Okay oooone more Cha Cha Cha post. 'Cause have we talked about stuff about that song that I recognize that could never come through to an international audience?
He's from Vantaa. I grew up there in a different time, it's a working class area.
Finnish ballroom culture leans heavily on Latin American dances, and cha cha is one especially associated with fun and parties in a kind of an uncool way, like a conga line, which the act also references.
Finnish drinking culture is drinking too much. Finnish party culture is also drinking too much. You wanna have fun, get prepared for alcohol poisoning.
Finnish songs tend to be sad or angry. Ballroom songs are sometimes the exception, though they can be melancholy too. Finns are kind of stiff and keep their problems to themselves, and Finnish masculinity means showing anger and competitiveness and being funny and clever, but hiding gentleness or vulnerability or need or anything too queer. It's the opposite of Latin heat, it's Nordic chill.
The way to break this is through getting shitfaced. That's what the song is about. You have locked yourself up inside yourself, all your rage and your gentleness have been held in check, you can't take another minute of it, but you know now you can drink. And you drink until finally the rigidity releases its hold. You are free. You are gentle. You are happy. You're not afraid of this world anymore.
The ugliness of the costume, the kind of a comedic reference to Latin culture is not, like, a pisstake on Latin music, but a reference to the bland imitation of it in Finnish ballroom culture. He is mocking himself and his own awkwardness and the specific culture he comes from (I could even say specifically Vantaa), while addressing this experience of being locked inside yourself, needing to drink so it will be socially acceptable or possible for you to defy that which is expected of a Finnish man.
It's not cringe if you were plastered. And when you're plastered, you're brave enough to be cringe.
also!! The uncanny plastic smiles, expressions and hair of the background dancers is a potrayal of how people look dancing while drunk. They look silly in their party outfits and makeup in their drunken haze. And the dance moves are weird and awkward and kinda stiff as people in clubs usually don't really know how to dance and are just moving with the music and living in the moment, no matter how stupid they look. But who cares, they are having fun. It's crazy, it's party.
++ the boxing ring imagery? pub brawls are a world wide phenomena and finns are no different. Even our national book, the Seven Brothers, has a few major plot points that are caused by the brothers fighting while drunk.
While Cha Cha Cha isn't particularly an artistic masterpiece, it is clever and the set and the show are well thought through. It tells a story many can relate to. The cabability to make fun of himself and the drinking culture is such a fresh take on Eurovision.

Important to remember no matter what breed of dog you get ... You might want a particular breed for particular traits. But if you're getting a puppy you gotta just write off those first two years. You will not have the dog you want to end up with. You will have a baby dog. And all the terror that entails.
You'd think this would be common sense, but man have I seen so many people recently get puppies of particular breeds for specific reasons and get frustrated when the puppy isn't "low energy" or "super smart" or the "ugggh I want to do all these activities but I can't because it's too young." Like, listen you bought a Border Collie or a Shih Tzu or a Golden Retriever, and you're gonna get certain predictable breed traits ... Eventually. But right now you have Baby Dog. People expect too much of their puppies too quickly, whether it's simply good predictable behaviour, or certain activities like sports or even jogging and hiking. Write off those first 2 years and focus on your baby dog's development.
Songleikr - Ulvetime (āHour of the Wolfā)
I stumbled across this on YouTube, someone there called it āthe Awoo songā, and thatās excatly what it is. Have a little wolf song to start of your week!Ā
I just like the story behind this. On one hand, one piece of misinformation can easily be accepted as fact if it looks appealing enough. Raccoon skulls look more like what you would expect of an animal skull. Instead of the reality where wolf skulls are actually kind of ugly from the front. But this design is made unintentionally far greater because of this. These tattoos were all found under the #wolfskulltattoo tag on instagram
This is just true.

Food for thought: if you canāt have your farrier out to the barn during this time due to Covid-19, and youāre planning to skip a cycle, MAKE SURE youāve paid any outstanding invoices you have with your farrier, and consider pre-paying for your next trim or shoeing. Farriers are being hit HARD by this situation, & they are an essential part of our horsesā routine care and wellbeing.
The same goes for if your horse gets other routine therapy, like regular massage, bodywork, acupuncture, etc... anyone who travels to your stable regularly to provide important care for your horse.
This is a hard time for all of us, but we really need to support our horsesā care-providers during this time, so that they can make their bills and stay in business... Because we REALLY want them to still be there for our horses when this is all over.
.šš»
Depending on your country and laws, you can argue that regular hoof care is crucial for a horseās welfare and thus the farrier must be allowed to your barn, should it be closed.
It gets a bit harder with therapists since it isnāt always an accepted form of treatment, but in general the same rules apply.
