it’s a slowburn

This is less about Buddie and mainly about Eddie.

But, imagine it's a telenovela set and one of the recent storylines is the main character hooking up with the love of his life's twin sister. You know, to parallel the Kim storyline. Similarly to Ryan, the leading actor hates this storyline, and keeps pulling alarms, or getting injured and whatnot, so the 118 come to help. This prompts Eddie to check in on the actor, excited because he knows the show.

After the few times they met in these encounters, the two start to gossip about the show, and Eddie finds out why this actor keeps getting hurt "accidentally". It causes all this kerfuffle, and the 118 have to leave, but Eddie gets the actor's number.

When the guy finds out about Eddie's history, they go into depth about it, why it was such a terrible mistake, and just the whole agony of losing his son after. It affirms what the actor suspected, and he tries to go to the writers and directors about it, saying that he is uncomfortable with the story and wants the episode to change.

When discussing how to change the story, it becomes apparent that the actor is queer, but nobody knows. He makes a joke about his character having secret feelings for his best friend and comic relief character for the show. Making a point to say the actor is cute.

This makes Eddie spiral, and he ends up watching the whole show again, trying to find the parts he missed, because "what do you mean they should be together. The character is a straight man."

Just as the best friend character shows up on screen though, Buck ends up walking in, and it's like an aha moment. And Eddie blue screens.

He rapidly turns off the TV and is incredibly embarrassed to have had Buck catch him. Buck laughs it off and continues on about what they should have for dinner.

Hen’s like, you’re not meant to actually meet the people on your hall pass list. It’s a fantasy! And now Karen is meeting this hot lady cosmology professor. What if they get talking? What if it goes well? Do I really have to be ok with it? Should I be? Am I a hypocrite! Etc etc. (ofc nothing happens with Karen and the prof. They might chat at the conference and Karen might get a bit starry eyed, but it’s all professional.)

Buck is like, it’s fine, having someone you know on your hall pass list is nbd. And Hen, in all her stress, is perhaps less circumspect than she’d usually be, so she’s like, oh, you have someone on your hall pass list you actually know, do you?

And Buck, unconsciously, looks over at Eddie quickly, and then goes… uh, well I’m single rn, so I don’t have a hall pass list. And he’s very proud of himself for cleverly dodging this bullet, because he doesn’t realise how incredibly obvious he’s just been.

Missing the other half of him! Look at that pout! 😂
