AHHHHH THANKS FOR GIVING ME THIS OPPORTUNITY

So in THIS GIF:

This is the moment he realizes that she’s alive, that it WORKED, so it’s a moment of release and relief and you can see him exhale but I also think there’s a touch of sadness in it as he knows what it all means for him but it’s still subordinated to the relief which is his number #1 feeling. THE LAYERS OF THIS MOMENT. Where IS THE OSCAR WHERE IS IT???

And then this one

This is one of my TOP THREE Ridley acting moments!! Daisy is SO good and consistently underrated because she’s opposite Adam but I think they’re perfectly matched. The JOURNEY she goes on, the way she plays each micro moment as so slow almost?? each beat is distinct—the blank stare, the register of who it is, the surprise, the sudden EAGERNESS, the rising. AHHH. And then.

MAYBE MY FAVORITE RIDLEY FACE MOMENT (tied between this and The Glance on Exegoll you’ve spoken about so beautifully when she sees that it’s him and her face goes all soft and sweet and grave, okay that MIGHT be number one?? but that’s a meta for another time)

The surprise!!! The slight smile!!!! The way she’s still separated from him in terms of distance!! The old distance that she’s always had to maintain!!! But the way she’s looking at him and how it’s almost pulling her towards him!! How you know that distance is going to melt away in a minute because her eyes are so warm and curious and appraising and quietly stunned and happy but also matter-of-fact and it’s SO much. This IS Rey to me, the most Rey and it makes me cry.

This is also why even though I kinda wanted Rey to hug him at first it’s actually perfect that she kisses him instead because she has a minute to process—I also ADORE that moment where her face goes perfectly blank and serious and wide-eyed and then her smile breaks through that like the sun and she says “Ben” but another time etc.—and of course the first thing she would do to bridge that distance would be to kiss him, of COURSE!!! Rey would never do anything else!!!!
