"dihs the favourite child" this "hes the 1st and original son/robin that"
Said by someone who only ever reads nightwing comics or animated shows
If we're going by COMICS (!) its between Tim & Cass
Ive read a few of Dihs time as robin and then compared it to Tim's early robin days and Cass' earlier appearances but the way Dih was treated was VERY different to the other robins, I would argue even Jason is more loved (as a robin) considering the fact that he was adopeted even before Dih. He was treated like a partner yes, maybe hes Bruces favourite partner because Bruce didnt have to worry about him as much as the others but that doesnt mean hes the favourite robin/child. Tim canonically has the most hugs from Bruce (i swear that boy is always being hugged by somone in most of his runs), and Cass has the healthiest relationship or as healthy as it can get. Cass and Bruce get along the most, her and Duke have rarely had a falling out with Bruce. But everyone refuses to see that because they are fixated in their personal favourite character being everyone else's favourite (i am guilty of this myself).
That brings me on to be second point.
Animated Dih is NOT comic Dih, just because he is the animators favourite and hes has a hundred and one shows doesnt mean its canon. Hes your favourite because you didnt consume media outside if his character and refuse to see that just Because Bruce is seen caring for him as father would do so in his own shows or comics doesnt mean anything. Like let's talk about all star batman. Bruce treated Dih HORRIBLY in his early robin days.
So let's stop projecting just because YOU think hes the favourite doesnt mean he actually is and please read about the other characters instead of your favs so you dont come to this conclusion again.
oh boy, is this an argument not worth jumping into but alas it has annoyed me enough to pull up *actual* evidence instead of vaguely referring to some comics that exist out there.
these arguments over who's the favorite child or the best robin tend to always boil down to people just propping up their personal favorite, or bringing down characters they don't particularly like out of sheer malice, and that's exactly what you're doing lol.
while bruce has never definitively stated who his favorite child is, there are so many panels out there that point to dick being the one he regards in the most special light. here are just a few examples:
Tales of the Teen Titans (1984) #50
JLA (1996) #73
DC Universe: Last Will and Testament
Infinite Crisis #6
Robin: 80th Anniversary Special
bruce literally loves him and admires him so much that he didn't feel like he had the right to pull him away from the life he'd made for himself even though he needed him:
Batman: Prodigal
you say people who claim this have only read dick's comics, but it's kinda clear that you haven't read enough of his comics either to properly argue against this statement.
the reason jason was adopted before dick is a matter of historical context (i am not *too* familiar with these laws, but bruce could legally not take in dick as anything other than his ward when this was originally written), and later on, a matter of respect for dick's parents. before the crisis, bruce explains that he was just too young and never gave it much thought, and in post-crisis, dick was the one who didn't want bruce to replace his father so bruce decided to not adopt him to respect his wishes. i also just once again don't view this argument as something indicative of favoritism, as it is all just a matter of circumstance. and it kind of feels like we're teetering on the edge of "your parents love you more if you are legally their child and no other form of parental relationship is as valid".
Batman (1940) #439
using the amount of hugs a certain character has as proof that they are the favorite is just deeply unserious lol. and just because characters haven't fallen out with bruce as much as dick has is also a weak argument, since 1) conflicts don't have to be inherently negative and are often grown out of love between two characters, and 2) it's literally just up to the writer and how much conflict they want in their story (which in rebirth, is not a lot). and it's also not really fair to compare the relationships and conflicts bruce has had with characters who have only existed for a fraction of dick's existence. like of course he will have argued more with dick (created in 1940) than with duke (created in 2013). not to mention how the different eras and writers also impact the nature of these relationships, since both bruce and dick have been characterized in several different, often contradictory ways.
you say bruce being shown to care about dick doesn't mean anything, yet you cling onto the flimsiest evidence to support your own claim that he isn't the favorite.
and, know that once you seriously bring up all star batman and robin into a conversation like this one, you lose any credibility lol. that comic is not only an elseworlds, but also such an insane misrepresentation of their dynamic that many people have genuinely accepted it as satire 😭.
i'd encourage you to listen to your own advice and stop projecting yourself. unless you have actual panels to bring into such a discussion, you cannot expect people to take you seriously when making such definitive claims, especially when it seems you've only read barely a few comics about the character you're discussing.
peace out ✌🏻
Now show All-Star Batman & Robin
i literally explained why all star batman & robin should not be considered a valid comic to discuss in this conversation, but still you're so adamant that one singular elseworlds (!) comic, that's only 10 issues out of several thousands, is the representative proof that supports your statement. very important for me that you understand the following:
the same way you claim that people can't take the content from animated adaptations to state that dick is the favorite, using an elseworlds comic that is as canon to the main continuity as the animated projects you're denouncing (read: it's not) is just hypocritical lol.
following your logic, that one singular comic defines 80+ years and thousands of issues of bruce and dick's relationship, i am making the statement that bruce hates tim because in robin #120 it is shown that bruce’s actions deliberately caused tim to have a nervous breakdown. nothing else is valid, this is the ultimate representation of their relationship. no matter how much evidence there is out there, no matter how many hugs tim has received from bruce, tim will never be the favorite because bruce treated him so awfully in one comic! i am right bc you love tim drake's overrated and unlikeable ass too much to see the truth!
Can i get the same energy towards my newest post? Or is hate towards Dih the only thing that needs defending and hate towards any other character is valid?
You Dih riders just keep proving my point
