There are so many reasons a person may choose not to come out and there is no reason a person would owe the public or a stranger that information. Certainly it's not owed simply because someone is famous.

It also goes without saying that bioessentialism inherently can’t be trans inclusive no matter how hard you try. “All men including trans men—” probably not. “This is only a woman’s issue—” is it really? “Afabs only—” why? “All trans men are like—” what? what are they like? finish the sentence i dare you.

“But Rue, where will these kids stay? Do you want them on the streets?”

of course not. In an ideal world, a kids would have multiple adults other than their parents they could look to for care, but I recognize that that will never be a reality for every single child. So: youth shelters, if they have nowhere else to go. There should be clean, warm shelters where anyone under 18 can stay for as long as they need, no questions asked. (And of course shelters that aren’t just for kids, but we’re talking about youth rights right now)

“But Rue,” I hear you say, “what if some moody teenager runs away after an argument?”

First of all, I’d rather a thousand moody teenagers run away than one abused child be trapped. Second, so what if one does? A kid needs time away from their parents, so they leave. The vast majority of them will get some time to cool down and then go back home, and if they don’t want to go back, period? Then nine times out of ten, they have a good reason. (Because yes, as hard as it is for you to believe, kids are humans who have common sense.)

“Okay, but what about the one time out of ten the kid doesn’t have a good reason?”

no this too. i do feel there's this. expectation. that all nonbinary people will be rather apathetic about their genders, that the "good" nonbinary people (who isn't "crazy" and "dramatic" and "trying so hard to be woke") don't really care about what pronouns or nouns you use, will be binarize themselves in whatever way is easiest for the binary people & system around them, will be largely unobtrusive about their gender unless it can be a funny joke for binary people (even "inclusive" ones).

i think if i had 2 describe my identity i would describe it as being agender thru the lense of being a boy or being a boy but in a way that's gendered more softly 2 the point its like not having a gender

like i am a boy and i am agender but ppl view those as contradictory and so i usually don't rly say anything bc i feel like most ppl wouldn't get it and it does make me feel weird sometimes bc pushing myself 2 present as a binary man also feels inaccurate and uncomfortable, not as much as if some1 genders me as a woman but it still feels a lil weird

1. if you get the “answer my call” text, NEVER ANSWER THE CALL. 

They are calling you because they want to have the conversation verbally, and be able to lie later about what they said or didn’t say. Force them to continue via text or email- force them to continue the conversation in writing or not at all. 

2. “Lack of 2 weeks notice is unprofessional!” or the other version, “Not providing notice is illegal!”

No it isn’t. Neither is true. 

And in the US, all states except Montana are “at will” employment (though you may hear an employer refer to it as “right to work” to make it sound better, it’s the same thing). Sure, at-will employment means they can fire you without cause, BUT! It also means that you are not legally required to give a reason for quitting, or to give notice of any kind. 

Is it polite to give notice when you can? Sure. Do bosses expect it? Absolutely. But that does not make you legally required to provide it. 

3. The only thing I would change in the worker’s interaction here was their response when initially asked to come in. 

Employee: “Hey Mark. Sorry I’m unable to cover the shift tonight because I’m studying for my exam tomorrow.” 

Don’t give a reason for your lack of availability. It may be tempting to. You may feel rude if you don’t. 

DON’T DO IT.

You do not owe your boss any information about what you do off the clock, and any reason you give will only ever be used against you. 

Boss: “Hey I need you to cover Jasper’s shift tonight.”

Employee: “Sorry, I’m not available.”

And leave it at that. 

Do not elaborate. 

Do not offer additional information. 

When you boss asks you to elaborate, because they will, be polite but firm. “With respect, that’s personal. I’m sorry, but I’m unavailable to cover this shift/work late/come in early/etc.”

Be a broken record- you’re unavailable. That’s the only information they need to know, and it’s the only information they have a LEGAL RIGHT to know. 

what i'm against is people being put on medication (esp. coerced/forced) without ever being told any of the side effects - as if the paper blanket you get with your medication bottle is a substitute for informed consent and patient education. i am also against people being lied to by their doctor about the efficacy and safety of their medication.

i need people to understand that there are many psychiatrists who are BEING PAID DIRECTLY BY THE DRUG MANUFACTURER to put people onto novel psych medications. they are PAID to use PATIENTS as ADVERTISEMENTS and EXPERIMENTS for the drug company.

and they can get really trigger happy with handing out those pamphlets and blister packs the drug company sends them. even when that medication is not safe with the patients conditions/other medications, or their condition isn't even diagnosed yet. this is something other doctors do too, but it's very common in psychiatry (and neurology).

this has ALL been something i have experienced myself as a "professional patient." most recently, i told my ex psychiatrist i was having constant flashbacks and she decided to put me on a novel antipsychotic for schizophrenia because she had a bunch of these pamphlets and was trying to get rid of them (she was going on about how she had "so many" and was starting to hand them out to patients).

when pressed about this by me or even my group therapist, she refused to explain why she put someone with DID and C-PTSD who was not having a psychotic episode, but rather a trauma episode, on a medication for schizophrenia. and then i was the one who was wrong by refusing to take it after i learned what it was - i didn't know when she prescribed it, and i was just desperate for relief.

i have been on meds since i was 14, and in therapy since i was 7. just because You or someone You know has had a good experience with psychiatry doesn't mean everyone has; You are just extremely lucky in that regard.

so couple of clarifications. comments are disabled as default for primary blogs that have their likes disabled. they are seemingly enabled for all other blogs that have replied to posts

genuinely tho i don't get y monogamy is seen as the default? not every1 is comfortable w narrowing their social circles when it comes 2 who they can and can't fuck or b w romantically 2 just 1 person and thats okay and i don't get how ppl think its more normal 2 treat monogamy as the default and not open relationships as the default, when monogamy is the 1 that would require some1 2 make major changes 2 their life and how they approach social situations, whereas w open relationships u don't gotta change everything abt ur life just bc u wanna hang out and hav fun 2gether w some1, sure some ppl want monogamy but i feel like it makes more sense imo 4 monogamy 2 b the 1 that needs 2 b specified and not the other way around like not every1 is comfortable w the idea that having a relationship w some1 needs 2 actually literally b life changing and thats okay and its okay if u don't wanna hav a relationship w some1 who doesn't want that bc that's smth thats important 2 u

if i hav 2 constantly specify im gay so that straight women leave me alone u can deal w specifying that ur monogamous so that the rest of us know 2 leave u alone and then u can find ur lil weirdo u can b yandere 4 yandere w or whatever it is u guys do
