At some point in your life you need to confront the fact that thinking you’re the worst person on the planet is also a form of egoism.
If you agree that people with "main character syndrome" are delusional for thinking everything will go their way, you should also consider how perceiving yourself as someone uniquely annoying that literally nobody would love you is also a warped self-centred perspective.
Eventually you need to realise nobody is inherently more or less valuable than others, nobody is truly beyond redemption or love. You are not some special exception to this. Thinking that you are is just your ego and mental illnesses talking.
Getting better involves being kind to yourself but sometimes you also need to get a fucking grip, you are not the main character whether the story is supposed to be a tragedy or not.
DnD commission! He’s a tiefling bard, had a lot of fun with the color palette for this one ✨
Look. Look. I think the hardest thing about your twenties is the shift from getting shoved towards new frontiers of maturity by, like, puberty and education and the logistics of gaining independence, to you having to shove yourself. It’s a mental recalibration from “you grow up whether you like it or not” to “you can and should keep evolving, but now you have to choose it. And you have to choose it a half-dozen times a day in increasingly annoying ways. And this sucks but the reward is that you get to be a person in the world.”
This so frickin true! I remember being in my teens and seeing adults who were just kinda stuck where they were and thinking “I never wanna become the type of person who just stops learning and just falls into routine” but as an adult in my early 30s I realized I HAVE! Due to various reasons, including depression. But my therapist told me that it’s such a gradual thing, sliding into that stagnant comfort. Various parts of life beyond your control, and those well within your control, all factor into stagnation as an adult and it very much requires a conscious, determined effort to continue to grow and to stay in love with learning and taking risks and trying new things. And when you’ve been so “comfortable” for so long it can be terrifying to try new things (especially if you’re a perfectionist like me and have the whole succeed immediately or you fail mentality) but you have to BELIEVE. IT. IS. WORTH. IT.
BECAUSE IT IS!!

having unwashed hair will have you believing shit like i can’t be saved
i know what's on your mind, but it's not what you think it is
I think the purest form of love is just wanting someone to notice life with you. "taste this. look at that. hear this song." again and again. until you can't imagine noticing life without them.

because the butterflies said so
“An honorable human relationship — that is, one in which two people have the right to use the word “love” — is a process, delicate, violent, often terrifying to both persons involved, a process of refining the truths they can tell each other. It is important to do this because it breaks down human self-delusion and isolation. It is important to do this because in doing so we do justice to our own complexity. It is important to do this because we can count on so few people to go that hard way with us.It isn’t that to have an honorable relationship with you, I have to understand everything, or tell you everything at once, or that I can know, beforehand, everything I need to tell you. It means that most of the time I am eager, longing for the possibility of telling you. That these possibilities may seem frightening, but not destructive, to me. That I feel strong enough to hear your tentative and groping words. That we both know we are trying, all the time, to extend the possibilities of truth between us.The possibility of life between us.”

Do you know what I was, how I lived? You know what despair is; then winter should have meaning for you.
I did not expect to survive, earth suppressing me. I didn’t expect to waken again, to feel in damp earth my body able to respond again, remembering after so long how to open again in the cold light of earliest spring --
afraid, yes, but among you again crying yes risk joy
in the raw wind of the new world.
