You weren't even sure how you had somehow ended up on the couch. Usually you stuck to your bedroom, Billy was always awkward around your parents. Despite the charming smile and velvet words that often fell from his lips, he always got tongue tied around them. Perhaps you were on the couch because they were away for the weekend and Billy had surprised you with pizza, a case of beer and your favourite horror movies.

One that was currently playing on the television. Though the pizza long forgotten and Billy on the couch next to you. Shuffling awkwardly and stiffling a yawn, attempting to get comfortable.

'Come here.' You order, patting your lap.

Billy staring at you, almost like he was afraid of being so close to you. Despite the things you did in the dead of night to each other. You pat your lap again and he finally relents, laying down and gently placing his head in your lap.

Smiling down at him as you begin running a hand through his messy curls. Smiling when you feel him let out a sigh of contentment, his body finally relaxing as you continued to run your hand through his hair. You can feel his body relaxing even more beneath your tender touch.

'Mmm- love you.' Your hand freezing in his hair at the words. You wondered if Billy had ever uttered those words aloud to someone before. You hear his deep breathing, indicating that he had drifted off to sleep.

'You too, Hargrove.' You finally replied.

“actually,” billy cut in, casually twisting the sides of a rubix cube up and down without looking up, “it was reforged in fellowship of the ring. aragon carries it throughout the journey.”

mike’s mouth hung open. lucas and will blinked in disbelief at one other. dustin froze, pringles tube mid air. even el tilted her head.

“YOU... read tolkien?” dustin whispered, somewhere between awe and mild betrayal.

billy shrugged like he’d just commented on the weather. “what? guy’s prose is tight. andúril literally means ‘flame of the west’. pretty badass.”

max, leaning against the counter with a juice box, rolled her eyes so hard you could practically hear them orbit. “he read the silmarillion for fun last summer. get over it.”

steve, standing off to the side, tried and failed to hide the proud grin stretching across his face. “my man,” nudging billy’s shoulder.
