“It seems like a stupid thing to do,” she couldn’t help but say. Although that was really not her problem. With a shake of her head, she glanced at the rain. He sounded awfully sincere that she could afford to accept this one time right? “If.. I do accept your gift, will I have your word on it?” She had half a mind to draft up a contract to ensure that he wouldn’t use this against her. 

Billy shrugs his shoulders since MAYBE it wasn’t wise of him to break reality for a stranger, but he believes in good deeds. “I’ve done worse things, and this feels like something nice. I give you my word that I won’t use this against you in any way. The umbrella is yours.”

“You don’t know me.” Her eyes narrowed slightly. “Why would you give me a… gift?” It must have taken some kind of effort for him to create an umbrella out of nothing, and that was not something people just gave away for nothing. Especially not to a stranger. 

“It’s a nice thing to do?” Billy says as the effort wasn’t much in creating an umbrella. He knows rewriting the universe for such mundane things is probably a waste of his talents, but he prefers it that way. He doesn’t want to mess with the multiverse.

Before she could take the offered umbrella, her hand stilled above it. People always wanted something in return, even if it’s not of monetary value. Them saying that it was ‘free of charge’ was an even bigger admission. “And what would you like in return then?” She would not accept the umbrella until she knew the terms.

“I don’t need anything, I mean that you can keep it.” Billy had just rewritten part of the universe to make an extra umbrella appear — and he doesn’t need two so he’d rather that she kept it. “I don’t need any money or you to do anything for me for it. It’s A GIFT.”

Two-thirty. Tessa was out the door, but paused just underneath the awning. Rain. She sighed and looked up to the darkened sky. Her hand extended outwards to feel how bad the damage could be and in her head, she calculated the chances that it won’t get worse if she left now. “Of all the days..” she grumbled, mostly to herself. She then turned to the first person she saw. “Excuse me. Do you have an extra umbrella? I need to borrow one.”

Billy stops in place, balancing the umbrella with one hand as he uses his free one to create one out of NOTHING. He hands it over after the glow disappears from around it. “Here — free of charge.” He doesn’t do that often, but the mutant can tell that she really needs it. He knows how unfortunate it would be not to have one.

alright. so. here’s his checklist. 1. knowing english. passable. barely. 2. being social. nonexistent. 3. knowing where he’s going? god if he knew. he’s from seoul. this place is all … well, not metropolitan. he’s heard about new york, every rookie dreams of performing there, but … he’s not a trainee anymore, he’s just… a mutant. at a school. god, he hates the word mutant. makes him, and others, seem … like monsters, or something. maybe to most humans, they are.

he sighs, a small frown on his lips. he misses home, misses blending into the crowd of normal people rather than … being exposed and noticed. well. noticed in the wrong way. so he sits on a bench on the street, close to night time, playing with the edge of his phone case.

Billy had spent a late day out working, but eventually the library closes so he had to leave. He stops by a bench unsure what the time had been. The mutant plops down on the curb of he street, putting his bag down next to him. He doesn’t know what he’s waiting for,  considering he could just portal home — but he wanted to just breathe in the fresh air for another minute. 

Natasha watched the other; they must be joking. Surely they’re joking around no one would actually do something so silly as well as dangerous on school grounds, let alone out in the open. “Are you serious right now? What do you think you are doing?” 

“wanna talk about it?” he asked, all humour leaving his tone and worry replacing it. “dinner would be great if you’re paying?”

“I’ll pay of course. What are we feeling like today?” Billy doesn’t even know how to make sense of his head really. “I just wonder what my purpose is sometimes. It’s nothing really.”

“oh, it’s no fun making fun of you if you’re so self-depreciating.” tommy grumbled, huffing at his twin. “how come you ain’t sleeping good? teddy not doing his job?” the silver-haired male raised a brow. “i can leave whenever, i’m doin’ over time ‘cause i’m bored, the boss said i can go whenever i’m done i just gotta tell someone. what’s up?”

“Very funny. I just have a lot on my mind lately is all. Teddy and I are good. I’m going to try not being self-depreciating, but it’s ME after all.” Billy shrugs his shoulders before he thinks of something. “You want to grab some dinner?”

tommy gave his twin a pearly smile, slinging a wash cloth over their shoulder as they took a sip of their own water. “i reckon they got the stench of your lameass and decided to run while they could.” he shrugged, tone playful as they leaned against the bar. “night’s…going. didn’t think i’d miss this place and here i am, huh? how are things with you, though?”

“I don’t blame them because I would run away from me too.” Billy admits as he places the glass down on the counter. “I’m okay as one can be. I haven’t been sleeping good lately, but hey — you’re here. I’m glad you are. How long do you work tonight? We should do something. I don’t know what yet.”

“don’t do this to me,” daniel practically begged, as he found himself tugging at the door of the locker, trying in vain to open it. he’d always struggled when it came to combination locks, no matter what he did, he could never get them open! “i just need to get my stuff,” he added, as if his pleading would magically get the locker to open. 

“if you’re not gonna buy any drinks, you better tip me.” he huffed, leaning against the bar. “this is gonna shock you, but i ain’t getting paid to stand ere and look pretty.”

Billy was just watching as his twin was talking to the stranger. There’s a glass in his own hand that he takes a sip of. “Scared them right off, Tommy. How’s the night going otherwise?”

“ not sure. i have a few psionic-based abilities but i actually WASN’T reading your mind when i asked you ! “ zoe gave a wide and innocent-like smile. “ sure , sure. i could go for a white mocha right now. “

❝ because, like, you’re the best… pseudo-nephew, like, ever ? ❞ it was really weird to think about. did it really count ? he doesn’t know. they’re existential questions. for matters of, like, bribery, he’s definitely saying pseudo-nephew. ❝ coffee sounds good. i’m always down for an iced mocha, dude. ❞

teddy had been up for at least an hour at this point, he always woke up early especially when it was a work out day. the blonde chuckled at the sight of billy yawning, knowing it wasn’t exactly his thing to be awake before the sun was out. “ - because, you love seeing me shirtless covered in sweat. “ the blonde teases before leaning down and pressing a soft peck on his boyfriends cheek. “ nope, no time for coffee but i can get you some pre-workout. “ 

Billy can’t believe that he was actually awake before the sun was up. What kind of punishment? He doesn’t mind soon as he sees Teddy though — always worth the early hours. “I really do love the sight.” He steps forward to close the distance and place a hand on his arm. Billy smiles at the kiss to his cheek. “I’ll pass, but thank you anyway, babe. Carry me?”
