*producer about to make one of the worst seasons of television ever put to screen* surely writing purely in reaction to what the fans are saying on twitter will work out great for us this time
awesome awesome interview with Emily Wilson
TVC vampires exist beyond monogamy, sorry. It's just as essential as the queerness. Keep your "one true love bullshit" away from the vampire chronicles, please and thank you. Their emotions are heightened and they feel very deeply for one another. They're ravenous for connection and one love doesn't negate the other. The series is full of overlapping attachments. I'm baffled by how this season refuses to flesh out and spend proper time on developing relationships that aren't "endgame" (which ive always thought was a stupid term when talking about a series thats iconic for its clearly panromantic and polyamorous charactersš).
The dynamics in TVC are a rich interwoven web. If you fuck up adapting one, its going to effect the others. Properly adapting Lesmand makes Loumand and Loustat even juicer. Understanding the nuances of Marimand makes Devil's Minion hit harder.
This isnt Twilight
ALSO ODYSSEUS LITERALLY JUST GOES TO TROY HE JUST GOESSSSSSSS they donāt even TRY to put baby telemachus in the paper shredder he just dips without a fuss. they change odysseus hanging the maids to penelope kicking melantho out for girlboss reasons and they TOOK AWAY MY BAG OF WIND #mybagofwind they also took away the dipshit that falls off of circeās roof and dies. deeply shallow meaningless movie.

Will not get over how in order for us to find out Armand and Daniel had a significant encounter in the 70s we had multiple episodes of Daniel being haunted by flashes of memory + investigative work to retrieve records of that encounter + the reveal being intertwined with the story's main theme of memory unreliability. But something as crucial as Armand being obsessed and in love(!!) with Daniel for decades is revealed to us through... exposition. No subtlety, no build up, no letting the tale seduce me, no correlation with the current themes of the story.
to whoever said DM this season felt like the writers going āhere damnā
My constructive criticism is : start over.
one of iwtv's key narrative themes was "love and abuse can coexist in the same relationship" but tvl has seemingly replaced that with "love redeems abuse"- instead of engaging with the weight of louis as a survivor of antiblack violence/gaslighting/psychological abuse or engaging with the weight of lestat as a survivor of incestuous sexual/emotional abuse, the narrative condemns loumand and gabistat bc armand and gabriella didn't truly love their victims. the show has this really weird and problematic idea that as long as there's love in a relationship, that can make up for all kinds of harm and violence...but if there's a lack of love that's the breaking point. and i just find that really weak as a theme and disconnected from the emotional reality of abuse survivors- it also feels like a cop-out for the writers to avoid confronting the nature of the abuse of either fan favorite (armand) or author's darling (gabriella) characters.
textually engaging with the fact that armand is a lyncher and the violence he does to louis is often directly pulled from the violence done to black people under enslavement and segregation would mean the nonblack writers would have to textually engage with blackness as a central theme and question their own impulses like why the show disproportionately and voyeuristically depicts the brutalization of black bodies- textually engaging with the fact that gabriella has been raping her own son for over 200 years would mean the misogynistic writers would have to engage with the subject of sexual abuse and assault beyond "louis the pimp" and question their own impulses like why so many of gabriella's scenes with lestat are played for taboo titillation or "comic relief". it's a lot easier to sidestep all of that and go "oh these relationships were fucked up and doomed bc there's no real love there".
and this reductive and anti-survivor take on "love conquers all" even reflects in how the writers approach relationships that aren't meant to be narrative dead-ends. the lack of care in how they wrote loustat this season makes a lot of sense when you realize the writers think they can depict lestat doing and saying all kinds of shit to louis and it doesn't matter, they don't have to show lestat expressing true contrition or growth bc they love each other (or so we're told) abuse doesn't matter if there's love ok
Gwayne being confronted with the fact that Criston truly, honestly wants to die, wants them all to die. The stranger offers us rest. To never be a servant again, but remembered in song for centuries. Not as what he is - a man broken and destroyed by the very war he craved - but as a knight.
And that line "a song [...] that even Queen Alicent might hear" and at most the hint of a reaction, of a sneerful "oh, really?" on Gwayne's face. When their first interaction was Gwayne trying to intimidate Criston in the good old patriarchal "don't look at my sister" fashion. But Gwayne has finally realised that Criston is beyond such patriarchal and knightly notions of honour. You don't have to pretend now, because you just realised that he's already dead and he wants you to be dead as well. And you can dream of Oldtown all you want, but the only way out he offers you is through the grave. To become A Feast For Crows.
And then Gwayne just leaves. #breakupwiththatfucker

Hi Lovelies!! Iāve decided to start a new blog @blueswatches
After the TVL finale (which TRUST I have opinions on) and a summer juggling TVL, HOTD, the World Cup, and Love Island UK & USA, theres a lot to discuss! I just feel like the vibe Iāve got going for this blog isnāt representative of all my interests.
Going forward @blues-4thedeathofheaven is going to be more fiber arts, classics, art, book quotes, and my own work (when it occurs to me to post it!). @blueswatches is going to be more analysis, reviews and whateverās got my interest! If youāre here for DM Iām sure itāll crossover into both because they are my faves but itāll mostly be on the new blog!
Thanks for all the support!!
