May 21, 2015: Jacob deGrom
It wasnât quite Corey Kluber, but Jacob deGrom tossed a gem for the Mets on Thursday. deGrom threw 8 shutout innings, allowing just one hit with no walks and struck out 11 Cardinals in the process. It was the 12th game of its kind since 2010 and the second this year, following the Kluber masterpiece from a week ago. Ironically, both of those games happened against St. Louis, the team with the best record in the majors.Â
deGrom missed out on his first career complete game due to already being over 100 pitches, but he lowered his ERA to 2.75 for the season. There were questions on how sustainable his success from last year was as he gave up just 7 homers in 140 innings, but this year he has give up 6 though 55 innings and has almost identical numbers. With deGrom and Harvey, the Mets rotation looks good for years to come.
