I know I have at least 5 book reviews to write
And I wouldn't bother at this point but I genuinely like writing them
Instead I'm going to start a new book!
FEMSLASH AESTHETICS: agnieszka & kasia
Ā Ā āi kissed her; she put her arms around me carefully and tightened her embrace little by little, until she was hugging me. i closed my eyes and held her close, and for a moment we were children again, girls again, under a distant shadow but happy anyway. then the sun came down the road and touched us. we let go and stepped back: she was golden and stern, almost too beautiful to be living, and there was magic in my hands. i took her face in my hands a moment; we leaned our foreheads together, and then she turned away.ā

The Dragon only had his one tower, and not a single man-at-arms, or even a servant, besides the one girl he took. He didnāt have to keep an army: the service he owed the king was his own labor, his magic. He had to go to court sometimes, to renew his oath of loyalty, and I suppose the king could have called him to war, but for the most part his duty was to stay here and watch the Wood, and protect the kingdom from its malice.

everybody has that one fictional character that they irrationally adore above all others and will defend to the death and you just get super happy and excited whenever you see their face on your dash

Finished: Uprooted, by Naomi Novik
This my first 5 star read of 2016. Does that tell you anything? Uprooted is pretty much my idea of a perfect book. It maintains a moderate pace throughout, and reveals new information in a steady trickle. The main character is special but you don't get hit over the head with it. There's no such thing as instalove. There's really no such thing as love at all. The hint (and I do mean hint) of romance is subtle and palatable; it doesn't spring from nowhere and it's not overwhelming. The world is built around hints of familiar places and real-world cultures, and still manages to be unique. And the magic system. I love the magic system. Like, I kind of what this to be part of a series of loosely related stories. If I had to make a complaint, I'd say that Uprooted isn't very diverse in any terms, and the last few chapters can get a little muddled if you don't pay close attention. I still love this, though. I love it a lot.
