She was lying down on her bed, scrolling aimlessly through her phone, looking at the zine. Though she hated, she always checked it, out of fear that she was next. When she saw her name at the top, next toĀ āEXPOSEDā her heart raced. Nononononono. This couldnāt be happening, she though. But there it was. And as she clamped a hand to her mouth and read through the post, she realized that they had revealed everything. Not just that she was sick, but dying.
Angry and upset, she tossed her phone on the bed and stood up, arms crossed. She bit her lip, hard. Who the hell would want to ruin her life like this? She was supposed to get about a year to figure things out and live life to the fullest. Now, she wasnāt Sloane Larson anymore. She was the cancer patient. The sick girl. And it made her so, so angry.
She sat down again, her head in her hands. Her whole body was shaking, and she could feel heat radiating up inside her. When she heard a footstep entering her room, she turned away from the figure.Ā āJust go away,ā She shook her head, trying not to cry.Ā āWhoever you are, just please, please, go away. I donāt need your pity.ā
Bennett cautiously took a step into Sloane's room, stopping when he heard her voice her requests. He dropped his head, eyes glued to the ground, leaning his body against the frame of her door.
He was clueless on what to say, or even how to feel. Of course, the dominant emotion coursing through him was pity, but underneath it there was a lot of confusion. Why did she keep it from him? On the way over, he had been racking his brain, trying to understand why she would hide it. He figured it would be easier to just ask her, but that was proving to be false.
"I'm not here to pity you," he answered softly, eyes roaming back up to look at her. "I just wanna talk."

I remember you said you liked pineapple.ā He shrugged a shoulder casually, turning to look at her with a grin. āI donāt really, so I got half and half.ā After a moment, his eyes widened as he remembered something, and he gestured to a closed cabinet sitting by his television. āI, um, have a lotta movies, if you wanted to watch something.ā
āThere goes another text from a boy named Bill. Iām being harassed into joining his study group. Whatās a polite way to tell him he looks like Hannibal Lecter and I fear heāll harvest my organs?ā

As Violet found her way into his bedroom she couldnāt help but smile at the small piles of clutter that surrounded his nightstands and dresser. She grazed her finger tips over some of the items as she slowly found her way into his bathroom. Instantly she groaned at her reflection, running her hands through her tangled curls as she tried to make sense of the mess. Once she was as close to satisfied as she would ever get, Violet ripped off her restraining costume. She shrugged at the mess before reaching down and grabbing one of Bennettās t-shirts and throwing it on.Ā āWhy havenāt I ever seen you wear this shirt before?ā Violet questioned as she made her way out into the hall.Ā āI like it.ā She stated, flashing Bennett a smirk as she found her way onto the couch.Ā
Bennett had just sent in the pizza order and flipped on the TV when Violet came around the corner and plopped down on the couch next to him. He turned to ask her what she wanted to watch, but no words came out, mouth hanging agape.Ā Seeing her in his shirt made him feel something he couldn't quite describe. He averted his eyes quickly, trying to ignore the thumping in his chest. "It's too small for me," he replied, looking down at the coffee table. "You can keep it, if you want."Ā
