The fact that DC never brought back Nocturna Post-Crisis (shut up about New 52 Batwoman I don’t care about tgat isn’t her) drives me so insane because Jason’s Post-Crisis origin would’ve made their mother/son dynamic work EVEN BETTER. Now they were BOTH poor street kids who were taken in and given access to luxury by an unethical rich man. The parallels are SO STRONG. But no, Jason doesn’t get to have complex relationships with anyone other than Bruce, and bo one can be bothered to remember that Nocturna even exists
Scrolling Jason Todd tag on AO3 trying to find a story about Jason Todd
The biggest issue about "good parent bruce wayne" is that it doesnt change the story prior to the current time in the fic. Jason seems to be angry about nothing cause bruce clearly loves him to others but the fic writer has forgotten to add in things that would make bruce a good parent prior (one of which is acknowledging jasons feelings and talking over it with him. he does this in the comics pre-crisis after jason takes the robin suit without asking). a real good parent bruce wayne au would have jason stay a velcro child imo because his dads been. a good fucking parent and hasnt slit his throat or invalidated his own emotions
via (@warrior-of-storms) Yeah. pretty much. then again most good parent bruce aus dont really have writers that put much thought into jasons run (not im a mean way but like genuinely. its not the run that everyone remembers immediately. most people read aditf and then nothing else. if even that theres people who just watch UTRH and base jaybin off that)

Edit: since there seems to be some confusion about all the AU Jasons, here's a list of where they're from.
From Left to right Red Hooded Ninja: Young Justice cartoon Red Hood: Red Hood and the Outlaws (2016), DC comics Arkham Knight: Batman: Arkham Knight video game Red Robin: Death in the Family interactive movie Father Todd: Flashpoint: The World of Flashpoint #2, DC comics
Dick and Jason
Updated version, since Tumblr REALLY doesn’t like me editing lists that were made in the old text editor. (The original, the rest of the lists, and a reading guide, are HERE):
I think the funniest Jason Todd and Tim Drake dynamic is when Tim idolizes Jason and Jason hates Tim on principle but AS SOON as they meet in person for the first time, Tim switches to thinking his former hero is just a cringefail loser while Jason switches to thinking this new kid is pretty neat and wants to team up with him.
Like, they have these ideas of who the other person is in their heads that don’t really match reality. And ACTUALLY meeting causes a complete reversal of their earlier dynamic. But also with Jason completely beating the shit out of Tim while Tim still acts like he’s better than him.

i loveee 80s comics like theres just so many reasons to like them:
jaybin
koriand’r :D
no tim drake
new teen titans
stories that are compelling without being excessively gritty
no tim drake
theyre still rife with misogyny but its somehow better than stuff from the 2000s? (question mark)
lots of experimenting within comic books at the time, so you can find anything from silly episodic shenanigans to gory psychological horror
no tim drake
kory anders :D
batman soap opera !!
did i mention no tim drake?
So it’s widely accepted within the fandom that Jason Todd likes to read, and as someone who has read a lot of his comics, there are lots of instances of Jason making references to literature throughout the years.
But do you know who else has made many many references to literature over the years? Who is canonically a Shakespeare nerd with a particular passion for seeing Shakespeare performed? Who consistently is depicted with floor to ceiling book shelves in his room, and who had a whole arc in Rebirth about his favourite book from childhood which massively inspired him? RICHARD JOHN MOTHERFUCKING GRAYSON. I love Jason, but there are not enough fandom references to Canonical Bookworm and Shakespeare Nerd Dick Grayson for my liking.
I’m not even saying we should take away Jason’s status as the resident bookworm (sure it might be slightly over-exaggerated in fanon, but I do think removing it as a trait entirely could lead to some narratives which are accidentally (or purposefully) classist, and it’s not like there’s no canon evidence to support it anyway) — but I do think that there is a lot of potential in recognising Dick’s own canonical interest in literature. Just think of the arguments about Hamlet! They’d be insufferable!
(guy who's not getting anything done voice) I need to learn every skill and all information
a little funny how jason is perpetually depicted as the distant, grumpy one, rejecting advances of love & acceptance when he's the one who gets up to all these fucked up versions of looney tunes shenanigans to ask hey do you love me pls say that you love me i really wish for us to be family i want to be back with you say it say it say it say love me love me love me pls pls pls pls pls pls FUCKED UP methods, let me repeat but the point stands. he's the one desperately reaching out over & over & over
Dc comics is like my boyfriend who constantly disappoints me and shows up late for dates and constantly messages other girls and all my friends think i should break up with but will give me a beautiful gift once a year that stops me from breaking up with him.

the “fuck canon everything is made up do whatever you want forever” approach to fandom can be fun in small doses but i find that subscribing a little too hard to that attitude can lead to this belief that serious engagement with and analysis of a text is an act of no fun self-flagellation when that couldn’t be further from the truth. analysis is literally fun
even going “fuck canon” is more fun if you do the analysis. spite is a love letter and i have editorial comments
“DC stands for Disregard Canon” hits harder when it's the conclusion finally reached by a comic reader who has engaged with the original texts and beaten their head against the inconsistencies caused by decades of rotating writers/artists, many of whom see characterization as something to be thrown out when convenient
it means fucking nothing when invoked by someone as an excuse to cover for the fact that they've never read an actual comic in their lives and only knows the fanonized versions of characters from Tumblr AO3 and TikTok
the most important virtues for the young woman are as follows: time theft, selfishness, orgasms, irreverence to authority, sacrilegious behavior, a questioning mind, and eating regular meals.
