Wasn't able to make it to the Billy Strings Halloween show like I planned. Time to watch the livestream and be super normal when it turns out to be an incredible show.
Saga update, DID make it to Billyween this year and I was even more normal about it
Just realizing I've never plugged my Grateful Dead podcast
For the last two and a half years, I've been co-hosting the Help on the Way podcast. Every week, we get a random Grateful Dead show (totally random, some weeks it's May 77, some weeks it's July 95), and we comment on the show. It's kinda Mystery Science Theatre 3000 for Deadheads.
Over the last year or so, we started having on really cool guests, so I want to especially highlight those episodes :
Betty Cantor-Jackson:
In a very special bonus episode of Help on the Way, Knob is joined by legendary audio engineer Betty Cantor-Jackson. The two discuss Betty's

Anyway, enjoy! Getting to say "I interviewed Betty Cantor-Jackson" is one of the wildest things to have happened to me in the last year.

In April, I saw Phish for the first time. The guy in front of me overheard that, so he handed me a few stickers, including this one which I cherish to this day.
Funniest sticker I've ever seen.
Happy birthday to this Pickle Rick Weed Sticker a wook gave me. Hope that wook's smoking a joint and enjoying the Berkley Tweezer rn.

I’m a published Phish scholar now.
Here’s the article I wrote for .net about the history of “Sigma Oasis”

When Bob Weir sang “let your life proceed by its own design,” apparently this is what he was talking about.

This would've been worth getting into debt over

Thinking about how when my oldest brother took Japanese classes his professor was like your pronunciation is really good 😊 but you need to watch movies that aren't about the Yakuza because you sound like a criminal
somewhere in this beautiful world there is a man who sounds like Paulie Walnuts because he learned English by watching the Sopranos
To all those entering the thunder dome of Phish MSG tickets this afternoon, may you come out on top by the luck of the draw
this is is exactly what reba by phish is about

📽️LIVE NOW: Billy Strings is kicking off Halloween weekend #AwayFromTheShire 🧙♂️👁Order the Livestreams now, including multi night passes in
OK, I haven't seen anyone on Tumblr talking about this yet, and it makes me sad, so I'm gonna make my own post.
Last Halloween, Billy Strings - a grammy-winning musician, virtuoso guitar player, and one of the biggest acts in both bluegrass and jam band music - performed a three-night run in Asheville, NC based on Lord of the Rings. And y'all, he went for it. The run of shows includes:
AWESOME costuming. The production value is extremely good, and some of the details are delightful. For example, the fiddler is Legolas and he has a quiver of violin bows.
Rushad Eggleston (you may know him from the video where he eats tofu while playing the cello) is Gollum.
A small woman dressed as an elf (Ahn Phong from Twisted Pine) plays the most badass flute solos you have ever heard.
Great music - Billy's originals, bluegrass standards, and covers from Pearl Jam to Led Zeppelin with words changed to be about LOTR, as well as some awesome takes on Tolkein poems and music from the movie soundtracks.
At one point in the second show, during a barn-burner jam, stagehands dressed as orcs use a catapult to fire a beach ball into the crowd.
Basically the best commitment to the bit I've ever seen out of any performer.
Long story short, I am in love with the fact that this happened and I think that everyone should at least watch this clip. I don't think the full videos of all the shows are publicly available but I am trying to obtain them, and in the meantime I think everyone owes it to themself to watch this bit of the first show that was streamed on YouTube (show starts at 7:30). It's a 15-minute progressive bluegrass jam based on the LOTR theme and it fucking rips. If you have ever wondered what it would be like if Frodo, Sam, Gandalf, Aragorn, Arwen, and Legolas could fucking shred, than oh boy, you are in for a treat.

My dad keeps sending me articles about how people complained about the sound at the music festival I worked at as if that's my fault somehow
