It is time⌠I will be ranting about my HC about Law again (sorry not sorryđ¤Ł)
Spoiler warnings and mentions of things that are sexual or terrible in nature, this is your warning đ viewer discretion is advised, or whatever it is that those American shows say when they contain violent or sexual content đ
Law has a bit of a 3-stage personality. Thereâs the cool, composed and calculated persona that carries something like 1-5 percent of his actual personality but itâs more or less a construct.
If heâs cool and suave and sweeps you off your feet, congrats, you basically fell for him doing a tactical play and he has zero actual (romantic or sexual) interest in you. He might play the part if thereâs something to gain in it for him, if he flirts with you, you better look at it as a chess player doing a tactical move rather than someone showing interest in you.
There is of course a âmiddle groundâ where the motive is less strategic and more⌠curious. Law is a freak with an unhealthy obsession with learning what makes a human body twitch and how it functions. So if he likes you as a person (stuff that peeks his interest are intelligence but also defiance and rebelliousness, so if you can show him that youâre a sharp little cookie that takes no shit from nobody, you will earn his attention and most likely his respect) he might offer a night together. But there are strings attached; basically you have to agree to let him take you apart - sometimes literally. The night ends once heâs found every pleasurable point on your body and youâve come enough times to literally pass out.
Either way, Law never actually fucks his âpartnerâ in these situations. Granted, if he liked you enough to offer a night together, he will use the memories of your time together to jerk off when his libido acts up, but his mindset while trying to find what to do to make sure you come hard enough to see stars is far closer to his mental state performing surgery than someone seeking sexual pleasure. Itâs about being mentally sharp, paying attention to what heâs doing, how it affects you, about being in control and controlling whatâs happening and achieving his goal, whether itâs saving a life or giving you the most earth-shattering experience of your life. Either way, Law will not actually fuck you any more than heâd try performing surgery while dick-deep in someone. But between his hands, voice, lips and tongue, none of this is something that any of the girls lucky enough to have had him like that realizes. Because what man would rock your world so thoroughly and walk away with nothing in return? Except Lawâs motive was never to get his dick wet, it was to learn what pleasured your body, the sounds and expressions you made while falling apart over and over again and he very much got what he wanted.
One could assume, he could just fuck them once they passed out, it shouldnât even take that much time, except Law canât for the life of him see the appeal of a body whoâs not actively interested in him. Asleep? Passed out? Drugged? Drunk enough that the person is obviously not in their right mind anymore? As far as Lawâs concerned, it might as well be a decomposing corps for all the sex appeal it holds for him.
Which brings us to the subject of Laws sexuality. I wish I could just say âI hc him as Xâ but (and hear me out, I only have a basic understanding of the different sexualities despite considering myself on the demi/ace spectrum) I donât have an simple âoh, heâs Xâ to give, while I do 100% see him as someone who doesnât want you for your body, he wants your body for you, itâs not so simple as saying heâs pan or something.
Rather (like every thing else in Laws life, poor boyđ ) itâs more complicated than that. Looks? Body parts? Even age doesnât matter when it comes down to it when it comes to sexual compatibility with Law. Vibes and personality matters to catch his interest (and keeping it) but if you want to actively get his dick in you (or your dick into him) two things are needed. You need to want it, know that itâs absolutely what you want and show him that yes, youâre interested and horny, thankyouverymuch, (his libido wonât spark without it) and the second thing? Trust! Law is notoriously guarded and will not lower them or give up control when in the presence of other people under any circumstance⌠EXCEPT trust.
If the trust is there (and it doesnât even have to be something unreasonable like âoh they will never hurt or betray meâ but a âin this moment, itâs okay to not be in control, not be in charge, not to be guarded, itâs okay to feel pleasure, to feel safe, to just BEâ) Law can relax and actually enjoy the sex, something he doesnât really do, unless he trusts his partner in some way.
Law has insanely high standards for any and all partners, partly because he just doesnât feel the same need most people do, and partly because, well, LOOKS isnât something that he cares about but the nature of both parties feelings and intentions are.
Law will not fuck;
Someone below him (crew members, patients or someone whoâs emotionally attached to a patient)
A prostitute (well, he wonât buy sex, as he doesnât think that consent can be bought, he allows his crew to buy sex, as long as they never try to mess with the contract agreed upon; ie, not pay in full or do stuff not agreed on)
Anyone who looks up to him (he has no interest in someone who looks at him with rose-colored glasses or put him on a pedestal, the name of the game is equality or play time is over)
Anyone who looks down on him (see above about equality)
Anyone who would would look at them having sex like something dirty, as if Law fucking them has made them diminish in value, made them filthy or defiled them in any way or form, or the other way around. (Law has no interest in âdefilingâ or being âdefiledâ he had enough of people looking at him as if he was nothing but plague infected filth as a child, and he has no room for it in potential sexual partners)
Safe to say, Law doesnât fuck often, maybe once every 1-5 years, as itâs honestly not something that he particularly cares for either way. If he canât find someone who ticks all of his boxes, he frankly doesnât want it. His libido is nearly non-existent (especially when he doesnât have a partner) so it doesnât frustrate him or try to lead him astray, and while his crew worries about him he wouldnât want it any other way.
Now, overall I hc the One Piece world of existing in a kind of world that is psychologically, morally and more or less sociologically like something out of the 1600, slavery? Understanding of psychology? Rights? Itâs not comparable to the morality of today, not that I consider the moral and legal right of todayâs age like some pinnacle of rights and justice⌠just that itâs very different. (And yet, depressingly the same in some ways). So I do think while he could definitely be sexually interested in another man, itâs even less likely to happen because of the general idea (historically speaking) that any man who âtakes the womanâs roleâ is considered âless thanâ and while I can see Law not giving a shit about what other people say about him (unless itâs damaging towards the persona heâs created for himself, like making people think that heâs weak or that they can take advantage of him, or something that might make Doflamingo think heâs not the faithful little pawn he wanted him to think) I donât think heâd be able to stand being intimate with someone that he cares enough about to trust and let them get close enough for sex, knowing that while they might enjoy and want it, in some ways they see the entire thing as unclean and one of them made lesser. Which I think would kill any libido Law might have had in such an situation.
Not sure if Iâm making sense đ itâs hard to explain stuff thatâs as convoluted as Lawâs sexuality, especially as I see it heavily influenced by trauma (just like Law in general).
But to get back to topic; Law has a âcoolâ persona towards strangers and people that he doesnât trust. But letâs say, he accepts you into his life, he approves of you as a person and heâs trusting you enough to start trusting you⌠enter the next stage of his personality; the socially inept awkward boy who has the social IQ of -10. Law can not for the life of him understand and grasp the art of casual interaction. So for the most time heâll just⌠be there. Not really taking, because what on earth is he supposed to say? To do? Law sure af donât know! Youâre not a threat to scheme around or guard against. Youâre not someone that heâs in charge of either, are you? But this thing -whatever you want to call it- itâs new and dangerous and youâre not a close friend or family or someone whoâs proven themselves (not yet) but if he genuinely believed that you were a threat, you would not be there.
Honestly, I hc hard that Law depends heavily upon his crew in social situations. Their job is to be social with any potential new members. Law will spend the time studying any newcomer, how they act, how they get along with the other crew members, what they like and dislike, what they can bring to the table. And only once they pass Lawâs inspection are they finally (officially) considered one of the crew, usually it takes the form of Law giving them their own jumpsuit.
But if Law canât hide his awkward ass among his crew, the award silences will be excruciating. And if you try to be social and bridge the gap, be aware that it will make things 1000% worse. Because Laws way of interacting with people who he sorta-trust-but-donât-really-trust-the-trust-he-has-in-them-yet, he withdraws, he will watch you and how you behave and interact with the world around you, and if you approach him⌠congratulations, youâve now changed whatâs going on from âwild creature studying something to decide if itâs a threat or notâ to âcongratulations, youâre now inside the same cage as an extremely dangerous creature, try not blocking the door if you want to liveâ. Best case scenario, he gives you a short response and leaves, or just look at you blankly, not saying anything, until you remember that life is good, actually, and fucks off on your own.
But if, and I canât stress this enough, IF both of you survive going through his awkward, uncool phase where you learn about his actual personality and what heâs actually like⌠when youâre someone who understands that the cool-cat personality is an act, but also that Law might be the closest thing to an actual cat trapped inside a human body youâve ever seen, when he doesnât just trust you but is comfortable in your presence⌠then you will find the most authentic Law you could possibly hope to find.
Not some cool and untouchable guy, not some awkward loser who couldnât find the way to string two words together in your general direction if his life depended on it.
But something else entirely, a gremlin child who feeds on chaos, a professional surgeon who needs (and demands) that everything follows his will, who despite being absolute in his power, would never chain someone to his side.
He might be the only reason that each and every member of his crew is currently alive and kicking, but if they didnât want to be there, they wouldnât. And there has been plenty of people who left, because it was too much, because the life of a pirate didnât agree with them, because seeing the stuff Law was capable of scared them⌠And Law reacts the same way every time. Heâll give them some money and let them get off on an island that they like because he knows objectively speaking they will be safer and probably happier away from him. And the thing about Law is (at least until Dressrosa) that the only thing he wanted was keeping those he cares about safe, and defeating Doffy.
But his path is not the safe path, in fact, the world has afforded him no safe path so he decided a long time ago that if it was his fate to live a life where he would be chased, used and killed for the selfish whims of others regardless of what path he chose, then he would pick the road where he was the freest and subject to no ones will but his own.
And his crew love him, because they know at his core? Law is a lot of things; mischievous, controlling but never cruel, kind but practical, pragmatic and logical but not without feelings and they know heâd give them the one thing that the world never gave him; the choice of living a normal life. And theyâd do well for themselves too, Law has high standards and has taught most of them not just how to read and write more than their own names but also mathematics, how to fight and how to treat wounds so they could pursue work as both guards or medical personnel, especially in small towns or communities where the standard were usually âdonât faint at the sight of bloodâ or âdonât lose their head at the first sign of problemsâ or even âcan follow verbal instructionsâ.
And to the crew members who not just stay, but actively refuse to leave, because they know their captain; heâll absolutely try doing this solo. Weâre talking about a man who performed surgery on himself alone in a cave with nothing but his haki-encrusted nails and a devil fruit heâd had for less than 48 hours when he was only 13 years old and sick enough that he wasnât surviving for more than a couple of days if he didnât.
To the people who follow Law, who gets the honor (and terrible trouble) of being part of his crew, there is no better life out there. Because what life could they possibly have outside if they had to live with the knowledge that they abandoned the man they loved and adored the most to face a fate he was not afforded the luxury of choosing?
Good lord, I should probably go over this, but my dogâs being a little bitch so I suppose I should just take her for a walk⌠and eat. Will post this but will definitely come back later to continue⌠I still have FeEliNgS about Law I need to go through lol
Some more hc about Law that are near and dear to my heart, less graphic in nature so⌠enjoy đ
I have never encountered something similar, but I HC *hard* that Laws earrings are actually gifts. Either completely, or that he bought one of the rings while explaining to Shachi, Penguin and Bepo about how pirates originally got piercings like these because in case of a wreck or getting washed overboard, if they found themselves on a beach somewhere they would have something to barter with or sell for money. And while Law acknowledged the fact that he possessed the buoyancy of a led-bucket (the irony not lost on him) he still likes the esthetic and plan on getting a matching pair one day before they set sail only for S, P and B to individually decide to try and get the other one as a yule present leading to Law getting 3 identical earrings from his best friends and laughing himself absolutely silly at their surprised faces at they realize that they each, individually, had had the exact same idea đ (in the case where Law didnât buy the first one, the fourth is actually a gift from Wolf, either way, I just love the idea of the four earrings having emotional significance to LawđĽ°)
Because a lot of fandom seems to ignore Laws biological family I like for them to have left two very impactful statements that Law carries deep in his heart and actually formed core parts of his view of the world. (Specifically, Law as a small child having heard another doctor complain to his father about a patient lying to him, and Law asking why they would lie? Arenât they there to get better? His father carefully trying to explain something really complex to his very smart - yet highly impressionable - child that sometimes people are embarrassed to speak out about their symptoms, sometimes they are in denial, sometimes they just forget to mention things or just donât realize that theyâre significant details to mention⌠âRemember Law, a doctors job is to help the person who comes to them, sometimes that means we have to figure things out without the help from the patient, or despite the information they are willing to give⌠But always remember that a Quack that listen to his patient will always be a better doctor than a highly educated professional who dismisses every word out of a patientâs mouthâ
And when it comes to his mother, Law asked why they preached about the world being âfallenâ in church when Flevance was such a lovely place and everyone always so kind? And his mother spent a long while trying to find an explanation that was truthful yet age-appropriate before telling Law âwe live in a world where every single parent are blessed with a child that is everything they deserve or better, yet the same can not always be said about the childâ Law did very much not understand what that meant at the time.)
Because Law had no pictures of his biological family or Cora-san, he actually tried to draw them from memory before their faceâs faded away too much or disappeared from memory completely, itâs a bit awkward looking because Law very much draws faces like someone whoâs understanding of a face comes from anatomy of the skeleton and how muscles lies around the bone structure and not how to draw someoneâs face to make it look like the person đ he was so embarrassed about it that he hid the drawings underneath the floor of his room in the Tang
Thatâs it for now, if youâve bothered to read this far, Iâd love to hear about your own hc about Law or the Heart Pirates â¤ď¸

Fanart of the newest chapter of my fanfic! If any of you ever were interested in the concept of âhey so what would happen if a 15yo Law met the red hair pirates?â make sure to check it out!
I've been thinking about Law and Doflamingo each saying that the weak don't get to choose how they die, and one big difference between them in this regard. Law was still planning to throw his life away at the point he said that. While Doflamingo would never do something that like to appear strong.
When Law says that about weakness, it feels as though he's valuing the choice of deciding how he dies above the methods and above his own freedom. There is a contradiction to what Law was going to do. His plan for his death in Dressrosa would not be something Doflamingo views as strength, merely because Law chose it.
Usopp has a similar stance as Cavendish's, when he protects Kin'emon and Kiku.
I believe then, that part of the reason Doflamingo says what he does about who gets to decide how they die, may be another thing he does to control others.
If Doffy can get his followers to believe in his words, about the value of choosing how you die and that equaling strength + earning his praise, then they will be more willing to throw their lives away for the sake of furthering his goals.
Though if Doffy truly valued and encouraged the individual choices of others, he would never ask them to die for him, as he did to Monet. He's hypocritical about that belief to some extent too.
The illusion of strength vs true strength. Perhaps Doffy feels a need to have a backup method in case any of his crew would ever defy him.
If he sees any rebellious behavior in them, or thinks they may become powerful enough to challenge him, teaching those views about the strong getting to choose how they die to his crew gives him the ability to have them "prove" their strength by choosing their own way of dying. Thus eliminating them as potential threats to himself/his goals.
Iâve actually touched upon this a little in the past, but I donât think Law tried to throw his life away⌠he was prepared to die, as he should have been, going up against Doflamingo! But the way I see Lawâs character is someone who values his freedom over his life. And thereâs no way Iâd believe that Doffy would ever let the op-op fruit go, and Law would know that.
So he was bound by Cora-sans sacrifice and his own need to be âfreeâ. Free from Doflamingos influence and reach, free from his (perceived) debt to Rocinante for having to pay for Lawâs life with his own.
Law technically had other choices as a child. He could technically have hidden himself, as well as the fact that he had a devil fruit, from the world. But would it have been anything other than a cage in Lawâs eyes? To never be free? To never get to do what he wants, when he wants?
Law has the ability to make someone immortal, just like Robin, he needs to be strong enough to fight for his right to live. He probably has to assume anyone can, and probably will, betray him unless incentivized to do otherwise. Or he knows them well enough to know that their loyalty is beyond question. Or knows what type of person they are and technically owes him a life-debt⌠point is; Law doesnât seem like the type to trust easily.
I once read someone talking about how Luffy and Law were the ultimate duo because they balance each other out. Luffy is too rash, to impulsive and trusting. While Law is too cautious, too careful and distrustful. Luffy makes Law more impulsive, more true to himself and more âplayfulâ in his interactions with Kid and Luffy, making banter and silly fights and even trolling them.
As for the whole âthe weak donât even get to choose how they dieâ I always felt like it wasnât really something that Doflamingo taught Law, as much as it was Doffy putting into words something that Law had already internalized, namely the destruction of Lawâs home and country. They had been weak, gullible and used only to die a miserable death at the hands of the world they believed in. It was an acknowledgment of the brutality of the world he lives in, as well as a reminder to himself the fate that awaits him should he be unable to break free from his fate of just being another victim of the world he lives in.

Iâm a manga reader, Iâve only recently (like a couple of years) watched the anime (in the form of reaction content) and in the manga Law has the same dark dot as his pupil that Oda use to draw the overwhelming majority of male characters so at the beginning I always saw Law as having dark eyes. I later was introduced to Laws anime design with his much paler, steely-grey eye color and went âhmm, thatâs kinda nice actuallyâŚâ but I still thought of Law as someone who had dark eyes for the most of the time.
And then I came across that apparently Odaâs eye color on Law is a like a yellow/amber-like color and went âđâ and now itâs my only canon lol.
But it did give me pause, what if Laws eyes actually ARE dark brown, but his much lighter, almost yellowish, colored eyes are a case of contamination from the white lead (he had) and itâs still some left in his eyes to this very day?
The thought of the potential angst is enough to make me swoon (sorry Law, I swear I love you đ )
Like originally Law was determined to remove it, but he couldnât just remove it all at once because it would create empty pockets in his eyes and Iâm no doctor but I donât think having air pockets in your eyeballs sound like a good and/or safe thing to have, you know? And every time heâd try remove whatever small amount he could safely remove it would require him to stab himself in the eye like a 100 times to get it out properly and I feel like having a first and second pov of slicing your own eye into tiny teeny slivers would be extremely taxing in the long run. So eventually Law just went âfuck it, I guess I have yellow eyesâ and even years later when he definitely knew easier ways to âfixâ it he didnât bother because it wasnât hurting him or effecting his eyes function. Nor did he want people to question why (and more importantly how) tf he suddenly had a different eye color.
Which leads us unto another hc; namely that Law hid the fact that he had a df for at least a couple of years from the authorities. He wouldnât use it in fights or in situations where it was at risk of being reported back to the authorities (ie, if he was fighting marines). If he was in a fight he couldnât win, heâd try running away (and once out of sight, disappear under mysterious circumstances) or get caught and then disappear mysteriously once he got the chance to do so âsafelyâ. In fact, the belief that he didnât have df abilities saved him and his crew a bunch of times because seaprism stone is both rare and extremely expensive and nobody use it on people who isnât df users unless they are strong enough to ripp apart steel with their bare hands or something, as itâs one of the stronger materials out there.
I have two hc when it comes to Laws tattoos, well I have a bunch of hc actually but two I want to bring up here; we know Law only had DEATH tattooed on one hand when we first meet him at Sabaody, and due to Odaâs attention to detail and the fact that you canât see parts of his chest-heart tattoo even when you definitely should, I firmly believe that he doesnât have it at that time. But Iâm also 100% sure that the smiling faces on his chest is Cora-san and is definitely among the first tattoos he got, if not THE first, and this happened at an illegally young age and he got it at the same time he got the sun-looking ones on his arms.
I shouldnât have to get into the significance of the smiling face and why heâd want it (his own little way of trying to keep Cora-sans promise that theyâd travel the world together). Instead I want to focus a little on his arm tattoos.
They donât seem to have any specific significance to Law (the way a smiling face or the symbol of an heart has) it is however in a very visible spot if you, letâs say, are waking up after sleeping. In other words, itâs an immediate reminder that heâs cured in case his sleepy eyes are seeing white spots on his skin⌠something I imagine would be very traumatic to Law; for even one second believing that heâs back in time, slowly dying in one of the most horrific ways possible.
Law is the only pirate to offer severance pay if someone wants to leave his crew. He insists itâs because itâs the logical thing to do and not because heâs kind or anything like that. Itâs just enough money to last them a couple of days/a week or so and itâs just so that they donât have to desperately take a bad job that exploit them in a time of need. Heâll also let them come with if they donât want to stay on whatever island they are on (they do however need to work for food and board). He insists that itâs because he has no use for them if they donât want to follow his orders and sticking around because they donât want to risk starvation or a shittier job isnât what he wants so it in everybodyâs best interest to make sure that if someone wants to leave, itâs as easy as possible.
Lawâs love language is being a little shit. Itâs also pushing people away out of fear of losing them. But after that itâs being a little shit and taking care of them. As such Laws crew is extremely spoiled.
Law has issues with being touched. Itâs a combination of internalizing how people viewed him as a child (as something dirty, a plague), the excruciating pain he was in constantly and how being touched only made it worse and the who knows how many hours he lay in a pile of bodies to escape Flevance.
The last part is also why he is difficult with smells and likes grilled fish over grilled meat.
Thereâs a reason why Ikkaku is the only girl on the crew, and itâs because the Tang is mostly communal. There are curtains on her bunk bed and for one of the showers in the shower room, but she has no room for herself as the Tang lack the space (Law has used all the space to turn the ship/sub into a mobile hospital) and most girls/women donât agree to that arrangement.
Law never threaten to kick his crew out, he will however remind them that they are free to leave if they donât want to follow him. He does however threaten to chop them up, and his worst threat is to be âcratedâ, which is when he chops someone into pieces and store them in a box or a crate or something similar. And that will be for several days if youâre unlucky⌠he has used it on other people, and his crew are not willing to risk it so him telling them something like âif you do x, I will crate youâ it pretty much guarantees that they wonât.
Law finds it amusing to get carried by his crew and will let them carry him across streams or shallow rivers as long as they can do it without getting him wet/dirty. It started with Law being a brat towards Shachi and Penguin, often cheekily demanding one of them carry him across as to not get dirty or ruin his shoes. It is one of the only times Law is okay with being touched outside of the Tang and itâs highly popular and the ones that are capable will quite literally trip over themselves in their haste to offer (and get the honor) to carry Law across đ¤Ł
