Summary:
El runs and she keeps running until sheβs about as far away from home as she figures she can get. And as the years go by, she manages to carve out a peaceful sort of existence. Itβs not a happy life, but sheβs content with the knowledge that the loved ones she left behind are safe and happy.
But while Mikeβs safe, heβs not happy, not by a long shot. Heβs living a half-life, living under the shadow of the love he lostβ¦ of the love he knows is still out there, somewhere, waiting for him to find her.
And when Mike finally has enough of surviving without living and embarks on an aimless journey to find her, El knows her days of isolation are behind her. Because the longer Mike tries to search for her, the more attention he brings to himself and the more likely heβll put himself in danger. So she leaves a trail of breadcrumbs to guide him to her, as always willing to do anything to keep him safe.
And when they reunite in the sleepy village El has learned to call home, theyβll learn if they can move past the shadow of the history they shareβ¦ and if they can rediscover the love that once shone brighter than the sun.
βGood morning,β she says, still a touch breathless and Mike decides that he maybe likes that a little too much for his own good.
Still doesnβt stop him from smiling down at her like a fool, full of post-coital dopeyness. βIt is a good morning, isnβt it?β
βMmm, very,β El says as her fingers play with the fine hairs at the nape of his neck. The feel of her touch dancing along his skin makes him shiver and it unbalances him enough that Mike has to roll off of her. But he makes up for it by curling his arm around her waist as he pulls her into him so that her shoulder is pressed against the center of his chest and he can hook his knee over hers.
βI think I could get used to this, mornings with you,β Mike says. He gives her hip a generous squeeze while his mouth ghosts a kiss across the tip of her cheekbone.
βEvery morning should be like this,β El says.
