1 — simulanka now, we do see them meet for the supposed first time here, which i was incredibly joyous to see happen being into these two before this. the thing is, they already seemed to know eachother. neither of them asked eachothers names upon meeting, there were no introductions, and albedo's first direct words to him were; "to return to our previous discussion, mr. hat guy, you were telling me about a prophecy?" WHAT previous discussion was this man on about. this is the only line of dialogue that hints at them talking prior, but it's very obvious that they must have given the conversation that follows. it's a point i've personally never seen other people mention which is kind of crazy

The only thing they told us is that Albedo met "someone" and they gave him suggestions. Description? Photos?

Okay this special trip is probably to Ayato, but still, the wording is kinda vague. Special trip to see someone". How do you manage to see Scaramouche's figure in detail to make a whole ass painting, in one day if I may add? At that time Scaramouche was a fugitive of Inazuma AND Fatui.

Heck, even Traveler noted that it sounds suspicious.

Also the way he treated Kuronushi's painting is so suspicious & made me wonder if Albedo knew more than he showed us.

Possessive much okay, no, this segment probably parallels the later plot that Traveler can freely name Wanderer, but what is your understanding of Kuronushi's character that in the story you followed is parallel to Kunikuzushi?

Albedo saying that Kuronushi is behind-the-scene guy then correlating it to Kunikuzushi made total sense since Raiden Gokaden is a well-hidden sabotage plot. But Albedo, my guy, not only did you feel most satisfied with Kuronushi painting, but you also just heard the story of a guy committing mass murder, then praised a character who paralleled him as "deepest & most differing"?

Since you refuse to elaborate any of those, my dear Albedo, I'll use my own imagination as you said and happily imagine that you took the criminal Scaramouche for a meal & asked him to be your model, just like you did to other Five Kasen models.

And perhaps his observation is not agreeable to some people, perhaps you think there should be another way or angle to handle their interpersonal relationship. But DAMN in the end nothing is getting blown up (much) & his students ended up in a somewhat stable status quo. Can you blame Kakashi for being satisfied with that?

AND HE CHOSE TO OPEN IT.

He still freaking made solid strategies including 2 Bijuus and 1 taijutsu master to unravel the fact that benefits everyone to know except him. I don't know how his brain can do that, some mangas shows character getting blacked out from knowing painful truth and their journey to come into their sense (like Naruto had when learning Jiraiya's death and Sasuke when learning the truth of Uchiha massacre) yet this man was demanded to get his shit together in like one chapter. He cracked joke to Kurama less that one hour after that world-shattering moment.

they’re just coming off the total destruction of the village, where kakashi DIED

three seconds after that, he gets the news that danzo has been appointed (though not yet confirmed) as hokage

AND danzo has put out a kill order for sasuke

which makes naruto and sakura fly off the handle

which means kakashi has to rein them both in immediately because he knows danzo is looking for an excuse to lock naruto up

this whole thing puts kakashi in the position of running the show from an underground/covert position, undermining danzo’s authority in a last-ditch attempt to save sasuke

he’s already juggling a subordinate who’s working as a double agent and operating in a precarious and potentially dangerous situation (”it seems like danzo is starting to not trust sai”)

but he encourages sai to lie to danzo and then smuggles naruto out of the village and initiates a totally unsanctioned negotiation with a foreign head of state

five seconds after this, “madara uchiha” is breaking into the inn where kakashi & co. are staying and telling them that actually itachi uchiha didn’t betray the leaf; the government used him to slaughter his own clan and then covered it up for years

which kakashi can’t just take at face value because there’s literally NO proof of this and madara has every reason to want to destabilize the leaf, so they can’t do anything about it until they get the facts

but before he’s had time to process this development, sakura shows up with sai and kiba and lee and confesses that she’s in love with naruto, which kakashi instantly knows isn’t true, but he doesn’t know exactly what she’s up to

three seconds after she leaves, sai’s clone appears with more info and kakashi realizes that sakura has decided to take down sasuke herself (which is absolutely going to result in her getting killed) and she’s on her way to confront him right now

before they’re even done with this discussion, the kazekage and his attendants show up and drop the enormous bomb that danzo has a stolen, implanted sharingan hidden under his bandages and tried to manipulate the entire kage summit in his favor before fleeing

oh, and the reason he fled was because sasuke crashed the summit and tore the entire building down after killing a contingent of samurai and attacking every kage in attendance

after which madara uchiha appeared and declared the start of the fourth great ninja war

and since danzo ran away and isn’t considered to be trustworthy anymore, the other four nations decided that KAKASHI will act as the hokage instead

and before kakashi can process THAT, naruto keels over and passes out in the snow

and at his point it’s like - what the hell does he do?  where does he start?  the leaf village has been obliterated.  its people are sleeping on the ground.  the fourth great ninja war has just been declared.  an unprecedented alliance is forming between the five great nations and kakashi is suddenly supposed to be in charge of one of them, but one of his kids is unconscious, one of them is currently going on a murder spree, and the other one is at this very moment on her way to kill the murder-spree one, who is most definitely going to end up killing her instead.  oh and also they may have just stumbled upon a massive conspiracy wherein the leaf’s government sanctioned the massacre of its own people and lied about it for years, but kakashi can’t responsibly act on this information until he gets proof, because the person who told him about it is also the person who just declared war on them all and who therefore has every reason to lie, but when and how is kakashi supposed to obtain this proof when seven other immediate crises are blowing up at the same exact time?

he never has a second to breathe before something new and even more out-of-control happens.  and as much as i hate to see him overburdened, there is something so compelling about watching him lead, watching everyone turn to him for direction, watching him deliberately undermine a false hokage who doesn’t deserve to wear the hat, watching danzo’s own current and former subordinates align themselves with kakashi in defiance of the man who kept them both captive, watching kage from other nations choose kakashi unanimously and without hesitation, particularly when their selection of him is simultaneously a rejection of danzo, which is SO symbolically powerful for so many reasons.

it’s also equally compelling to me that kakashi, confronted with all these competing and urgent demands, ultimately chooses to try and save his kids first.

the shadow of the heroic yet tragic dad haunts the son

and that instilled deep fear and helplessness inside their little heart

I REALLY wonder what Kakashi was thinking when looking at Inari. Did he recall his past self? The massive admiration and adoration turned into fear. Not only fear for himself, but also fear for anyone in front of his eyes turned into the tragic father. He knew Inari was not just being whiny. He knew that in a twisted way, Inari means well. Inari was afraid for Naruto & the gang, afraid that by facing Gato, they would die tragically like his dad. He knew the anger and frustration because looking at them why aren't they afraid? Why do they act so recklessly while I deeply feel scared? Me, the son of a great hero.

They must be just so stupid. They just don't understand.

I think that's why Kakashi looked out to sit by the side of curling Inari. To calm the boy's heart, persuade him to let go of his fear, to accept the help of a new hero.

Before it was too late.

Madara!Obito went ham on his own freestyle interpretation about Madara and Hashirama's relationship and at this point Madara perhaps will rise from the dead on his own because hey! Madara never EVER hated Hashirama!

Kakashi canonly figured there's disconnection between his action and his spoken motivation but I wonder how long he will keep his denial if the real Hashirama and Madara were there to call for his bullshit.

i don't mind at all, but i do disagree with you on a few points

for starters, one thing to keep in mind when reading naruto is that the original manga isn't written in english, so the wordplay that a native english speaker might respond with may simply not make any sense in context of what's actually being said. for example, we calling the game hashirama and madara played as children "skipping stones" but in japanese it's called "mizugiri", meaning "water-cutting"

from what little i've read in japanese, how tobito refers to hashirama during the summit is pretty normal. it may be a way to increase dramatic tension, i'm not sure. however, more importantly, it should be noted that japanese word order is different from english word order - i don't have the raw of that scene in particular, but i imagine he starts off by saying "the first hokage" and then changes to "hashirama" before any other words really pop up in the sentence. it sounds polite and a little awkward in english bc there's not always a solid way to translate things, but i guarantee you he is not using keigo to talk to the five kage.

tsunade never met madara, he likely died (the first time) before she was born. when their fight first begins in volume 61 (chapter 576; it's the first chapter of the volume so you should be able to see this part on s-manga), madara asks tsunade if she's related to hashirama ("the medical ninjutsu woman over there... you've got this guy's blood, huh?" (he points at the hashitiddy while he's talking it's so fucking funny)). in fact, both madara and tsunade refer to tsunade as hashirama's "descendant" (子孫 (shison) rather than 孫 (mago, grandchild) or 孫娘 (magomusume, granddaughter)) while they talk, so it's possible he doesn't ever learn what their exact connection is (it's possible this is not the case in volume 62/63 but i don't own those two yet)

also. obito is not polite. i'm sorry he just isn't. he's politer with minato than he is with kakashi, but he's still not like. polite.

it's pretty common for naruto boys to speak fairly casually with their teachers and all but. you aren't supposed to address social superiors like this. a polite person would've said 何がありましたか to their teacher instead

again he's much less polite with kakashi bc they're peers. he follows the sasuke school of talking wayyyy too casually to people he's supposed to be more respectful towards (tho obito at least uses honorifics; sasuke just straight-up calls kakashi "kakashi" bc sasuke does not give a single flying FUCK. they do both use anta for people who are older than them tho)

(do NOT talk to your teachers like obito. talk to your teachers like lee. 先生と話すなら、敬語を使え！「ください」や「～ます」って言えよ！失礼のないようにしろ！サスケのように先生と話せば、まっすぐ地獄に落ちる！千年地獄だよ！)

concerning obito's interpretation of whatever was happening between hashirama and madara, one thing we need to be aware of is that we're filtering through a minimum of two layers of bullshit here - first being that obito got most of what he knows about madara's life from madara who was not necessarily being honest with him (in part bc he wanted obito to play the role of madara as the world saw him rather than who madara actually was as a person) and the second being that obito is perfectly willing to say things he knows to be flat-out false if it suits his current agenda (such as telling sasuke that he didn't sic the kyuubi on konoha, which we know to be complete horseshit)

as for whether or not madara ever actually hated hashirama... that's honestly very difficult to figure out bc madara simply is not big on sharing anything ever. but again, obito isn't trying to act as the madara who really existed and was an actual person with depth and shit, he's playing the role of madara as perceived by the world (or maybe how the true madara felt that he was perceived, with questionable amounts of overlap). i don't think hashirama ever stopped being deeply important to madara as both a friend and a rival, but i also think it's entirely plausible that madara held something akin to hatred for him as well, and it's not at all hard to understand why - obito's line up there about being his rival, admiring him, and hating him is imo something that likely came from madara himself.

the real madara would not have called obito on his bs bc that was also madara's bs (tho if madara is there there's really no need for obito to keep playing that role.... which happens in canon. madara's biggest criticism of obito seemed to be "ok but this was seems kinda unnecessary. eh w/e i'm sure he had a good reason")

Second, I will shamefully admit that some of the things I said in that post are exaggerated jokes which I hope no one take serious 🙏 Like, I myself don't believe that Obito is truly the pinnacle of politeness, even his kind young version. I am making dig on zetsu claim that Tobi is a good boy combined with despite him portraying as Madara, Hashirama's close friend, there are subtle hints that Obito talked about Hashirama more awkwardly like someone who knew the guy from second-hand source and textbook rather than knowing Hashirama personally. For example, this panel :

This dialogue is supposed to be a personal reminiscence full of emotion and memories, yet using "The First Hokage" is for me a weird choice to use by close friend (lemme know if I am wrong and Obito used "Hashirama" instead in the raw). Compared with how the real Madara spoke about random fact about Hashirama, using his name straightforwardly, in front of a random Konoha citizen boy from years after Hashirama's death.

Like, re-reading manga after the reveal is so cool to me because with this discrepancy I can notice which "Madara" truly knew Hashirama personally and which "Madara" sounds like parroting details that he learned. From the "Year of Kakashi" fiasco I know that despite some fans called it retcon, Tobito plot twist was planned by Kishimoto since the beginning but I am amazed with how Kishimoto sprinkle some hints while writing dialogue for two people that was claimed to be one person for years. But perhaps I am just over-analyzing.

When it comes to Madara's feeling to Hashirama, this is my personal opinion of course, but for me Madara weirdly had no display of any hurt feeling toward Hashirama. Like, we know that Obito didn't blame Kakashi for Rin's death, but by his bitter tone, and the beating to Kakashi, it's clear that the fact that Rin was dead in Kakashi's hand HURT him immensely and he briefly showed it to Kakashi. Naruto cried on VOTE1 when he knew that Sasuke seriously tried to kill him. But Madara greeted Hashirama on 4th Shinobi War with no hard feeling despite their last memory together is Hashirama stabbing Madara in the back. Like, again it's my personal take but I truly don't think that there's complicated feeling or admiration layered with bitterness in Madara like it exists in Obito, or even some in Naruto and Sasuke. But yeah I agree with you that despite my joke I also don't think that Madara will correct Obito about this, they were comrades heading toward delusional land together 🤣

As for "skipping stones" symbolism, I got influenced by my own language hehe, because in my area you call two people who can't agree with each other especially if one is rigid and the other is flexible/casual as "Rock and Water". I think it's more appropriate symbolism for Kakashi and Obito while "Oil and Water" is more appropriate symbolism for Hashirama and Madara (because one is fuel for fire and one is fuel for plant). Hencewhy I am making jokes about their dynamic symbolism contrasting with Madara and Hashirama's history with "rock and water" plus Obito's habit to use "oil and water" phrase on his childhood days, when he pretended to be Madara, and even after his death. Now I see how that joke can be confusing 🙏
