I've just found my old silver snaffles book which was passed down from my grandma to my mum and then to me and omg it's so beautiful and it smells of old books and this is what got me into horse riding. My grandma used to read this to me before I could read and I always wanted a pony I could call Tattles
I started Jumping again in my last lesson! It was so good but omg I hurt so bad. I've used muscles I've not used in like 10 years but it was so worth it. I'm so happy to get back I to jumping
So I'm at the stage now where I need to start planning what I want to do after I graduate. At the moment I'm planning on going abroad to au pair for a year but I've been finding myself ruling out families if they don't have horses and therefore really narrowing down my options. I've also been looking at post-grad courses but I dont have to right degree to go straight into one. I have enough outside experience to maybe start a postcert in animal welfare and then I was considering asking if I could maybe combine it in with the equine welfare and make it into a MSc but I dont have enough experience with just horses to get onto an equine course and I don't have enough time to start volunteering at the yard more bc of work. Becoming an adult is stressful y'all. Don't do it.
my horse’s fly spray bottle: avoid contact with skin - may cause irritation
me, 100% done with horse fly bites, spraying the repellent all over my body: save me spray daddy

Okay horseblr
I need to find an English saddle for the horse I’m training. She’s a draft, not exactly sure what breed, I never asked. She’s 16hh and the only saddle her owner has that currently fits her is an Aussie and she uses that with just a thin, cheap saddle pad underneath. (Also the bridle and reins she currently uses are old as fuck and the leather is so dry it’s snapping off when she puts it on the mare, but she’s got a newer, better one she should hopefully be cleaning.)
I want to know all your thoughts and favorite, affordable saddle brands and what you all would say would be the best reccomended style, etc etc. Since she’s a draft, she’s of course a bit on the thick side, but she’s not fat, I’d say. She was a very comfortable width for me to sit on and it didn’t feel like I was riding a balloon lol
So please help a girl out 😁
Having the exact same problem with Tommy... He has a slight sway back, absolutely no withers and he's quite wide so we can't get anything to fit him. He's an Irish Cob type but our farrier reckons he might be a Percheron X. His western saddle is specially made but too heavy for him and we can't really afford to have an English saddle made rn so if anyone has any saddle suggestions any help would be greatly appreciated
Tommy living up to his name and getting a little excited when we're lunging... We had a few little issues yesterday when he was up in the yard. He's not being ridden at the moment because we can't find a saddle to fit him and his Western saddle is too heavy for him so I had him up in the yard and we did some ground work. First off he spooked on our walk back from the field and started to spin into the road. I had forgotten to put his Dually headcollar on so he was just on a normal one so I didn't have as much control over his head as I usually do. When we were lunging he was really well behaved on one leg where he's slightly stiffer but on his better side where he's a lot freer in his movements he gets little bolshy. He wasn't very good at listening to my voice commands and decided he didn't want to walk and slow down when asked and decided that he was going to turn unannounced instead of when asked to. He was an absolute Angel in the yard however and when I had him in his Dually on the way back to the field he was an absolute gem. (I have him on a Dually headcollar when I'm leading him on the road because he spooks and spins and its easier to control him - plus his owner gets bit nervous having him on a normal headcollar because he can have a very strong pull and she doesnt want him to spook and end up hurting her again)
Went to pick up Tom's new saddle today! Hopefully it fits! I walked into to the tent at the saddler stall and omg the smell was amazing. Mum has made me keep the saddle in the house bc she's missed the smell of a saddle
I need more equine blogs to follow!
Pls reblog if you are a mainly equestrian based blog!
Follows will come from @french-my-mistake
They're so gorgeous it hurts. Tom is such a hairy boy, you could almost plait his ear hairs if you could get him to stand for long enough. We went over to the field last night and he'd managed to run his fly veil off into a tree that neither me or Em could reach so this morning is going to be spent tree climbing to rescue Tommys veil...

The pons look so gorgeous!
Had a lush afternoon with Tom and Mogs the other day. Mogs went out for a hack and me and Tom stayed in the yard and did some groundwork to stretch him out a lil because he's getting hella stiff with his arthritis.
I'm picking up a new saddle for him to try tomorrow! It's a synthetic one so it should be lighter than his western and English saddles and then hopefully he should be able to hack out with Mogs and get him a bit fitter. He's only having it for a test run atm and we don't even know if it will fit him - it's supposedly a cob size but Tommy is wider than your average cob.
My lesson on Wednesday went well. I'm riding Tonto who is a 16.2hh Cob and he doesn't feel any bigger than Tom when I'm on him but omg the ground is so far away on the dismount! I'm going to have lessons twice a week and then hopefully I should be able to get Tom out on the road soon *fingers crossed!*
He wanted a snack while he was waiting to be hosed off
So Tommy shares a field with Morganna who is my boss' daughters horse, and she's a rescue horse who has major issues trusting people and won't let most people anywhere near her. I was looking after both horses while everyone was away at a wedding this weekend and they pretty much said "you won't get anywhere near her so just check she's not lame, and give Tom some cuddles and treats" and this is what happened... I left and cried I was so chuffed
So my riding lesson at the yard was amazing... it felt so odd being on a 16hh horse compared to lil Tommy but my trainer reckons there's a group lesson on a Friday evening that I could join!
In other news I got sunstroke and vomited all over the yard when I went to see Tommy yesterday evening... He was adorably concerned about me though even if I almost puked all over him
So I went over to check on Tommy and Mogs in the field after I finished my shift this morning to find that Tommy has been playing in his troph and managed to remove the cap on the mains waterline meaning that he's flooded part of the field and now the gate won't open bc it's sunk into the mud...
He's an absolute horror

He pulled on his lead and broke Sally's finger... He doesn't seem that bothered about the trouble he's causing
So Tommy spooked at one of the lorries that went past the paddock the other day and has broken his bridle so I can't ride him at the moment. We have a western bridle but the bit we have for it is way too harsh and reminds him of his driving bit which freaks him out too much and we don't want him to revert back to how he was when he first came to us.
But my first (in a very long time) lesson has been booked for Tuesday! I'm so excited to get back into English riding again!
