THE SCIENCE TRIP   —    a daring but expectingly chaotic journey that a few of the students from MIDTOWN HIGH school of science and technology would be taking over their summer holiday.    How exactly a trip to Europe was to be science-related   —   MJ was unsure but signed up none the less.   Now they sat on the plane headed for Venice,    Mr. Harrington’s disorganization causing them to all be seated in pairs of two in different areas of the plane.    Mr. Harrington begins to yell at his students throughout the plane,    instructing MJ’s partner,    Betty,    to move back a seat and Michelle to shift over one seat.    Obeying the simple command,    she actually begins to listen to the conversation happening between Ned,    her teacher,    and Peter.    Her eyes are trained on him for an extended amount of time,     only snapping back to looking at the screen when Mr. Harrington announces that Peter is to sit next to HER on this flight.    She stares at the boring flight information on the screen until the ordeal is settled,    awkwardly.     She holds her silence for a moment longer before awkwardly turning her head towards him,    ‘    so,    a perfume allergy huh   ?    ‘

     “michelle?”  maybe he shouldn’t be surprised to see her sitting in one of the few desks in the room.  he’s seen her dips her toes in a lot of classes and after school activities.  why would sign language be any different?  it’s new.  it’s another ‘foreign’ language elective.  but… maybe she’s there for him?  no, that’s stupid.  peter adjusts his grip on his backpack straps and moves further into the room.  should he… should he sit next to her?  it’d be weird if he didn’t, right?  “are you actually taking this class or just… you know… here to draw me in crisis again?”

   ❝Y’know  if  ya  think  about  it.  .  .❞ Momentary pause as brown eyes glimmer with wry humor, ❝Mysterio  coulda’  been  the  coolest  virtual  reality  game  creator  ever–   No,  no,  I’m  serious!  He  coulda’  done  anything  cooler  than  set  my  life  on actual-dumpster-fire.  .  .❞  Lips purse as the teen’s head shakes solemnly at the sorely missed opportunity. ❝Man,  this  is  so  sad, Edith can we hit fifty likes?❞  

“Nope,” he chimed in, popping the ‘p’. He reached for a piece of popcorn and tossed it into the air to catch in his mouth. Once that was gone, he plopped down next to the stranger.

“Why, do you? I like the thrill of not knowing whether I’ll get mugged or attacked. Also, like, think about how many people walk past a murderer in their lifetime. You may make it through the day, or you may not! Exciting!”

Being KICKED out of class   —   not uncommon for the girl.    Arguments started with a myriad of teachers over the years  —   She has found a small spot of the side of a staircase,   where the sunlight illuminates the pages of her novel.    With the sound of footsteps,    her gaze raises from the book to rest her eyes on HIM.    ‘    shouldn’t you be in CLASS,    Parker  ?    ’

‘   that was mean   ’    M.J looks up from her sketchbook,    pencil still absently shading on the parchment.    Stoic expression holds for only a moment,    before breaking into a small smirk.    She nods,      ‘   nice.   ’
