I'm a bit late but here's a quick doodle for yesterday's 'flowers' prompt for the @lamssummer2026 event! It's their state flowers: yellow jessamine for SC and rose for NY. (SC also has a state wildflower, the goldenrod - another yellow flower! The yellow state flowers just reinforce my perception of SC being "golden" in color lol - remember this?)

Robin asks who’s gonna be bait, and Dustin (wait you thought this wouldn’t be about Dustin? C’mon I famously only think about him) looks up like ‘don’t you dare, Steve’ and then when Nancy volunteers and tells them to go he has this look of worry and fear on his face before he turns to leave and he looks back at Nancy once or twice while running away.

I just can’t stop thinking about Dustin realizing in that moment that he’s been so afraid of losing Steve that he completely forgot that Steve isn’t the only one who loves to walk straight into danger. And so now the reality is that he could very well lose Nancy, but there’s literally no time to argue with her about it so he has to do what he’s told and leave.

Today’s prompt for the @lamssummer2026 event is the different lives/alternate professions AU! If they didn't end up becoming aides-de-camp c. 1777, I wanted to imagine them as pirates - but I also wanted it to make sense for them, so... (this went through a lot of changes lol)

Hamilton is a privateer (basically pirates, but with gov't permission), specifically the quartermaster - the captain's second-in-command, who is typically in charge of logistics, resources, and acts as the liaison and representative of the ship crew. But Hamilton's captain is greedy and targets even innocent civilians, i.e. Laurens. Meanwhile, Laurens is a merchant (I like to think he's supplying GW's forces), and when he fights back, impresses Hamilton to the point that he'd be recruited. Maybe they start their own crew together, Stede Bonnet style.

Originally I wanted to do a parody of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, but it didn't make sense in their context, so I scrapped the idea. Special shoutout to the show Black Sails and Assassin's Creed: Black Flag for all the pirate info and inspo!

the two things that Dustin has been shown to be insecure about: having a best friend and not being missed

and it doesn't mean he's not still friends with the Party because he clearly is, but I don't think these points could have been addressed as well with anyone else because at the end of the day, every other member of the Party is going to ultimately have a closer relationship with someone else than Dustin (Will with Mike, Mike and El, Lucas and Max)

while yes, people can absolutely love their friends as much as their SOs and yes, people can have more than one friend, narratively, I don't think having the Party repeat yes, we care about you Dustin, was ever going to hit harder than the end of s3. at the end of the day, their stories would always end up centering someone else over Dustin

So some fanartist drew a “sexy” (read: booby) version of a (cartoon) character who is traditionally very non-sexualised. Fans of the character got mad about it because it’s kind of groundbreaking how that character is written and portrayed and this art totally ignores the entire point of the character. They demanded the art be deleted. In response to that other people said, well what the fanartist did may be distateful but they have every right to draw what they’re into. The two sides fight for days and each starts a harassment campaign and even report their “opponents’” accounts.

So far so typical. But things eventually come to a head and they decide that this will be settled by votes - not through a poll. Through donations to a children’s education charity via each side’s portal. Whoever can get the highest amount of donation wins.

She's so relieved to have a trusted male figure in Dustin's life. She even kind of loves that he's so different from her son, because she was very aware of Dustin's growing tendency to see certain kinds of people as inferior. Plus, it showed him that he could be loved by anyone, even someone from a completely different social circle.

Plus, Steve is sweet. He'd dropped the "charm the parents" act pretty quickly once Dusty called him on it, but he was still sweet. He always helped clean up after dinner or carried in the groceries, griping at Dustin about manners. He got that look in his eyes every time she hugged her, too. The one that said he needed a parent.

So she wanted to make sure he stayed close. Make sure he found someone good, and Claudia approved.

Most of the time, he gently turned down the dates, but every now and then he would click with someone, and they would go out. Claudia always hoped they were the one, but it always ended after a short while. She hated how disappointed he always was afterward.

Then she meets a nice man named Wayne. They met at Melvalds, both of them chatting with Joyce until a customer came. They chat for a long while, and despite appearances, Wayne is an easy conversationalist.

They go to Benny's, ordering hot plates and talking about their lives. Maybe Wayne flirts a little and maybe Claudia doesn't hate that, but the important thing is that Wayne has a nephew. A nephew who he seems super proud of who plays guitar and likes nerdy stuff.

They plot to set them up together. Steve agrees after a little poking, still a little sore after the last one ended so quickly. Eddie agrees as well, ever trusting of his uncle's opinion.

They park across the street with Claudia's birding binoculars and watch the two fall in love.
