxiety and abandonment issues and struggles with not seeing himself as good enough and feeling that since heās The Healer he needs to Save Nico even though heās also just 15/16. All of that was great and fits in well with everything weāve seen of him and fleshes him out in a way I find satisfying.
But I think it was a miss opportunity to delve into the aftermath of at least Lee and Micheal. Technically I want the entire aftermath of the death of the Apollo cabin. We donāt get an exact number, but you cannot tell me that 1) Apolloās slutty ass (pos) doesnāt compete with Hermes in terms of number of kids, 2) that Will was the eldest and cabin councilor at 13 without him loosing a large about of older siblings, and 3) that that loss didnāt fundamentally fuck with him and contribute to his unhealthy sense of responsibility. But Iām willing to ignore that part only because we donāt get the names of the other Apollo kids (but we could have changed that in that book if they let Will stand his own character but whatever). Not addressing Lee and Michael though? Nope not buying it. This is worse when you remember Michael was never found as far as I know and therefore never got a proper funeral? Wouldnāt that at least imply that his spirit is just out there? And given that weāve seen he can hold a grudge it would have been interesting to see him become a mania and have them come across him in Tartarus instead of the satyr the do see.
I think ignoring the loss of Willās siblings not only undercuts what Will has gone through, but his burden as the Healer. Unlike every other demigod, Will isnāt allowed to die. If heās gone thereās no hope anymore. No healer means no fighters which means losing the war before it starts. He, more than anyone, has to deal with the consequences of war and combat. He either heals deadly injuries only to send them back out to fight again or (like touched on in the book) is the last thing those demigods see before going to the underworld. And then he has to just move on to the next person because war waits for no one. He doesnāt even get to celebrate the end of war because while the fighting stopped there are countless injuries that need to be dealt with for however long it takes to get them better with 4 people (if youāre generous enough to add Kayla and Austin and Chiron).
Even with Shipper Goggles on itās still a missed opportunity to have them bond over a shared loss. Bianca will always be a cloud over Nico. Itās the loss that set off everything else in his life. Will could absolutely relate to that loss given that he quite literally lost all but two (2) siblings. He lost his older siblings, his protectors, just like Nico did and gained an unhealthy senses of hyper independence like Nico did. Thatās something I think both canon and fanon often ignores which I personally find a draw for solangelo. Despite their surface level differences, Nico and Will are two sides of the same coin and much more alike than anyone (even themselves) expected. They arenāt so much opposites as much as twin flames and I really hope the second book leans into that more.

I will not apologize for the person I become when court of the dead comes out
I genuinely feel like if you refuse to read tsats then you shouldnāt insert yourself in conversations about solangelo. How could you possibly have anything relevant to say about the characters when you wonāt even acknowledge their series? The fandom already has a huge problem when it comes to mischaracterizations because they like the idea of Will and Nico more than they actually like Will and Nico so why make it worse by talking about things you have no idea about?
THIS! Iād also like to add ToA (specifically THO and ToN) to that as well. If you have not engaged with the canon material how are you critiquing what you donāt know?
TSATS getsā¦weird for me at times, but aside from some tonal issues and strange (in my opinion) character moments, the inconsistent characterization people complained about upon release isnāt really there, they just donāt remember how Nico acted/ thought in canon and straight up never engaged with canon Will material
hey gang how do we feel about solangelo

itty bitty ghost king šš
I dearly wish Nico was allowed to exist in the fandom outside of his trauma and/or sexuality because heās such an interesting character I could talk about him forever. Like I would give a limb for Rick to write about what the hell he was doing after he left camp after BoTL. His powers are so cool and highly underestimated. His relationship with Hades is so interesting. His role in the underworld both as prince and ghost king, his relationship with Persephone, with Bob. All of it spins around in my head 25/8.
What I think about most (and why his defanging by the fandom irks me so bad) is the fact that I think heās the only character we see kill someone on screen. Like, a person. A demigod. Dead. Directly by Nicoās actions. Percy is hyped up for his monster body count and sometimes people talk about the collateral deaths heās contributed to (I.e. Michael Yew), but Nicoās canonical kill count is largely ignored. Which is so crazy to me because he straight up murdered Bryce Lawrence in BoO. Turned him into a ghost and sent him to the underworld. And after he woke back up his main concern was not the moral implications of what he did but whether or not Reyna and Hedge would judge him.
And thatās not even the last time he did that in the book. Before Octavian accidentally shot himself in the sky, Nico was straight up planning to shadow travel into his tent and assissinate him. It happens right before running into Will and the others so itās often overlooked and then Octavian killer himself so you all forgot but EYEEE did NAWT! Also, with that last part he was team letting Octavian end himself and was the one to convince Will to let it go.
Even in ToN, heās metal as hell. When he saved Lester from the Germani (who are human or at least human-adjacent if I remember right), he did so by turning the guy into a skeleton. Like he straight up had that skin and flesh crumble away and started ordering around the skeleton left behind, spooking the SHIT out of the mortals that were also there. When facing Nero he was going straight for kill trying to cut him in half with his soul-sucking sword.
None of this is to say I think heās like, a cold blooded murderer. He isnāt happy to do those things and does wish that things hadnāt gotten to that point, but he also didnāt angst over it. That alone sets him apart from so many other demigods and I wonder if itās attached to the way he sees death and the underworld as the Next Step rather than the End like other non-underworld kids do. TSATS tries to touch on this but I think itās kinda cheap relationship drama rather than a real analysis of Nicoās moral code ā especially because they use Octavian to make a point rather than the person Nico actually killed. And they donāt even talk about the attempt assassination just the quasi-assisted suicide which is more about inaction rather than deliberate choice and Octavian was past listening at that point.
TLDR: Nico di Angelo is cool as FUCK and is 100% the deadliest demigod weāve ever come across if you would just let go of your 2010 interpretations of him (and if Rick let him be OP without fear of overshadowing Percy as Coolest Demigod).
