Half year check in for my reading goals
I already read 32 books by 01st July, I am doing very well on my pages goal and I am also on track with my listening goal.
Reread challenge: also right on schedule. It is great fun, I confirmed some 4 and 5-star reads but sadly found one book that did not hold up.
Books read off my physical tbr : There's definitely room for improvement here, as I only read one (and disliked it) and started two more, which I am still not even halfway through.
Mid Year Book Freakout Tag 2026
Thank you for tagging me @books-are-portals @books-coffee-and-the-woods and @clockwork118
Number of books you’ve read so far: 33 as of Thursday.
Best book you’ve read so far in 2026: Of the books that were not re-reads or sequels, that would be Nine Goblins by T. Kingfisher
Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2026: A Trade of Blood by Robert Jackson Bennett and The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater (I have been tagged several times, so I can answer with two books, right?)
New release you haven’t read yet but want to: I have an ARC for A Snake Among Swans and should read that pretty soon before it expires.
Most anticipated release for the second half of the year: I cannot think of a proper new release, but I am looking forward to the deluxe edition of Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir and the special edition of The Burning God by R.F. Kuang.
Biggest surprise favourite new author (debut or new to you): I read some great books by authors I had not read before, but as it was always only one book and I had not yet picked up any other book by that author because it was not of interest to me, I cannot say that I discovered a new favourite author. Of all the authors, I think Robert Harris is the one whose other books I will most likely pick up.
Newest fictional crush: Maybe Sings-to-trees from Nine Goblins.
Book that made you cry: The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman.
Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received): I bought several beautiful, special editions such as the (horrendously expensive) The Martin deluxe edition. I will also pick up the deluxe edition of Project Hail Mary (so glad I did not buy these books earlier but got them from the library!) and A Trade of Blood. The Shadow of the Leviathan books are also so beautiful.
Book that made you happy: Howl's Moving Castle by Dianna W. Jones and the Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater because all these books still were outstanding upon rereading.
What books do you need to read by the end of the year? I would really like to get to some of the books from my physical tbr. Actually, I should really read Faithbreaker by Hannah Kaner before I forget all the characters.
I tag: @the-forest-library @elizas-mapbook @readwithabulletproofheart and @more-better-words
The AIDS Memorial Quilt in Washington DC (USA) in 1996. Photo source: AIDS Memorial Quilt social media.
The AIDS Memorial Quilt was started in 1987 in the USA to show all the lives that were lost to AIDS representing them humanely and not just as a statistic. It was nominated to the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989. The idea spread to other countries, and it was also done here in Catalonia starting in 1993.
An event with the local AIDS Memorial Quilt in Barcelona (Catalonia) in the 1990s.
Other parts of the quilt. Photos from Catalonia History Museum.
The AIDS Memorial Quilt is present in over 40 countries, where about 100,000 tapestries have been made to commemorate loved ones who died due to this illness. It is the largest piece of community folk art in the world.
The Quilt has the objective of keeping alive the memory of the people who died of AIDS, but it also has an educational purpose, showing the diversity of people who were affected by it. AIDS was an extremely stigmatised illness because of its association to gay men, drug users, and prostitutes (even though it affected -and still affects- other people, too), that led to some religious leaders and conservative politicians to state that it was divine punishment and that nothing should be done to help the ill people. People with AIDS, their friends and family, and the queer community as a whole had to fight just to be treated like other ill people would.
Nowadays, it is known that the most important tool to not get or spread HIV is to be protected during sex and not share needles. If a person catches HIV, it can be treated with medication that slows down the virus from developing into AIDS so much that it extends the life expectancy to a standard level, so a person can have a normal life while being HIV-positive. For this, it's important to be tested to find it early. For this reason, the people most affected by AIDS in the present are people from countries with little medical resources, with the highest death rates in Africa.
In 2017, the Catalan AIDS Memorial Quilt was donated to the Catalonia History Museum. On World AIDS Day (December 1st) part of it is lent to the Government of Catalonia and the Barcelona City Hall to hang it from the balconies, and it's also exhibited in other occasions.
Mid Year Book Freakout Tag 2026
Thank you for the tag @howlsmovinglibrary! <3
Number of books you’ve read so far: 29! Which is a surprisingly high number given that I scrambled to finish my degree and started a new job this spring. And also shows that I have been reading even though I haven't posted pics here in ages (due to the aformentioned degree and job).
Best book you’ve read so far in 2026: The Word for World is Forest by Ursula K. Le Guin. Please read Ursula K. Le Guin. She is everything.
Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2026: Silverborn by Jessica Townsend, book 4 in the Morrigan Crow series (middle grade). The best kind of children's lit i.e. it doesn't think its target audience is stupid.
New release you haven’t read yet but want to: The Republic of Memory by Mahmoud El Sayed and Green City Wars by Adrian Tchaikovsky.
Most anticipated release for the second half of the year: I'm really not that up-to-date with what's coming out later this year but uhhh Daggerheart by T. Kingfisher maybe? Swordheart was fun.
Biggest surprise favorite new author (debut or new to you): Emily Tesh! I read Silver in the Wood and The Drowned Country by her and both were lovely. I'm definitely gonna try out her other books as well.
Newest fictional crush: I don't think I have any at the moment.
Book that made you cry: It's not a Cult by Joey Batey. The interactions the narrator had with their granny hit home Hard.
Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received): I bought a bunch of C. J. Cherryh's books second-hand and they're old mass market paperbacks with the old-school artwork covers and lads, they don't make 'em like they used to. Beautiful.
Book that made you happy: Many such cases but the first one that comes to mind is Light and Thread by Han Kang. It had a hopeful note to it, somehow.
What books do you need to read by the end of the year?
The 2026 Ursula K. Le Guin Award shortlist (I will at least try out all of them before October 21st)
As many of the unread books from my shelves as I'll manage, such as:
The Riddle-Master's Game by Patricia A. McKillip
Kesuura by Marisha Rasi-Koskinen
Days of Shattered Faith by Adrian Tchaikovsky
The Saint of Bright Doors by Vajra Chandrasekera
Keskusteluja kukkasten kanssa by Siiri Enoranta

Thank you @books-are-portals for tagging me
Number of books you read so far: 42 books
Best book you read so far in 2026: The fifth season by J.K. Jemisin was amazing. One of the few books I regret not having read earlier.
Best sequel you read so far in 2026:A Trade of Blood by Robert Jackson Bennet. The Shadow of the Leviathan Series are all five star books for me.
New release you haven't read yet but want to: This year I have not been tracking new releases so I honestly can't say. The only book I currently have pre-ordered is Daggerbound by Kingfisher
Most anticipated release for the second half of the year: See my last answer.
Biggest suprise favourite new author (debut or new to you) I really enjoyed This Kingdom will not Kill me by Ilona Andrews. I will be looking into the other books from this writing team.
Newest fictional crush: Nope, don't have those
Book that made you cry: Mein Nachbar Yokai 2 was really beautiful and these books always make me emotional.
Most beautiful book you bought this year (or received): I bought the Collectors Edition of The Dragon Republic by R.F. Kuang for @bibliophilecats The illustrations are so great.
Book that made you happy: Die Magie goldgewebter Herzen by Eleanor Bardilac was such a sweet Lovestory. Since I don't like romance a romance book getting 5 stars is really special

"I’d rather experience the zombie apocalypse than continue reading this book."
"Throughout the second half of the book, all I could think was DUDE, I WOULD'VE CHEATED ON YOU TOO."

I've been working on FPP quilted wall hangings now! This one is the Winter Cardinal pattern by Quiet Play, who was recommended by @creations-by-chaosfay and yeah. I understand the hype, these patterns are FANTASTIC. Super cute and easy to work with! (I've also made the texas one, which i love, but that one didnt turn out as well so I'm gonna make another one before posting it anywhere lol.) It measures about 10x10 inches.
I have a christmas-in-july market coming up so I'm hoping to get some things made up to maybe offer there. This one looks a lil bit like a giant potholder but I'm hoping the visible dowel rod dampens that effect a little bit ^^' At least the cardinal turned out cute!
i hate eating food in the summer. why are you making me do this. i should be able to pull a reverse bear gambit where i eat a lot of nutrients all winter and fall and spring and then i sleep all summer. alternately if it's hot outside i should be able to survive comfortably by eating fruit and lettuces and perhaps sometimes ice cream. there should be NO physical consequences for doing this when it's above, like, 65F or 18C.
aestivation. they should let me aestivate. in the manner of certain tortoises.
Heat Wave. 🫠
Read this month: June 20206
[no photo, as there is only one physical book]
A. Lindgren - Ferien auf Saltkrokan
R. Jackson Bennett - A Trade of Blood (eARC)
I. Andrews - This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me (library ebook)
Due to the extended, hellish heatwave at the end of the month, my reading was massively reduced. But on the other hand, I enjoyed all three books enormously - and they were all quite different to (from?) each other (and I dnf'ed those I did not like quickly).
