Recently I rewatched Kazekage rescue arc and I like this conversation of Kakashi and Chiyo, because of these some interesting things :

1. Chiyo “allergic to ninjas from other village” asks Kakashi about a trivial thing (I mean in their situation it’s hardly the time to have heart to heart) without hesitation, especially since their first meeting is not going well. Their first interaction is not going well at all, with Kakashi somehow getting mistaken as his father with only his one eye and hair visible.

Offf.. In here Chiyo used Shiroi Kiba me that is basically translated as White Fang (derogatory). Since me here is derivative of teme which is widely known as an insulting word.

2.  Although in here Kakashi became Naruto’s mouthpiece, at the same time he shows how close he watches Naruto and his behavior after 2.5 years being separated.

3.  Gaara’s status at that time is a Kazekage. Literally in the same high position as Tsunade. Temari and Kankuro called him “Gaara” is understandable because they’re his siblings, Sakura and Naruto called him “Gaara” is somewhat understandable because they are teenagers and don’t really care for formalities, Chiyo called him “Gaara” is also understandable because she’s one of Suna Elders and way on senior position than Gaara in Suna Council. But Kakashi, an outsider Jonin leader who know shinobi formality like a back of his hand called him “Gaara-kun” is baffling but also cute.

4. Chiyo suddenly opened herself and talking about her past mistakes, having some thought about maybe they way she supported Sunagakure all this time has been mistaken (isn’t it count as treasonous thoughts? She wasn’t afraid that Kakashi will tell anyone about it?), even uttering her envy for young people, a truly vulnerable  things to be admitted for an energetic grandma who just few chapter before said that she will not lose by the youngsters, while Kakashi patiently listened to her.

This is so jarring for me because it’s so weird that hardened shinobi like Chiyo let out her emotional vulnerability to a person whom moments before she thinks as her enemy. It’s as if Kakashi also has emotional power that is similar yet different with Naruto’s. Kakashi said that Naruto has mysterious power that made people instantly befriend him although he only exchanges few words. I think the reason is because Naruto wears his heart on his sleeve. People who met him can see his determination, his pure intention, and that’s why they trust him and open up to him. 

But Kakashi is like the most secretive shinobi in Naruto verse. He never said anything about himself, he has some disturbing monikers like Cold-Blooded and Friend-Killer, and he even never let other sees his face. Yet people like Chiyo and Zabuza, hardened veterans who know better than bare their weakness in front of enemy, shows their vulnerable side in front of Kakashi, somehow believes that Kakashi will not betray their trust and use that for his own gain. This Kakashi trait is mentioned in Kakashi Retsuden by Nanara’s P.O.V

Truthfully, he knew nothing about Kakashi. Even if he asks him, he is always deflecting from answering. Thinking about it now, it wouldn’t be surprising if he really was a spy sent by the capital.

However, I don’t know why, I want to trust him.

I want to follow his back. The so-called excellent leaders must be people like Kakashi.

 Yeah, thing is, people who met Kakashi, see his lanky form, unkept hair, covered face, massively secretive attitude, yet somehow feel like he’s a trustworthy and reliable person. Someone that can be depended upon. Like Chiyo, Zabuza, even the Raikage. Of course, his record as elite Jounin help him to get credence for other people, but it’s amazing that even for shinobis from other villages, Kakashi is someone who is least likely to betray them and make them feel safe enough to show vulnerability. Probably this special power also made people dump responsibility over responsibility for him despite his unwillingness XD

5. Kakashi cheered her up and uplifted her spirit, although just a day before he heard the same Chiyo scorned his father’s name with hate. I mean, forgiving is one thing, but no one ask him to be kind for someone who hates his own father, especially since his father is such a sore spot for him. But he did it anyway, made Chiyo laugh, and since that time determined to not give up, do something, and that something is to give her own life for Gaara. 

This is just after her fight with Sasori, she already thought to save Gaara.

Chiyo rememberes Kakashi’s words in her last moment, saw the proof in front of her eyes, and smiled. 

Then Kakashi, as a shinobi through and through, paid respect to Chiyo and complimented her last act as shinobi (although the whole talking about “fitting last moment for a shinobi” is too similar with teenage Kakashi’s favorite book “How a Shinobi should Die” for my comfort. Please tell me that is not your attachment for martyrdom speaking).

Bonus other Kakashi and Chiyo moments : 

Recently I dive into my country’s forum about Naruto fandom, and the most nickname-borderline-insult that I’ve encountered about Kakashi is “Bujang (Bachelor) Kakashi”. Looking at that, I can relate the pain of a 20+ years old person who had the gall to not get married and sprouting children while living in Asia. Many people in my country wondered why Kakashi didn’t get married although he’s addicted to porn. Many people also think that he is actually gay and married to Guy after Boruto episode aired (although in mocking tone, as expected from my conservative country). 

Anyway, his lack of marriage status makes fans wonder about Kakashi’s sexuality. Who does he prefer, dudes or gals? Boobs or pecs? Now because I have no better thing to do, I’ll try to compilate every time Kakashi encounters sexual situation and how he handles them. Feel free to add other things that I’ve missed!

Icha-Icha 

First Bell Test (Icha-Icha Paradise)

Ah Icha-Icha Paradise, the iconic book for Naruto (mainly Kakashi)’s fans. We got a glimpse of Kakashi’s favorite novel in full glory on the First Bell Test, when he shamelessly reads the book in front of minors (and then getting scolded by Kurenai for it).

Unbeknownst by most people, in there we got the first clue about Kakashi reading Icha-Icha book for the plot. He mainly read the book to aggravate his children further, but he can say “this book is more interesting than you guys” or something like that. But “I just want to know what happens next” is so plot-focused, and makes me wonder since when Kakashi read Icha-Icha Paradise book, because it’s the first book of the Icha-Icha series and sounds like he read it for the first time.

Yeah he indeed enjoyed and invested by the book. I am not the type to judge people by their literature preference, so I just think it’s nice that he was having fun in a job that he doesn’t even want in the first place. At least he never shows his book on his students, the only thing they can see is a man chasing a woman and adult rating symbol. 

Naruto and Kakashi first met on Shippuden (Icha Icha Violence)

Here Kakashi reads Icha-Icha Violence, he was still hooked in Icha-Icha series even after 2+ years passed. A true porn addict will spend their time read other thing as much as they can. But the only book he was interested is another addition of Icha-Icha series. Sounds like he fell in love in Icha-Icha series XD.

Naruto is someone who tried to peek at women’s bath, developed and excited by Sexy Jutsu, I wonder what kind of erotic book that made him bored. Perhaps he just dislikes reading, and we know that he was not great at digesting complicated words. 

Second Bell Test (Icha-Icha Tactic)

Not gonna lie, at the first time I watched it as 15 years old naive kid, I shouted, “Yes, finally! Do Sexy Jutsu on him! I mean, Kakashi-sensei is pervert and you knocked out Iruka, Ebisu, Jiraiya, even Third Hokage with that technique!”

But then…..

“His weakness is spoiler. He was afraid of spoiler from a porn material. What kind of pervert is that? Plus it turns out that Naruto doesn’t know the plot of Icha-Icha (on anime). What if Kakashi doesn’t believe him, keep opened his ears and eyes, and then realize that Naruto only babbling nonsense? Using Sexy Jutsu resembles Icha-Icha protagonist will have the less risk ”

Re-watching this scene again, I am amazed by the hilarious logic of Hatake Kakashi the pervert. Who genuinely reading erotic book for plot point, for believing his cute little student’s words whom he just met after 2+ years, for bravely close his ears and eyes when his cute little students came to him with the intent to attack, the cute little students that can shatter the ground and perforate water tank.

All for the sake of avoiding spoiler XD.

Decoding Jiraiya’s message (Icha-Icha tactic)

Unlike in the anime, here we know that Icha-Icha Tactics is indeed explicit, and Kakashi was legit blushed by the sexual parts of the book. So I think Kakashi is not completely asexual, considering that he’s not truly dismissive by the sexual part of the book. And the book contains sexual parts from page 7 till page 207, damn now I want to read that book XD. 

Oiroke no Jutsu (Warning Explicit Picture Ahead)

I know that in anime Kakashi once sees Konohamaru’s Oiroke no Jutsu and has nosebleed-rocket. But that segment is filler (although indeed a good one and people can freely treat it as canon if they want).

In manga though, there are 3 chance when Konohamaru uses Sexy Jutsu in front of him, and his reaction is…..

"all the important things I had forgotten as I grew up".

Despite being "surprisingly domestic" and "full of passion on the inside" like Kishimoto described him in the databooks.

Kakashi doesn't think that he deserves these things because everyone he cared about died and he blames himself for it all, how can he get close to anyone when everything he touches dies because of him? so he spent years pushing people away starting from Sakumo's death when he was just a child, his only goal was to protect his people and village and not let what happened to the people he lost happens to anyone else. So Icha Icha is so important to him because it's the only thing that makes him feel and experience the things he denied himself through the characters of the story.
