Cannot emphasize this enough. If your body fat percentage is normal and your doctor isn’t telling you to lose a few, you probably ain’t a bear, and you definitely aren’t in my book. The more we try to apply ‘bear’ to people who don’t qualify, the more fat men lose representation and acceptance–and the community as a whole loses more preciously scarce body positivity. The gay community has a whole menagerie of terms to pick from: Wolf, bull, otter, gym bunny, etc… Bears are fat. Let them be fat. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
