I work at a chain pet store.

A guy comes up to the register with a few aquatic plants and a bag with some gold fish and rosy minnows. The bag looks like it has no air trapped inside and is deflated as fuck— something that not even the novices on the job would do when bagging fish for people.

I ask if he got help with getting those fish and he said that there was nobody in the aquatics department SO HE GOT THE FISH AND PLANTS HIMSELF-???!?????? What. The entitlement is insane and he’s not the only one who has at least attempted to self-serve some pet fish. I AM GOING TO SCREAM—

(He does have a pond tho so ig that’s nice for the fish)

How do I have a birthday celebration for my fish babies?

I’d make them all share a birthday.

It feels wrong only having a birthday celebration for my other pets, like my cat and my dog. But, I’m not sure how to celebrate my fishes birthdays.

And no, I’m not an idiot, I know these guys aren’t smart enough to understand what’s happening but I am and I would feel happier to celebrate my fish one day a year.

Any ideas on how to celebrate their birthday(s)?

I'm being sooooo indecisive about what fish I want to get to replace my betta as a centerpiece fish in my community tank. On one hand, I love the look of honey gouramis, they remind me of my old dwarf gourami Bluefinschmirtz that I had when I was a kid (my mom had a 40 gallon and she used to let us pick out what fish to get) so there's a huge nostalgia appeal there. On the other hand, I really like the more streamlined look and bright colors with sparkling gouramis, plus their croaking is adorable. I'm not under any pressure to pick now or anything, money's a little tight right now and I want to redo some of the hardscape before I add any animals, but I'm a little frustrated with myself
