U.S. Attorney Announces $2.26 Million in Law Enforcement and Public Safety Grant Awards
MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — U.S. Attorney Matthew L. Harvey has announced Department of Justice grant awards totaling $2.265 million for law enforcement partners and community service organizations across the Northern District of West Virginia. “Our district is strongest when law enforcement and outreach services are well-equipped to serve our neighbors and keep them safe,” said U.S. Attorney Matthew L. Harvey. “This funding not only assists the recipients in their good work, but it improves the lives of every person living in those communities.” The awards, provided through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program, represent the nation’s leading source of federal justice funding to state and local jurisdictions, the District of Columbia, and all U.S. territories. For more than 20 years, the JAG program has provided critical funding to support law enforcement’s ability to protect the communities they serve, supporting critical needs such as personnel, equipment and supplies, technology, training, information systems for criminal justice or civil proceedings, and other operational priorities. JAG funding also supports a wide range of programs that strengthen crime prevention efforts and enhance the effectiveness of prosecutors, courts, corrections agencies, and services for crime victims and witnesses. “This funding strengthens our state, local, and tribal partners’ ability to address violent crime, support officers on the front lines, and keep our Nation’s communities safe,” said Associate Attorney General Stanley E. Woodward Jr. “The JAG Program continues to provide essential resources that help jurisdictions meet today’s public safety threats and uphold the rule of law.” The Office of Justice Programs has awarded $124,358 in Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance grants to five law enforcement offices in the Northern District of West Virginia to enhance officer safety, investigative services, and technology. Those departments awarded are: The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office - $23,697 for officer body armor The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office - $12,287 for firearms accessories and ammunition The Fairmont Police Department - $19,444 for technology equipment The Wheeling Police Department - $57,790 for investigative technology and equipment The Ohio County Sheriff’s Office - $11,140 for investigative technology and equipment BJA awarded more than $199 million in state JAG funding across 56 awards and more than $90 million in local JAG funding across 895 awards. In addition, the Office on Violence Against Women has awarded $2,141,039 in grant funding in West Virginia. The West Virginia Office of Justice and Community Services received $1,329,906 to strengthen law enforcement, prosecution, and court strategies to combat violent crime against women and to strengthen victim services in domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking cases. The office also received $811,133 to support rape crisis centers and non-profit organizations that provide services to victims of sexual assault. Today, we have Cris Pannullo, whose cash winnings after 16 matches total $566,344, Sheila Anderson, and Matt Harvey. I gave out a brief note about Cris and his substantial lead yesterday, it turns out that Matt stole the lead over Cris. In HOW TALL/LONG/HIGH?, Matt found the 1st Daily Double, he went “all-in” out of his $2,000 and came up with the correct question. There were 10% of triple stumpers and 13.33% of rebounds in the round. Going into Double Jeopardy!, Matt had $6,400, Cris had $4,400, and Sheila had $1,800. In Double Jeopardy!, Cris stole the lead over Matt, and they had colossal reflexes. In MORE THAN ONE SILENT LETTER, Matt found the 1st Daily Double, he bet $5,000 out of his $13,600 and came up with the correct question. In NOBEL LITERATURE PRIZE WINNERS, Cris found the 2nd Daily Double, he went “all-in” out of his $12,400 and came up with the correct question. There were 16.67% of triple stumpers and 10% of rebounds in the round. Matt came up with 82.14% of correct questions, Cris came up with 81.48% of correct questions, and Sheila came up with 77.78% of correct questions. Going into Final Jeopardy!, Cris had $24,000, Matt had $21,400, and Sheila had $4,200. This is not a runaway game for Cris, he has $2,600 more than Matt. This is the 3rd time this has ever happened to Cris. The category is NAMES IN U.S. HISTORY, and the clue was, “This father was the only man among the 13 plaintiffs in a class-action case filed in 1951”. Sheila came up with, “Who was Oliver Brown?”, which was correct and bet $0, in which she stood at $4,200. Matt came up with, “Who was James?”, which was incorrect and bet $12,999, which dropped him down to $8,401. Cris also came up with what Sheila said and bet $20,000, which took him to $44,000. Cris Pannullo wins his 17th game with a total of $610,344. He needs $3,269 left to become the 8th biggest overall money-winner, and $389,656 left to become the 6th Jeopardy! millionaire. Note: I put SpongeBob SquarePants in this photo because of Cris’s well-known thumbs up gesture throughout his run. @jeopardy #kenjennings #crispannullo #sheilaanderson #mattharvey #recap #2022 https://www.instagram.com/p/ClkfaC3ulPC/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Hello from @CitiField for a rather bizarre #HarveyDay — the once star of the @Mets rotation, #MattHarvey @mattharvey33, is throwing for the @Orioles today against his former team. Good to see him pitching in #Queens again. #LGM #LFGM #NYC @MLB #baseball ⚾️ 🍎 🎩 💙 🧡 (at Citi Field) https://www.instagram.com/p/COx5TrXhYkn/?igshid=1r0hayshjeck6
#MattHarvey @mattharvey33 will be the starting pitcher for the @Orioles vs. the @Mets at @CitiField today. Yes, all #Mets fans know Matt didn’t leave the team under the best of circumstances. But I’m sure we all remember how fun it was when we eagerly awaited a #HarveyDay when he was at his high point. The way I see it is this... Matt suffered some really terrible injuries and it’s quite the story that he’s back on the starting staff of any @MLB team and pitching effectively. So to acknowledge his time with the Mets, I’m wearing a jersey I never got to wear before today. In 2016, the Mets honored the 30th anniversary of the 1986 champions by donning that style jersey for Sunday games. Here’s the Harvey version. Good luck in #Baltimore, Matt. #LGM #LFGM #Queens #NYC #baseball ⚾️ 🍎 🎩 💙 🧡 (at Rockaway, New Jersey) https://www.instagram.com/p/COxhR_6BDnA/?igshid=1c8rvwec7d0eq
