COMES TUMBLING IN HAPPY YURI DAY

I've been creating oc's lately since art fight is coming up (an online art exchange event if you haven't heard of it) and 2 of my 6 main ones are Black (Pine and Pom, all are named after random fruits). All of my oc's are disabled, and Pom has schizophrenia and autism while Pine has Down Syndrome with mild intellectual disability. While I realize this isn't inherently a problem (obviously there are Black people who have these disabilities) my concern is that schizophrenia and intellectual disability specifically might come off with a certain vibe since there are stereotypes of Black people being both "insane/psychotic" and "dumb" (very ableistly). While I would never write them in a way that would imply this about either of my characters, nor in a way that would attribute their ability levels to their race, there really isn't any writing to go alongside them, so I just wanted to ask if it naturally stands out to you as something you think should be changed/avoided? I do have another non-Black character with a psychotic disorder, although no others with intellectual disability. Thanks for reading and sorry for the long ask!

Their descriptions if it helps (if unnecessary you don't need to read them as I realize this ask is getting long):

Pom is a 21-year-old Black American who has schizophrenia, autism, social anxiety, and nearsightedness. She uses she/they pronouns and lives in a high-rise city apartment with her girlfriend Cran. Their major in college is environmental science. She is friends with Apple after meeting him in the college library, acquaintances with Mango and Ras, and was childhood best friends with Pine, although the two lost connection in middle and high school and met again in the college library. They met Cran in a gen ed writing class they took with her in college and over the semester the two gradually fell in love. Pom is shy around strangers, however is a very loud and bright person in groups of friends, especially when talking about their special interests (loves collecting and sorting plants in the apartment as well as yarn for their crocheting). Their style ranges from androgynous to somewhat feminine, and they love greens. She crochets much of her clothing herself.

Pine is a 22-year-old Black American with Down Syndrome, mild intellectual disability, strabismus (right eye points inwards), and depression. Pine is currently going to the same college as Cran, Pom, and Apple for cosmetology. Pine is Mango's girlfriend, is friends with Pom and Apple, and is acquainted with Cran and Ras. Pine was friends with Pom when they were children, however Pine moved away and only met Pom again in college. Pine met Mango since Mango lives in the college town and they had a cute saga of continuing to run into each other at their frequented places before forming a relationship. She met Apple in the same place that Pom did: the library. Pine has done modeling work and really takes pride in her goth style. She is in general a rather quiet person, although she manages to take notice of everything and doesn't let anyone step on her or those she loves.

I don't quite get what you mean by "there really isn't any writing to go alongside them". Do you mean that all that description isn't part of the writing 😅 is this not for a story?

Please have a moment of silence for the people who were killed instead of freed when news of emancipation finally reached the furthest corners of the american south.

have another moment for the ledgers, catalogs, and records that were burned and the homes that were destroyed to hide the presence of very much alive and still enslaved people on dozens of plantations and homesteads across the south for decades after emancipation.

and have a third moment for those who were hunted and killed while fleeing the south to find safety across the border, overseas, in the north and to the west.

black people. light a candle, write a note to those who have passed telling them what you have achieved in spite of the racist and intolerant conditions of this world, feel the warmth of the flame under your hand, say a prayer of rememberance if you are religious, place the note under the candle, and then blow it out.

if you have children, sit them down and tell them anything you know about the life of oldest black person you've ever met. it doesn't have to be your own family. tell them what you know about what life was like for us in the days, years, decades after emancipation. if you don't know much, look it up and learn about it together.
