Hello again! This post is dedicated to all of those lovely (you guessed it) Coconut Retrievers out there. Now this isn’t the first time that I’ve made a post talking about Coconut Retrieves. If you want more specifics about these wonderful mutts you can find it here. However, the purpose of this post is to showcase the incredible variety of the breed.
Let me begin by saying that there is a certain image that comes to mind when you talk about Coconut Retrievers. These dogs are usually various shades of tan and brown, are medium-sized, and often favor Shepards and Terriers. Below is a picture of my own Coconut Retriever Soca, who you can see fits this image pretty well.

However, after you finish reading this post, you’ll realize that Coconut Retrievers are not limited to any one specific size or “look,” but come in many flavors (all served with an unavoidable side of sand.)
Lucia and Maho who are definitely getting baths later.
To the left we have Maho and her little sister, Lucia. See what I mean about the sand? They don’t have the same parents, but they sure do look like two peas (coconuts?) in a pod to me. Maho’s mom and dad were just fostering Lucia, but before they knew it she had become a permanent member of the family!

This photogenic pup to the right is Penny. She became a foster through SXM Paws when she was only five weeks old after being abandoned with her mom and litter mates. Sadly, Penny’s mom didn’t make it, but good news was right around the corner. Penny’s new mom, Allison, decided to foster the tiny pup until it became clear that she couldn’t give Penny up to anyone else. They are now best friends for life, through med school and beyond.
The last Coconut retriever I’m showcasing in this post is a sweet little pup named Taffy. I had the pleasure of helping to puppy sit Taffy at a recent event with SXM Paws.
Taffy looking her cutest in hopes of getting adopted.
Taffy was one of three puppies looking for their forever homes on the day of the event, and I am happy to report that Taffy has since been adopted! SXM Paws is an organization that works tirelessly to help animals in need on the island of Sint Maarten/ St. Martin. If you would like to adopt an animal or donate please contact them for more information on how you can help.
The dogs in this post are just a small sampling of the many faces of the Coconut Retriever. This eclectic breed comes in all shapes and sizes, colors and personalities. However, I can say from experience that you could not ask for a more loyal, grateful, companion than can be found in the Coconut Retriever.
If you want to see more, SXM Paws’ website is a great place to see photos of dozens of different Coconut Retrievers.
If you have adopted or are fostering a Coconut Retriever of your own, please feel free to comment and share your own photos or story below!
