hey idk if this is intentional or not but the links in the mobile timeline lead to the general tumblr tag instead of tags on blogs which means that in some cases you have to scroll through a bunch of junk posts if the tag is nkt specific enough. This also means that we don't see reblogs with those tags from previous timeline blogs
Welp. I have good news and bad news.
The bad news is that Tumblr is, to no one’s surprise, a flaming hot mess. Currently, if you link to a tag from a specific blog and a user tries to open that link on mobile, the Tumblr app will redirect them to the main tag page instead. Example: this should link to preath hugs on my blog. But it’s just going to link to the general “hug” tag if you click while on mobile.
Let’s hope that this is just a bug and not the latest in a string of extremely ass-backwards Tumblr team ideas. (But the fact that it happens on both Android and Apple apps makes me worry that it’s the latter.)
The good news is that many of the tags on the timeline are pretty specific, so a good number will only show results from previous timeline blogs. However, this isn’t the case for all of them, and it isn’t a great solution.
If you’re on mobile and desperately need to use the timeline as it was intended, currently the best workaround is to use your phone’s browser instead of the Tumblr app. Then just go to the regular timeline page and proceed down the rabbit hole, as desired. :)
