Because like you don't develop full empathy until you're a little older, so you couldn't create a fully complex world full of actual people. And even though Emilie is naive and sheltered and acts younger than she is, she's still an adult who's gone through end of life stuff and law and bureaucracy and work and stuff, so I just think a lot of the actual experience of being there would be kind of horrifying, and that is super cool. Like would you want to stay forever? What does she learn about skya's arrested development as a person? How is it being in a society that's obsessed with the 6 month period fifteen years ago when the boys were there?

Does a world get more real the longer you live in it, and does her adult influence start to change things? Politics, sex , morality, religion, all that. Is a child's version of escapism, born out of trauma, really that satisfying to everyone else

Honestly the hardest parts are getting there at 530am and bringing enough stuff to do to occupy you until 8pm if it's slow

My mom and dads relationship is not even the trad Christian breadwinner/homemaker thing at all - my ma has always been super independent, she is the only one who can do anything with a tool or machine, my dad had no interest in being "in charge" or being the only one working. But you can't not have some influence from your parents, and these two were born in the 50s, so my ma has always "managed" the house. She makes the grocery list, he buys the groceries. She cooks everything, he does dishes and laundry the same every time. She cleans the house. She manages what they have and what they need. He executes if she gives direction, but he does not manage

Now they are in their 70s and my ma has been unwell, and it is terrifying. This is a thing I have in common with my friends who are in our 30s-40s-50s. If our moms become incapacitated first, how the hell is this guy gonna live? Especially if he himself is elderly? And has memory/hearing/motor issues? He never learned to do so many things because he wasn't supposed to and then didn't have to.

I'm not even talking about the asshole conservative husbands who are like "my daughter will take care of me, problem solved." My dad adores my ma. When she is sick, he wants to help and make things easier for her. But he does not know how to do things, and his memory is such that you can't just show him once and have him remember and do it alone. He doesn't have the years of muscle memory or habit. It's scary for him and it didn't have to be like this.
