A gay Bechdel test? Well, that is the Bechdel test. Although it has become a test to measure the lack of representation of women in movies & media in general, it has slightly different origins.

In this comic by Alison Bechdel, it was supposed to highlight how lesbian representation was lacking, so lacking women didn’t even talk to each other in movies….unless it was about a man.

I would like to acknowledge that Bechdel has said that she is ok with the more general feminist use of this term. (It was actually created by her friend Liz Wallace, according to Bechdel.) But I think it is important to remember the origins of this rule.
