So I got a second job. I let my current job know, my manager actually said, after asking how much this new part time would pay me "If they offer you full time you need to take it."
I told her I had orientation Monday and Tuesday, it would be most of the day however, because it was so close I would be coming in afterwards to clean up and close.
My coworker on Sundays was like whatever, and did what he could do so I know it was okay on Monday morning for the opening attendant that I work with Monday and Tuesday.
However, I come into nothing done, nothing stocked, everything a mess at five o'clock Monday after my orientation. The stock room of the hotel I work at closes at five on the dot. This woman I work with did absolutely nothing but fill the infused water and clocked out directly at four thirty.
I heard that she was gabbing with the girls at the front desk most of the day and milking an "injury" from a fall she had two weeks ago as an excuse not to do heavy work.
So, I close up as well as I can, I'm communicative with her and let her know what I was able to do and stock up and that was that.
Tuesdays orientation went very well, I'm excited about this second job and all is well. I check my phone during a five minute break and see that my manager from my shitty job had called. She basically said she was disappointed that I came in so late the day before -despite the discussion we had well before this orientation- and asked if I would be willing to come in earlier.
Basically asking me to walk out of my orientation.
Anyway, I ignore it, finish my orientation, get my certificate of completion and my arrow pin and I walk out with my new coworker after meeting with the director of the spa I will be working at. I am hyped, excited and looking forward to Thursday which is my first day of training.
So I get to work right after that. The Con*ad where I will be working is sixteen minutes from the Sw*n and Dol*hin spa I work at, so it wasn't too hard. I get there and I am met with disappointment. Again, everything was discussed with my old manager but she literally says she doesn't know if they can accommodate my coming in at 130 on Sundays and Mondays because they need me the most between the hours of 11-2.
When I mentioned that we had discussed it she said that she spoke with Corporate, one of them, and that he said I should prioritize my current position over this new one.
I told her to her face that I am. I am willing to come in on Sundays and Mondays anyway, working from 1:30 to close those two days straight after working my new job which starts at 5AM and ends at 1PM all because I know that need me and that NO ONE WOULD DREAM OF APPLYING TO WORK AT THIS SPA BECAUSE, DESPITE THEIR CLAIMS AT BEING LUXRY, THEY WANT TO PAY THE HOURLY WORKERS $15-16 A MOTHER FUCKING HOUR.
I shit you guys not. She said I should prioritize the job that under pays, expected 100% and DEMOTED ME TO PART TIME WITHOUT TELLING ME over a better paying job STARTING AT $20 for the same position I currently work, but has with ample opportunities and benefits that my current position does not have.
And my fellow female attendant was behind it. There is favoritism at my current spa, the manager coddles the ones she likes most and lies and bullies the ones she doesn't. She lies and undermines everyone, and I could tell my fellow female attendant was pissed that she had to actually do her job because, when we work together two days a week I get everything stocked and cleaned up and she hardly lifts a finger.
There's a reason corporate said that they cannot afford to lose me and they're about to with all of this bullshit.
I e-mailed a gentleman from corporate that had been coming around the spa since our regional manager retired. He was incredibly angry about all of this because my manager said she spoke to him and said that he was the one who said I ought to prioritize my current position and that I could not be accommodated.
Which turned out to be a massive lie, as he said, and that there would be a meeting, because they have lost over ten hourly employees due to this level of harassment. He congratulated me on my new job and asked for my next day off from both jobs next week because he wants me at this, now going to be led by corporate and HR, meeting with my manager and my fellow attendant.
And guess what? I was accommodated. He said as much, he would take care of it and thanked me for keeping my original days because they do need a closer.
"I don't see the difference between coming in at eleven o'clock or one thirty. This is why we have two attendants on shift."
So this is what's going on. New job, part time at the moment pays well, has great benefits and thrives in a healthy environment and shitty old job where management and toxic coworker are going to, very possibly, be let go.
Like, who would choose to be underpaid and over worked over a better job with better pay?
And instead of quitting, because I could afford to quit my current job with this second part time, I decided to stay because they do need a closer and I like some of my coworkers. Like...really?
