Yeah they are usually expensive. I managed to get my white one for $75 and the rug for $400 but I met up with people locally. I just stalk local ads for people selling cheap. It did take awhile for one to pop up though.

I been looking for one for my birthday… :( I can’t find them cheap enough.

@araviinn Look on taxidermy.net :) a lot of people sell pelts on there for much cheaper than hide and fur (which are extremely overpriced and imo not worth the money). An average mountable or rug wolf will probably be $600-700, but you could probably snag a vintage or wall hanger pelt for less than that!

@underthehedge ??? literally that’s how they naturally stand have you ever seen a dog with good angles ??? you can teach a dog to lean into their front to extend the back too ??? and the dog has a good equal body and obviously has good reach with how well it’s balanced. some dogs square stack, some three point stack, and some have an extended back leg stack. this dog is a fantastic representation of the breed standard (which surprise! means it conforms to the structure the dog needs in order to perform its purpose). also that photo is not even a mini schnauzer?? it’s like an affenpinscher mongrel before schnauzers even became standardized. plus the health issues noted aren’t all extremely common and you can literally health test a dog and choose dogs that don’t carry the possibility for adverse conditions?? they’re all issues mutts have too?? a health tested purebred coming from health tested lines is always going to have a chance at better health than a mutt from unknown lineage?? like hey look at this dog all of its recent ancestors are disease free and health tested and then like hey look at this mutt we dunno what its recent ancestors were or had in terms of conditions. also you’re overestimating how related purebreds are. literally you can test the coi (coifficient of inbreeding) and choose dogs less related?? most dogs have a coi that’s less than 20% and tbh the average is like 5% and dogs over 20% shouldn’t be bred bc there’s better dogs out there for that. also natural in the dog world means not cropped or docked and sometimes (very few ppl use it mostly they use unaltered or intact) not neutered/spayed. why do ppl with no idea how dogs work try to act like they’re gods for not buying a show dog lmaoooo

I just wanted to talk about this more. I was waiting in front of a clinic with a lady with an over done GSD and a breeder with a merle English bull dog. To be clear, I like show GSD’s. But this dog had a droopy unclean face, long coat, roach back, like ROACH back, and was cow hocked. Ew. The bulldog breeder was going off about the beauty of his puppy. Like the color and nothing else. Cus, let’s be real, that dog had nothing else going for it. So the GSD lady goes in about how they should want health and temperament instead of color. And I’m like hell yeah!(in my head). Then I’m like, wait a minute, your dog is almost as nasty and just as far from the breed standard as the bulldog. Why are talking like that. If either of you people showed up to even a UKC show you would be excused from the ring. It was just a crazy conversation to watch. I really wish I had Roman there just to stand and look pretty so there might have a chance to realize what an uncrippled quality dog looked like for a minute while they jerked themselves off on their own ugly ass dogs.

@throneprince the reason it’s so harsh is because you can’t prove you found the feather naturally instead of having poached the animal for it. even if you record the location it was found and took a photo before it was picked up, it is still easy to fabricate that with an illegally taken animal. a poacher could just claim they “found the feathers” when really they killed it and disposed of or distributed the other bits. the $15k is on the maximum side of a sentence for extremely endangered birds, and normally isn’t used for single feathers. if we just let people claim they picked up some feathers, we’d have the entire feather hat problem again. “just one person” leads to two people, and then three, and four, and then there are thousands of people making the desire for illegal feathers a thing again and poachers take advantage of that new interest.

My service dog, Gus, loves people. It is important that people continue not to pet him while he is working because he will very quickly begin to expect pets from everyone he encounters. His attention is then on everyone else and not on me where it needs to be. He is still young so I expect this to improve but I try really hard to enforce our no petting rule. So if a service dog handler speaks sharply to you if you try and pet their dog without asking, do not be surprised. Many times their dog is their first priority. Not your feelings.

@foxipaw lmao that’s not even tea that’s just being uneducated lmao like my purebred dog from a responsible breeder (read: health tests, intends to better the breed with every litter, has strict ownership rules via legally binding contracts, requires spay/neuter unless fore breeding or show, and has a take back clause for every dog sold if you can’t take care of it anymore) isn’t taking a home from a shelter dog bc guess what? my home was never for that shelter dog. i want a specific dog, a dog that has solid nerves, perfect drive, proven parents and grandparents doing the things i want to do with my dog. the chances of me finding this in a dog at a shelter is slim, whereas if i go to a responsible breeder i am almost sure to get what i want. i want a dog with health records dating back generations to better make sure my dog will be as healthy as possible. shelter dogs don’t have that, they’re a grab bag. if i’m going to spend the next decade with an animal that depends completely on me, then i’m sure as hell going to make sure i set myself up for good things in the long term. i can see that a specific line produces dogs that live healthy, long lives consistently when i go to a breeder. when i go to a shelter and get a dog, i don’t know jack diddly about how long its parents lived, or how long its grandparents lived, or whether or not dogs in its recent ancestry developed hip dysplasia or genetic aggression or thyroid issues. and hun, if i’m spending $2k on a dog, i’m sure as hell not gonna let it run willy nilly. maybe i could go get a dog for $200 at the shelter, and then potentially spend more than quadruple the adoption price in vet bills, but i could also spend the hefty sum for a dog who’s genetically set up to be healthy and spend minimal on vet visits. purebred dogs exist because there was a need for an animal that could perform a certain job, there was a need for predictable traits. shelter dogs exist because of uneducated people owning dogs when they shouldn’t. also, spay/neutering a dog before 18 months of age increases their risk of cancer, hip/elbow dysplasia, acl tears, and thyroid problems. it’s proven that allowing a dog to keep its largest hormone producing organs is healthier for the dog. sorry, but my dog’s still got his balls and he hasn’t ever gotten out and produced oopsie litters ;)
