i HATE self-censorship for a lot of reasons, but being in crisis work makes it even more frustrating. who are you censoring for? like i am being so fr, WHO are you censoring for? have you even thought it through? people who have been raped know that they have been raped. if someone attempts suicide or is grieving someone who did, saying "sewer slide" isn't going to protect them from any of the feelings. a murder victim's family isn't going to feel better bc you said "unalived" instead of murdered. if anything, it's just extremely invalidating and othering. it's saying "what happened to you is so bad that i won't even say the word," which is NOT trauma-informed care. you are not protecting survivors/victims when you self-censor. the ONLY things you protect when you self-censor are the puritanical ideologies that are being encouraged by rich fascists who want your money and obedience

What's the first "big news story" you remember from when you were a kid?

It's something I love to ask mixed-aged groups sometimes because I think it's really interesting to see the responses. I've gotten answers from the Olympics of [whatever year] to Watergate to more recent stuff from my niblings.

We’ve seen James be timid and unsure talking to Elizabeth, not women in general. And that was when he had his heart in his hands, hoping she’d accept his proposal. Later on in the series, all timidity vanishes. He has an almost familiar ease around her (leaning back casually on the gunwale as he talks to her, sharing side-eyes and asides with her, etc). And even when he regains his commission, he isn’t timid around Elizabeth when they reunite. For the first (and only- oof) time in the series, he embraces her.

And James isn’t timid with anyone else in the series either. He’s commanding, sarcastic, ambitious, self-assured, acerbic, even violent. He’s a man of action and duty and conviction. Surely it isn’t too difficult to see how to some viewers, that would translate over in his temperament as a lover.

but James not only comes to her rescue, he upholds his offer when Elizabeth accepts and even then, his concern isn’t that she’s been despoiled, but that her heart may yet belong to another.

once she assures him that she wants to be with him (’you’re a fine man, James’), he’s visibly HAPPY. further proving that this was never about status or social capital for James

James Norrington was born in 1700. Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann were born in 1708. And Jack Sparrow was born in 1690.

Thus, James is 8 years older than Elizabeth. Will is her same age. And Jack is 18 years older than her.

1728 is when Curse of the Black Pearl takes place. Meaning Elizabeth is 20 years old when James proposes to her at 28.

Which is the exact same ages of and age difference between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice.
