you mean to tell me that there’s this beautiful book, called Winter, and I’m NOT supposed to do a photo shoot with it in the snow?

Dear Cinda Williams Chima,
Who gaVE YOU THE RIGHT
I still haven’t read any more of the book because I think about what happened and I’m still angry
update: it’s been three months. I might finally decide to read this again but i’m still salty :/
LITERALLY WHY THE FLIPPING FUCK HAVEN’T ANY OF YOU PEOPLE READ THE GRACELING REALM TRILOGY YET
YOU WANNA KNOW WHYYOU SHOULD READ THIS TRILOGY? OKAY I WILL GIVE YOU SOME REASONS:
ONE HELL OF AN ENTIRE BOOK ABOUT PEOPLE OF COLOR. AS IN PEOPLE WITH DARK BROWN SKIN. OH YEAH MOST MEDIEVAL FANTASY NOVELS HAVE ZERO TO NONE PEOPLE WITH A DARKER SKIN TONE THAN “SUN-TANNED.” NOPE NOPE NOPE. KRISTIN CASHORE DOESN’T TAKE ANY OF THAT SHIT. IN “FIRE,” THE SECOND BOOK IN THE SERIES, THE MAIN CHARACTER (HER NAME IS FIRE BTW THE TITLE OF THE BOOK) SHE’S NOT WHITE. AND NEITHER IS THE PRINCE. NEITHER IS THE KING. NEITHER IS ANYONE IN THAT BOOK. EVERYONE IN THAT MEDIEVAL FANTASY YA NOVEL HAS DARK SKIN.
A+++++++++++ FOR FEMINISM. ALL OF HER FEMALE CHARACTERS KICK. ASS. AND NOT NECESSARILY WITH A SWORD OR SOME KIND OF WEAPON ALTHOUGH THAT’S COOL TOO. KRISTIN MOTHERFUCKING CASHORE UNDERSTANDS THAT A WOMAN DOESN’T NEED TO WIELD A WEAPON TO BE CONSIDERED STRONG.
THAT FLIPPING QUOTE RIGHT UP THERE. DO YOU SEE THAT? HOW REFRESHING. YOUNG GIRLS ARE READING THESE BOOKS. AND THAT QUOTE, RIGHT UP THERE, IS JUST A TASTE OF THE ENTIRE SERIES. ALL THREE BOOKS.
“OKAY”, YOU’RE THINKING, “SOUNDS PRETTY GOOD SO FAR. A LOT OF WOMEN-EMPOWERING STUFF, GREAT POC REPRESENTATION, BUT WHAT ABOUT REPRESENTATION FOR THE DISABLED?”
WELL I’M NOT GOING TO SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THAT BECAUSE IT WOULD BE A SPOILER BUT LET’S JUST SAY THERE’S A LITTLE SOMETHING IN STORE FOR YOU, TOO.
IN OTHER WORDS, IF YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY PICKED UP THIS MOTHERFUCKING SERIES YOU BETTER GO TO YOUR LOCAL BOOKSTORE OR LIBRARY AND GET IT RIGHT NOW BECAUSE YOU. WILL. NOT. BE. SORRY
Don’t forget queer representation!
Raffin/Bann: A explicit gay relationship between two main characters from the last book we grew very fond off, that’s not particularly plot relevant (seriously, so fucking sick of this “the author doesn’t mention their sexuality in-canon because they want to show it’s normal” queerness can be normalized AND visible goddammit).
Prince Skye is gay, and Tilda and Bren are in a lesbian relationship (and currently looking for a babydaddy).
Mentions that the Dells have same-sex marriage and talk about the political implications and issues of a royal being homosexual.
TWO major characters are bi. Saf and Fire have had relationships with both men and women, and the narrative never puts one over the other.
Hurrah for a series that doesn’t deny queer people exist!
Name that book
book-bear:
Okay so I’d love some help with this!!! There’s these 2 books I read quite a while ago but I can’t remember either the title or the author’s name for the life of me :( they’re not popular books so it’s a practically impossible to find them on Google. While I don’t even remember the main character’s name I remember the (major) plot points. I’d love it if people could spread the word and help me find the name of these two books!!
In the first one, the main character is female. Her last name is Glass and she’s Asian and I think it takes place somewhere in Europe. She has the ability to communicate with this boy through her mind, and one day they wind up meeting on accident when the boy moves to the town where the girl lives. He’s a cousin to the largest family in town but I can’t remember why he moves. I can’t remember a lot of what happened but it’s revealed that the boy’s family is a bunch of witches and when his mother and the girl’s mother were pregnant, the boy’s mom (the witch) cast this spell so they would be linked (they as in the moms) but didn’t realize the affect the spell would have on their unborn children.
The second book’s main character is also female only she’s a ghost. She died at a party when someone pushed her into the water and she drowned. A lot of people mourn her death and throughout the book memories slowly come back to her, though several times she reenacts her own death (unwillingly) and then wakes up in a graveyard with no way to tell how much time has passed. There’s also this dude who almost drowned for whatever reason and after the incident he can see her and his grandmother reveals that the family is actually ghost hunters and once they have a near-death experience they can see ghosts, though their goal is to help the ghost move onto the next stage of life the boy doesn’t want to do that bc he’s in love with the ghost girl (which his grandmother does not approve of). And then there’s this other ghost dude that shows up that tries to manipulate the ghost girl but I think she manages to escape.
That’s all I can really remember about the two. I’d love it if someone could help me out!!
Nevermind, I found the titles through google :)

‘By the time you see this announcement,’ he says, ‘I will be dead.’ He goes on to say that it wasn’t a career in law enforcement that killed him but two packs of cigarettes a day. I saw this at about three o'clock in the morning, alone in my apartment, on a black-and-white set with lots of interference. White noise and snow. He seemed to be speaking directly at me, right out of the television set. For a moment I was disoriented, seized by panic; could a ghost embody itself through wavelengths, electronic dots, a picture tube? What are the dead, anyway, but waves and energy? Light shining from a dead star?’ - The Secret History by Donna Tartt

Reading Challenge 2016 [ 5/50 ]: No Exit by Jean-Paul Sartre
“So this is hell. I'd never have believed it. You remember all we were told about the torture-chambers, the fire and brimstone, the "burning marl." Old wives' tales! There's no need for red-hot pokers. Hell is—other people!”
