I hate that I have to be that person on release day, but if I see you all passing around the Shawn Hatosy âYes, Chefâ audio like a Google Drive heirloom, I am going to personally call Shawn Hatosy to snitch on youâŚ
Quinn is a small, woman-owned platform built to pay writers and voice actors. Quinn is a team of 11 people! This is not like Netflix where pirating it is sticking it to a corporation. It is directly cutting the people who made it out of getting paid. It also violates their terms and can get content taken down, which ruins it for everyone.
Also, these audios are intimate. Voice actors are performing vulnerability and desire for an audience that is choosing to be there. Theyâre mature, interested, and engaged. Leaking that outside of that space is invasive. Do not leak it. Do not be a creep.
If it is good enough to be foaming at the mouth over within hours, it is good enough to pay a few dollars for. Do not be strange about art you claim to love.

Leon Kennedy as a dad has been plaguing my brain for ages (in a good way). I was wondering if you would be able to write a fic for him? Maybe one where his reader wife just had a baby and itâs the first morning home with their little girl. Reader wakes up to find Leon isnât there in the morning. She manages to pull sore and achy postpartum body out of bed to look for him. Only to find Leon shirtless (with a dad bod) in the babyâs room sitting with their little girl all cuddled up to his chest doing skin to skin. Then domestic fluff ensues

đŹ To be honest, I almost didn't post this, and I almost left this app, but then I remember I love writing, I love interacting with you all, and that's all! Harry Styles' new album coming up in an hour for me, so reminder to treat people with kindness! Hope you like this one đ
The first thing you notice after barely having two hours of sleep is that thereâs too much silence.
You sit up quickly in bed, trying to do your best to not overthink that something bad has happened. However, when you turn to your right and see that Leon isnât there, you canât stop but let a huge variety of many negative thoughts immediately start forming in your head.
âLeon?â
Thereâs no answer, of course.
The moment you throw the covers off and try to get out of bed is when you feel the pain. You canât help but let out a groan, cursing under your breath. Your body aches way too much, something thatâs completely normal considering you gave birth just three days ago.
When you stand up, it feels as if your body's protesting and telling you to get back to bed. You were discharged yesterday, and even though everything and, specially, you and your daughter were perfect for you to finally return home, the doctor made it very clear: youâre going to feel awful for a few days and, no matter how much you thought you could handle everything, you just couldnât handle things on your own for now.
You underestimated his comment, of course, and now, as you slowly walk around your room, putting on your robe and your slippers, you realize you should take things more calmly.
However⌠now it doesnât seem like the moment to do it.
âFuckâŚâ you mutter quietly to yourself.
You reach the bedroom door and force yourself to rest against the doorframe for a bit and take a breath. You feel a faint pressure in your lower abdomen, and you canât help but worry about it being just a mere pressure.
But⌠your biggest concern are your husband and your daughter, who seem to have disappeared.
âLeon?â you call again, a little louder this time. âLove?â
Again, thereâs no answer.
You feel a pressure settling in your chest, and you feel your heart beating faster.
âOkay⌠You got thisâŚâ you whisper, encouraging yourself to keep moving.
After taking a few more steps and reaching the middle of the hallway that leads to your daughterâs room, you force yourself to stop again. You feel more pressure building in your head, and your vision even blurs slightly.
Immediately, knowing what could happen, you force yourself to lean against the wall, close your eyes for a bit, and practice the same breathing exercises that only a few days ago helped you manage the pain between contractions.
âGod⌠how did I give birth to a baby and now I canât even walk?â you shake your head, biting your lip. âCome on⌠Letâs goâŚâ
You start walking again, cursing the feeling that the hallway seems much longer than usual.
The only thing that comforts you is that, as you keep going, you slowly start hearing some noises, murmurs that you canât quite understand, and what sounds like the rocking chair moving.
The rocking chair.
You see your babyâs bedroom door slightly open and carefully open it a bit more.
You let out a sigh, finally relaxing.
You see Leon, shirtless, with the baby resting on his chest, her tiny hands curled into little fists. His left hand rests on her back while his lips keep pressing soft kisses to her forehead, whispering who knows what to her.
You notice how he canât stop smiling shyly.
Leon leans his head back and closes his eyes, clearly trying to rest for a bit after the terrible night you both had. His thumb keeps moving up and down the babyâs back, and when you hear a small sound escape her lips, you canât stop a tear from slipping down your cheek.
When your husband opens his eyes, his gaze meets yours, and he smiles even more.
âHeyâŚâ he whispers, trying not to wake the baby. âYou should be in bed, resting. Do I have to remind you what the doctor said?â
You shake your head, crossing your arms and leaning against the doorframe.
You canât stop looking at him. His hair is completely messy, he has more beard than you know he usually likes to keep, and there are dark circles under his eyes. Too many, actually, especially considering he hasnât even been a father for a week.
Though⌠you canât complain: youâd probably look exactly the same⌠or even worse.
Still, you canât stop noticing his chest and how his body, still very toned, seems a little more relaxed since he took paternity leaveâŚ
âYou werenât in bed,â you reply suddenly, trying not to let your hormones get you in the mood. âSorry for overreacting, but I was worriedâŚâ
Leonâs expression changes instantly. He goes from being relaxed with your baby, to being completely alert, even starting to hold the little one a bit more firmly.
He shifts in the rocking chair. Now, his face shows nothing but worried about you. Also, you notice how he seems to be apologizing with his eyes.
âShe started getting fussy around 5,â your husband explains, now taking the baby into his arms and beginning to rock her. âYou were sleeping so deeply and seemed so relaxed⌠I didnât want to wake you. You needed, and still need, to rest,â he insists.
âYou couldâve woken me up. Iâm her mother, Leon,â you reproach quietly, rubbing your eyes.
âAnd, as her mother, you need to rest,â Leon counters. âDonât you remember what the doctor told you? I thought we talked about this before you were discharged.â
âYes, but you also need to sleep, Leon,â you huff.
âYou know I barely sleep normally,â he gives you a small smile. âSleeping even less to take care of my daughter wonât hurt me.â
âYou say that now, but whenââ
âCome on, weâve actually been having a good time. Did you know we even had a little chat?â he murmurs, lowering his gaze to the baby. âDidnât we, sunshine?â
The baby makes a small noise, as if answering him, and curls herself more tightly against Leon.
âYouâre shirtless, Leon,â you say, walking toward him slowly. âItâs winter. Youâre going to catch a cold! And then, the baby will catch it!â
Leon looks you up and down when you carefully sit on his thigh, doing your best to not disturb the baby.
âWell⌠yeah, I know,â he answers shyly, scratching the back of his neck. You canât help blushing. âWhen they were doing your blood tests and all that medical stuff, and I stayed with the baby, the nurse explained that skin-to-skin contact helps regulate their heart rate, temperatureâŚâ he shrugs. âSince she seemed a little nervous, and she didnât look hungry, and nothing else seemed to be wrong, I decided to try it and see if itâd actually calm her down.â
Your throat tightens.
âIâve also read several articles about it,â Leon adds, a little embarrassed. âAt this point, I could qualify as a pediatrician, you know.â
You laugh, but the pain in your lower abdomen returns.Â
Now, itâs even sharper.
You place a hand there discreetly, massaging the area to calm the pain and trying not to let Leon notice but, of course, he does.
âLoveâŚâ quickly, he makes a move to stand up, forcing you to stand as well. âCome on, sit down,â he gestures toward the rocking chair with the hand that isnât holding the baby. Youâre about to protest, but he cuts you off. âThe doctor said you needed rest⌠You canât be making this much effortâŚâ
âI only crossed the hallwayâŚâ
You hold back a groan that escapes anyway when you feel the pressure again, stronger now.
âHey, you comfortable? Are you okay? Do you need me to bring you something? Do you want me to put the baby in the crib and carry you to bed inâ?â
âLeon.â
Interrupting him doesnât calm him down⌠In fact, it seems to do the opposite.Â
You can see how worried heâs becoming. You would even swear his face is turning a little pale.
âIâm fine, Iâm fine!â you rush to say when you see him starting to crouch in front of you, without letting go of the baby, of course.
You see him close his eyes and let out a sigh, much more relaxed.
However, when he opens them again, it feels like heâs analyzing you completely.
âYou shouldnât be walking around like nothing happened,â he scolds.
âI only gave birth, Leon. Itâs not like Iâm not broken or anything like thatâŚâ
âJust gave birth, you say⌠YeahâŚâ
You lean back in the rocking chair and start swaying, seeing how Leon canât stop pacing from one side to the other with the baby in his arms. You canât help holding back tears when you hear him telling her about how you met, how he asked you to be his girlfriend, how you got married, how you both reacted when you found out you were expecting herâŚ
âYou know? Youâre definitely a good dad. Best one in the world, Iâd say.â
Leon turns to look at you and raises an eyebrow.
âLike⌠as a dad, you mean?â
âYes,â you gesture up and down at him, smiling. âYouâre just⌠there, with the baby, telling her our entire story as if she actually understands youâŚâ
âShe does understand me,â he reproaches, unable to suppress a smile. âWhy do you think we get along so well? You know I talked to her a lot when she was still inside you⌠Besides, I probably look terrified.â He chuckles quietly and shakes his head. âDamn⌠I donât know how to do anything⌠I donât even know how toââ
âYouâre doing everything perfect,â you tell him, straightening slightly as if to stand but sitting back down when he gives you one of his looks. âLeon, for Godâs sake, if you could see yourselfâŚâ
âSee myself how?â
âI havenât seen you like this since the day we got married. So⌠in love.â
That leaves him speechless.
He stares at you for a moment, clearing his throat as if pretending he doesnât know what to say.
âWellâŚâ he stammers a little and clears his throat again. âYeah, Iâm in love with her⌠I mean⌠God, sheâs our daughter. Ours. We made her, and she barely even exists yet, and sheâs so perfectâŚâ
You stand up and move behind him, wrapping your arms around his waist and leaving several kisses all across his back until you reach his shoulders.
âShe wasnât comfortable in the crib,â he explains quietly. âI woke up when I heard those tiny little noises she makes, so⌠well, I picked her up, went down to the kitchen, and made her a bottle⌠although she didnât want it,â he explains. âI also changed her diaper twice, but the third time she didnât want anything either⌠So⌠well, weâve just been talking a little and stuff⌠until now she finally fell asleep.â
You smile, standing on your tiptoes and kissing his cheek.
âShe knows you. Sheâs your best friend, I promise.â
Youâre not entirely sure why, but you say those words without much conviction, almost as if they hurt to say.
Leon notices, of course.
He gently moves you aside, and just as carefully places the baby, completely asleep, into her crib, only to turn back to you with his arms wide open.
âCome here.â
âI thought you didnât want me moving,â you say with your arms crossed.
âThis is different. Canât I hug my wife now?â
That makes you laugh a little. You end up crossing the few steps between you and lean against his chest while he wraps his arms around you, leaving shy kisses on the top of your head.
Heâs the one who takes the initiative to move you both a little closer, eventually dragging the rocking chair until it sits right beside the crib.
Leon sits down in it and then takes you by the waist, gently forcing you to sit on his lap.
You lean forward slightly, moving closer to the crib and softly brushing the babyâs back.
God, Leon was right: she was your daughter.
How could you possibly have made something so⌠perfect?
âSheâs so smallâŚâ you whisper.
âShe has your nose,â Leon assures.
âAnd those little earsâŚâ
âYeah, those are mine. Poor girl.â
âLeon, your ears are perfect,â you lightly hit his arm. âYouâre perfect. No wonder our baby is so beautifulâŚâ
âDonât say that⌠she got all of that from her gorgeous mother.â
You wrap your arms around his neck and look at him. Leon beats you to it and wraps his arms around your waist too, leaving a quick kiss on your lips.
âI donât know how you can be so good at this alreadyâŚâ you tell him, sliding your fingers through his hair and fixing it a little.
âAt all this stealth stuff? The DSO, I guess⌠It had to be good for something, right?â
You roll your eyes, your lips curving into a smile that achieves exactly what Leon wanted: making you laugh.
âI meant with us,â you say. âYouâre a very good husband, and youâve only been a father for a short time, but⌠youâre already perfect.â
âI honestly donât know what Iâm doing,â he admits. âEvery time she does anything I think Iâve already fucked up.â
âYeah⌠same happens to me,â you admit too, though itâs no surprise to your husband.
âYou know that earlier, when you were still asleep, I checked if she was breathing six times?â
âI did it nine times when I came out of the shower the day after giving birth.â
âAre you serious?â he asks in surprise, staring at you.
âI swear,â you assure him. âIt was when I forced you to go outside with Chris to get some air, even if it was for just two minutes, because you hadnât left the hospital for almost two days. And you didnât eat anything.â
A smile slowly appears on his face. He hugs you a little tighter around the waist, being careful not to hurt you.
âWeâre a disaster, loveâŚâ
âDefinitely. But at least we have each other, right?â
He kisses your cheek several times, then leaves one on your temple.
âDo you think youâre going to escape from me that easily?â
You shrug.
âEarlier, I thought youâd left the house with the baby,â you comment, and you regret it instantly when you see Leon grow sad even though he tries not to show it. âLeonâŚâ
âDid you really think that? That Iâd left? That Iâd leave you alone? Especially after giving birth?â
âI called you and you didnât answer,â you reply a bit coldly. âI just⌠I donât know. I know maybe Iâm overreacting a lotâŚâ
âAnd itâs completely fine. Hormones are driving you crazy,â he says, gently cupping your face. âI donât want you to feel bad, but⌠if something like that ever crosses your mind again, tell me, alright? I didnât hear you before because I was with our tiny, perfect, wonderful daughter, but next time ifââ
A small sound, followed by another, and then another, until it breaks into a soft cry, interrupts you both.
You both look down at the crib and see that the baby is no longer asleep. Her eyes are half open now, her arms moving clearly with the intention of wanting to be picked up.
Of Leon picking her up.
âWell⌠looks like someone has already got used to daddyâs arms⌠Yeah, guess youâre definitely your motherâs copy, sunshineâŚâ

đŹ I'm literally in absolute shock with the overall interaction we've had for the past day. A DAY. Really, thank you so, so much for everything. I really hope you like this one! đ
The alarm goes off, but you donât do anything about it.
Youâve been up all night. Your heartâs been pounding nonstop. You couldnât stop staring at the ceiling, being so nervous, and thinking about everything that could possibly go wrong⌠even you promised yourself when you enrolled your daughter in school that you wouldnât get like this.
Now that your daughterâs first day of school has finally arrived, youâre much worse than you ever imagined you could be.
You turn slightly and see that Leonâs already awake. Just like you, heâs lying on his back, one arm under his head while he rubs his eyes with his other hand.
He sighs. You see him shift uncomfortably beneath the sheets that cover him from the waist down. You notice heâs far too tense, so you move closer to him and begin to stroke his bare chest, leaving a kiss on his shoulder.
âAre you asleep, love?â you whisper, even though you know perfectly well heâs not.
âNo.â
âAt least⌠were you able to sleep at all? Even just a little?â
âWhat do you think?â
You swallow and wrap your arms around him.
âWhat ifâ?â
âDonât start thinking about those what ifs,â Leon interrupts in a much sharper tone than you expected. He turns toward you and kisses your forehead before hugging you, too. âSorry for talking to you like thatâŚâ he apologizes. âItâs just thatâŚâ
âWeâre overwhelmed,â you reply, smiling at him and kissing his lips. âA lot.â
âIâd say weâre scared, but if you can call it whatever you want. You know Iâll alwaysââ
The crash that echoes from the room next to yours makes both of you sit up quickly, jumping out of bed and hurriedly putting on your pajamas.
âMOMMY! DADDY! IâM AWAKE! IâM READY FOR MY FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!â
You see Leon roll his eyes, and a small smile forming on his face.
âWell, at least one of us three is excited about todayâŚâ
âAnd what did you expect?â you tell him while tying your robe and slipping on your house slippers. âThat sheâd be sad?â
âNo, but I did expect her to be a little more nervous. You know thatââ
Your bedroom door suddenly opens, and your daughter walks in without saying anything.
Her hairâs completely messy and full of little animal clips and glittery hair ties. Sheâs wearing the light blue dress with white polka dots you bought her⌠even one of the straps is slipping off her shoulder. The shoes sheâs wearing are the same ones⌠except each one is a different color.
Not to mentions heâs already wearing her backpack and canât stop bouncing.
âGood morning, sweetheart,â you say, crouching in front of her and kissing her cheek. âWow, you really woke up early⌠You even got dressed by yourself.â
âYes, mommy!â she says quickly, shouting, running, and throwing herself on your bed. âI couldnât sleep⌠I was thinking that maybe my new teacher has a hamster in the classroom! And also about maybe my teacher teaches me how to add, and maybe itâs different from how daddy taught me to add⌠AndâŚâ
She talks so fast her words get tangled. You barely understand what sheâs saying, but Leon and you canât stop looking at each other and smiling.
âEasy, sweetheart... Breathe a little bit,â Leon finally tells her when he sees sheâs starting to cough.
The girl dramatically takes a breath and lets it out the same way⌠and does it a couple more times before sitting on the bed, climbing on it, jumping a little (shoes included, of course), sitting down again, and climbing off.
âWhen are we going to go to school?!â she asks excitedly, grabbing the straps of her backpack.
âHave you brushed your teeth?â you ask while carefully removing all the accessories she put in her hair.
âYesâŚâ
âWith toothpaste?â Leon adds, raising an eyebrow.
She doesnât answer, but she smiles.
A lot.
Too much.
âGo to the bathroom with mom,â Leon tells her. âAnd brush your teeth with toothpaste.â
âDaddy⌠it tastes sooooo bad⌠Ugh.â
âCome on, princessâŚâ you say.
The little girl gets moving and runs down the hallway until she reaches the bathroom. She grabs her little stool and carefully climbs onto it, standing much higher. As you step inside, yawning, you see her making funny faces at herself in the mirror.
âMommy, do you think teachers get to school earlier because they live there? Or is it because they have to feed the school so it can work?â
Youâre focused on fixing your daughterâs hair, but out of the corner of your eye you see Leon arriving and leaning against the doorframe with his arms crossed, already perfectly dressed in a shirt and jeans.
âFeed the schoolâŚ?â your husband whispers under his breath, confused.
âShut upâŚâ you murmur.
âDo you think my teacher will like me?â the girl keeps talking. âAunt Claire says Iâm very nice, but uncle Chris says sometimes Iâm very annoying and that I should be quieter. Oh! But aunt Jill says Iâm very good at sharing⌠except when itâs my crayons. I donât like lending my crayons to anyone. If I lend them, they get used up,â she adds.
âWe can buy you more. Thatâs not a problem,â you tell her while starting to braid her hair.
âBut they wonât be the same colors! Besides, my colors have glitter!â
âWe can buy you glitter ones, sweetheart,â Leon assures her.
After a few minutes where your daughter continues rambling about everything that might happen on her first day of school and, unfortunately for Leon and you, making you both overthink even more about what could go wrong, her hair is finally perfect in a braid⌠and, of course, secured with one of the clips she had, a pastel pink one with a little giraffe on it.
Once you finish helping her brush her teeth (because, yes, the little one has refused to have breakfast several times even though Leon prepared her a peanut butter and jam toast), you all head to the kitchen.
The little girl sits in her usual seat while you prepare her lunch⌠even though you already had it ready from the day before.
Youâre cutting an apple into pieces large enough when Leon steps beside you and opens your daughterâs lunchbox, placing it in front of you and pointing at the grapes that were already perfectly washed, cut, and seedless.
âYou already packed fruit yesterday, love,â he says calmly, even though he clearly isnât.
âShe could choke on them.â
Leon looks down at the lunchbox, at the grapes, each one almost perfectly cut in half, and then looks back at you.
âYou cut them in half. Theyâre big pieces. Itâs the same way you always cut them here at home.â
âStill, she could chokeâŚâ
âLove, sheâs 6 years old. Itâs how she always eats grapes with us,â Leon repeats.
âBut she wonât be with us. Sheâll be alone, Leon. Alone.â
Leon is about to answer, but your daughter speaks before he can:
âAre you arguing quietly so I donât notice and get sad?â
âNo!â you say immediately, turning toward her.
âWeâre not arguing!â Leon adds.
âOkay!â she narrows her eyes at you both, as if analyzing you⌠and then, smiles. âCan I tell you my plan for today?!â
âPlan for todayâŚ?â
âYes, a plan!â the girl replies excitedly before you can ask what the plan is. âFirst, I go into my class and say, âHello, Iâm very happy to be here today!â, but Iâll say it quietly and not screaming because I donât want to scare the other kids⌠And then I look for a kid who seems nice! How can you tell if a kid is nice?â
You move closer to her and kneel beside her, stroking her cheek.
âSo⌠by seeing how they treat other kids, the teacher, or anyone whoâs at school.â
âOkay!â she nods seriously. âIf they share with other kids and speak nicely, theyâre good. If they push and speak badly, theyâre bad.â
âWell, they donât necessarily have to be badâŚâ Leon gently corrects her, choosing his words very carefully. âTheyâre just⌠learning, just like you are. And, when youâre learning, sometimes you donât do things right.â
The little girl thinks about it for a while before finally nodding again.
âOkay, daddy! If I see a kid pushing another kid or speaking badly to the teacher, Iâll tell them they have to do things the right way!â
You exchange a look with Leon, and youâre both thinking the same thing.
Youâre raising her well.Â
Youâre raising a wonderful daughter with incredible values.
Minutes pass, and several hours, too. With preparing your daughterâs lunch again, fixing her hair again because she had taken the braid out, making sure she has everything ready, getting dressed, Leon playing a little with your daughter and her dolls, and then checking again that everything is ready⌠itâs finally time to leave.
Your daughter stands by the door while you put on your jacket and grab your bag. She starts spinning quickly in front of you⌠until she stops because she gets a little dizzy.
Your chest tightens when you see sheâs about to fall. You quickly grab her by the shoulders to steady her⌠and all she does is laugh.
âDonât I look like a big girl, mommy?!â
You stop to look at her.Â
The backpack is too big for her. Her little fingers, just like before, are grabbing the straps tightly. Her eyes, blue like Leonâs, are wide open, and she closes them when you crouch down to her height and kiss her forehead. Sheâs smiling from ear to ear, with a couple of missing teeth that make her look even more adorable.
âYou donât look like a big girl: you are a big girl, sweetheart.â
Leon clears his throat and you immediately stand up, straightening your clothes. He takes a few steps toward you and wraps an arm around your waist, kissing your cheek despite your daughterâs complaints.
He opens the front door, letting your daughter and you walk out first, and then giving you a playful smack on your ass while he opens the car.
âLeon! Your daughter is right here!â you scold him as you walk together toward the car, hand in hand, until he opens the passenger door for you. He just smiles at you⌠and gives you another one you have no time to complain about.
Once youâre inside and both of you have checked (more than once) that your daughter has fastened her seatbelt, Leon starts the engine and heads toward the school.
âSweetheart, do you remember what we talked about?â Leon says, looking at your daughter through the rearview mirror. âIf you need anythingâŚâ
âYes, daddy, I know! I tell my teacher!â
âAndâŚ?â you add, mimicking your husbandâs gesture. âDo you remember the other thing we talked about?â
âIf I miss you and get sad, I think that Iâm only going to be at school for a little, and then youâll come pick me up! And we can have ice-cream!â
You canât help but get a little emotional hearing that.
âOh! And I donât have to forget that I have to be kind to everyone,â she adds.
Leon nods, smiling proudly.
After about ten minutes of driving, in which you donât say much and instead sing your daughterâs favorite Disney songs, Leon finally looks for a place in the parking in front of the school.
Youâre quite surprised that, even though thereâs still about half an hour before classes start, itâs already full and you have to park a bit farther away.
You head toward the school calmly. Your daughter walks between you both, holding your hands. You canât help but look at Leon, who seems to be analyzing everything in the smallest detail: how the children are running around, their parents crouching down to hug and kiss them⌠You also notice him seeing the teachers, who are chatting in a corner near the entrance.
Youâve known him for years, and by his body language you know heâs starting to get a little nervous.
Letâs just say⌠new experiences, especially those involving your daughter, arenât exactly easy for him.
âLeonâŚâ you touch his arm gently.
âYeah. I know, sorry,â he quickly says, turning his attention back to you both. âItâs justâŚâ
You feel your daughter squeeze your hand tightly. You glance at Leonâs hand and see sheâs squeezing his too.
You assume itâs nerves, of course, even though she seems so excited and confident. Itâs⌠inevitable, really, now that youâre only a few meters from the school entrance.
âMommy, daddy⌠do you think Iâll already have a seat chosen? Or will I get to choose it? I hope they donât put me next to someone who eats their boogers⌠And do you think my teacher drinks coffee in class? Aunt Claire told me adults drink coffee and kids canât because they get nervous⌠Oh! I think Iâm going to learn new things today. Maybe tomorrow Iâll know how to do those calculations that appear on the papers from your work! Those daddy sometimes forget at home!â
âYeah, maybe,â Leon murmurs, trying not to laugh. âWho knows? Maybe youâll even graduate early and end up working with us at the DSO.â
You give Leon a look.
âJust kiddingâŚâ he whispers, fully aware that sometimes his jokes sound more real than he thinks. âSeriously, you know Iâd never letââ
âI forgot to show you my cartwheel!â
Before you can say anything, and before Leon can either, your daughter lets go of your hands, raises her arms, and does not one, not two, but three cartwheels right in front of you.
Leon keeps calling her name, telling her to stop⌠while you hope she doesnât crash into anyone.
âIâm going to do that during the break!â she shouts, walking back toward you while fixing her hair.
âSure, yeah⌠But be careful, sweetheartâŚâ
Leon looks at you and sighs, trying to calm down as he places a hand on his chest and looks at you.
âSheâs fineâŚâ you murmur, even though you were certain something bad was about to happen.
âYeah, butâŚâ
âDaddy. Mommy⌠are you going to cry today?â
Your daughter smiles at both of you, though she seems a little more worried now⌠especially when neither Leon or you answer immediately.
âItâs okay if you cry! Mommy says itâs very good.â
Your husband crouches down to her height and gently holds her shoulders. The little girl opens her arms and wraps them around Leonâs neck, something that completely catches him off guard.
âYouâll do great, youâll see,â Leon encourages her, lifting her into his arms, kissing her cheek, and setting her back down. Then he offers her one hand, and you do the same. Leon looks at you, and you canât help getting emotional seeing how emotional he is. âCome on, letâs go. Weâll have to find your classroom, right?â
And thatâs exactly what you do.
When you reach the door youâve been told is her classroom, you see a woman, around thirty years old, approach you and greet you warmly.
You glance down at your daughter who, clearly, is more than impressed. She canât stop smiling and bouncing excitedly between you until, after a few seconds, she decides to stand right next to her teacher.
âGood morning! Iâm new in this class! Youâre my teacher, right?â the woman nods. âGreat! I really like cats and coloring, but sometimes Iâm not very good at it. I also like doing addition with my daddy, and working in our garden with my mommy. Oh! And sometimes I also go with uncle Chris to the shooting range when he has to practice!â
âHey!â
You immediately shout after hearing what your daughter just said. Leon wraps an arm around your waist and squeezes it to calm you down. You donât calm down, of course, so you pretend you did: you put on your best smile for the teacher⌠who clearly doesnât know what to do or say.
âSometimes she likes to go with her uncle, yesâŚâ you excuse yourself, without giving many more explanations.
âNo problem, Mrs. Kennedy!â the teacher replies, a little nervous. However, both Leon and you are surprised that she already seems to know who you are. âI know about your work and honestly, I respect and admire what you do a lot. I mean⌠it was included in important information I needed to know about your daughter,â she adds when she sees you donât seem to understand. Right, now you remember⌠You should have put down a fake job, but⌠âItâs a pleasure to meet you both, Mr. and Mrs. Kennedy. I can guarantee you that your daughterâs in good hands,â she smiles, then looks down at your daughter, whoâs now hugging her leg. âRight?â
âYes!â the little girl claps. âYou can go now!â
Leon and you look at each other once more⌠and saying you are surprised by how determined she seems is, definitely, an understatement.
âWhat?â your husband says.
âYou go to your work, and I go to mine!â
âYour⌠work?â you say now.
âYes, mommy. Youâre the one who always tells me that learning and studying is my job!â
Wow. You told her that when you explained she had to go to school just like Leon and you go to the DSO offices, meetings, different missions, and thatâs why sometimes she has to stay with Claire⌠but you certainly didnât think she would take you so seriously.
Resigned, and a little afraid you might start crying right there (which is the only thing you feel like doing), you kneel down and she walks toward you. You give her a very, very tight hug, which she quickly slips out of to go over to Leon, who places a kiss on her forehead.
After that, she goes inside the classroom with her teacher.
âDonât worry about me! Iâm a big girl! I love you, mommy and daddy! Iâll tell you all about my new friends when you pick me up!â
And after that, the teacher gives you one last smile before closing the door.
Leon and you remain in the hallway for a minute, not really knowing what to do. Most of the parents who have also left their children in their respective classrooms are already leaving the school, but youâŚ
Suddenly, your husband takes your hand with a firmness that surprises you.
âWell⌠thatâs it, I guess,â he says.
âShe didnât even hesitate about going in or notâŚâ you reply. Leon makes you turn around and start heading toward the schoolâs exit. âLeon, itâs justââ
âNo, I didnât expect to see her so⌠happy. Like⌠so ready to start school.â
âI thought she was going to start crying, to be honest,â you admit, even though the one who now has tears in her eyes is you.
Leon canât help but curve his lips slightly, leaning closer to you, pressing a brief kiss to your lips, and then another to your hand.
âThat means weâve done our job well, then. Even if we overthink too much sometimes.â
âWell⌠did you know I was just thinking that she could choke on the apple?â you say, feeling a little guilty. Leon is about to answer, but you cut him off. âYes, yes, I know! I promise that, from now on Iâll overthink less⌠After all, we have a big girl, donât we?â
