Piping fuckin hot take incoming but it doesn’t matter if fat people are healthy. Not everyone has to be a paragon of fuckin health to be treated like a person.
The holidays can be hard for some people, so reach out to your friends, check up on them or just send them a cute message. And for all those of you who are struggling this holiday season, I love you and I’m so proud of you. You’re going to make it through.

Honestly shoutout to The Social Network for giving us the line “you’re going to go through life thinking that girls don’t like you because you’re a nerd. And I want you to know, from the bottom of my heart, that that won’t be true. It’ll be because you’re an asshole” because if that doesn’t epitomize women’s feelings for entitled male nerds I don’t know what does

I love this show
This cracks me up. He is so embarrassed still about the music thing. The homophobia is THEIR problem.
Things to Normalize in Disability Lit
- Inter-disability couples
- Multiple people with the same disability presenting in different ways
- Disabled people who do not have a specific diagnosis
- People with multiple disabilities
- People whose mobility support needs change from day to day or depending on activity
- People who don’t hate being disabled
- People with progressive conditions shown adapting rather than played for tragedy
- Disabled people who are not “good” or “innocent” (but not villains either!)
- Disabled people with multiple marginalized identities, rather than always being white middle-class cishet people who happen to be disabled
- Groups of friends with more than one disabled person
Feel free to add!
The use of plastic straws by disabled people became a moral detriment suitable for public shaming before lack of accessibility became a moral detriment suitable for public shaming.
My disabled YouTuber friend now gets harassed when she uses a plastic bending straw (an accessibility tool, something she NEEDS in order to drink, no alternative currently works) in her videos.
Reminder right here: no matter how someone looks, their disability will not always be apparent to you.
But when my disabled friend is denied emergency evacuation plans out of a building because the elevators get shut off and she uses a wheelchair, does the building owner get shamed or harassed? No.
Those are the power dynamics at play here.
Imagine if ableds cared about accessibility as much as they care about banning plastic straws.
Imagine if people were as willing to take responsibility as they are willing to place blame.
Or, in more detail: imagine if people were as willing to take collective responsibility for a functional society as they are willing to place individual blame for a dysfunctional society.
I, with both cerebral palsy and autistic dyspraxia, will fight to keep my straws, and the fight to ban them while giving us irritating alternatives that place the onus on us is still among the most ridiculous things in disabilities history. Which is really really saying a lot.
The straw ban is perhaps the single most glaringly obvious and ridiculous example of how devalued disabled lives are. It literally will not make one iotas difference to pollution or climate change to do so. But it will allow a bunch of foolish people to delude themselves into thinking they’ve done something, and that’s the key. They know the real problem is too big, so they’ll take their tiny fake victory and seize upon it because it’s all they’ve managed to get. And that false sense of achievement and traction is just a thousand times more important than reality, or disabled lives. Because it makes them feel better.

I am a full grown adult. My wheelchair does not turn me back into a child.
If you see me out and about by myself, I (gasp) got there all by myself. I will be getting home all by myself, too. I don’t need your help. Leave me alone.
Your attempts to “help” me when I do not need help are 100% about you and 0% about me. If I needed help, I would ask for it. Also, I do not owe you any personal information and I am not here to make you feel better about yourself. In fact, my life has nothing to do with you and is none of your business.
Stop infantalizing and harassing disabled people 2k18.
This.
I had a train driver start calling me “buddy” earlier this week, before forcefully (not aggressively, but in a tone that made me feel very unsafe) saying “you’re coming with me”.
That wasn’t even my train.
Even if your intentions are good, infantilising and otherwise ignoring consent when it comes to disabled people, especially mobility aid users, is neither okay, nor welcome, nor safe. We’re still full people, and those of us who can go places ourselves will go places ourselves, and those of us who cannot won’t—so don’t try and force yourselves upon us.
I can’t believe we have to keep saying this.
