I wonder if Lady Cormoray just makes a habit of going around touching magical artefacts, because the confidence with which she went for Olbalad’s coffin kind of suggests that she didn’t think anything would happen to her, which… She’s trying to take over the Archanade, so presumably she’s seen the folks who work there. You know, the ones who deal with artefacts on the daily, and also have horrible scars and body parts missing, despite being professionals with actual qualifications for that job. I’m also pretty sure Bolaire had warned her not to touch anything when he was giving her a tour, and had also told her about the type of workplace accident the museum is pretty much known for.
Assuming she’s at least somewhat interested in keeping herself alive and in one piece, opening a box after what, a Detect Magic, (which I think Murray and Bolaire might have also done in Ep 2 and it had told them very little), is kind of not a smart move, unless one has reason to believe that nothing bad would happen to them because they are, in fact, a very powerful noblewoman.
Shay’s Blade alone isn’t a good basis for comparison because it is, specifically, a deeply non-magical magical artefact, so the fact that you touch it and nothing bad happens should not lead you to conclude that this is always the case.
Lady Amariya is not stupid, she is canonically a very smart person, so the only reasonable explaination is that she just touches unidentified magic items wherever she goes, because clearly being a Lady of a Sundered House means you’re just so much better than the archivists and curators and whatnot that you might as well have immunity to such mundane things as bodily harm.
Really, between her, Primus “building a celestial in three easy steps with nothing but pantry staples” Tachonis and whatever the Halovars are up to with their demon-y business and basement angel blood exports, it’s kind of a miracle the Sundered Houses haven’t gone extinct out of pure hubris.
