Born and raised in Cottonwood, Arizona, Camille grew up in a lively, close-knit household with a single mother, one older sister and two older brothers, who were always looking after their troublesome little sister. She learned early on how to hold her own in a family where everyone had an opinion.

Standing at just 5’1, Camille was used to being the smallest in class and spent most of her life being underestimated. She makes up for her height with a feistiness that could rival anyone twice her size. Her mother insists the Fairbanks sisters inherited their fiery temperament from their father. Camille and her sister know better; they got every ounce of it from their mom.

She attended San Diego State University, where she studied Journalism and Public Relations, convinced she was destined to make a career in radio and media. During her final year of college, Camille landed an internship at a major Los Angeles radio station. When they offered to keep her on after graduation, she packed everything she owned into a single suitcase, moved into an apartment with three strangers, and chased the dream she'd always imagined for herself.

For a while, things felt like they were finally falling into place—until the radio show she worked on was cancelled just a year later. Despite trying everything to stay at the station, there simply wasn't another position for her. Giving up and moving back to Arizona was never an option. Even after countless applications and rejections, Camille refused to believe Los Angeles had given up on her before she'd really had a chance. Reality eventually caught up with her. The glamorous media career she'd imagined never materialized, rent kept climbing, and dreams didn't pay bills. She traded ambition for stability, at least temporarily, taking a job at Off The Record so she at least could stay close to the music.

It was at the Recordstore that she met Randy. She attempted to resist the gravitational pull towards him for quite some time, committing to her self-made promise never to date a co-worker, until eventually she gave in on one late evening in november. They were happy together for a few years, until they weren't. With an aching heart, Camille accepted that separation might be the best solution for the growing tension and friction. But going separate ways is not as easy as it sounds in this economy...

When she realized that the city of LA wasn’t going to bless her with a new apartment or crazy salary upgrade any time soon, she turned the wheel a full 180 in opposite direction. She accepted the reality of being stuck in the apartment with her ex, but knew well enough that she couldn't take seeing him both at home as well as at work. She took on a position at Alibi dive, a way in which she made sure they were working different hours on opposite sides of the clock. Camille now juggles two jobs: mornings assisting with the production of a small local radio show and evenings managing the bar at Alibi. Her sleep schedule is held together by caffeine, stubbornness, and pure denial. She keeps telling herself that every exhausting shift is another step toward the career she originally came to Los Angeles for. Whether she fully believes that depends on the day.

Random facts

Tuesdays are sacred. They're her one guaranteed day off, and she'll guard them fiercely. Good luck convincing her to cover a shift.

She is chronically guilty of letting leftovers disappear into the back of the fridge until they're practically a science experiment, for the simple fact she will sometimes just forget to eat.

Camille has a mild obsession with everything Lisa Bonet, and she often returns to Queen Latifah's reminder not to let fear keep her standing still. If something doesn't work out, you get back up and try again.

'A different world' is her favorite show to watch on repeat on a rainy day while she binges on a bag of crisps.
