Hello! I’m rereading order of operations and just noticed the promise of a part 5? Is that old and I just missed it on my last read through? Or are we still getting more? Regardless your stories are fantastic, I’m in my second read through of…everything Bucky and Darcy lol
Hi!
A second read through! I am beyond flattered. Candidly, the idea that anyone gets excited about these stories except me is still surreal, so an ask about a 5th part is astounding and incredibly wonderful!
The short answer is: yes!
The long answer is: I am human and have an unfinished document on my computer with 84,000 words (that's not a typo) in it that prove plans don't always work out the way we want them to.
That said, Dead Reckoning sat on a shelf for 2 years unfinished with a word count over 55k before I picked it back up and finished it so I haven't given up hope and, as my long suffering beta @noxnthea can attest, I have repeatedly reread the whole thing and told her that I'm updating the outline and this time I'm definitely going to finish it, so the odds are in my favor I'll be right one of these days.
Sometimes you just lose your muse for a bit. Sometimes you get a little depressed. Sometimes you have to focus on other parts of life.
I have no doubt there is a legion of other writers out there, both hobby and professional, who can jump in here and confirm this is all part of the process.
This was more of an answer than you asked for, but I'll say this: you asking got me to open the document for the first time in 2 months, so that's progress.
The larger point, which you did not ask for, is that you asking means a lot and the act of asking - the proof that these stories mean something to others - is a HUGE deal and a massive motivation. So I appreciate you taking the time to post the question and suffer through this nonsense reply.
Thank you!
Hi 👋🏻 I’m new here! Do you have any recommendations for Wintershock fics? Yours were among the first I ever read and got me hooked!
Hi! What an amazing thing to say. I'm so flattered and honored that you loved my fics first and want some recs for more things to read. I have so many stories I love in the fandom it's hard to choose only a few, but these are a few of the ones I absolutely LOVE.
Pulling Me Under by Anogete, (E) I probably reread this once a year. It's the opposite of a slow burn, and once you read it, you'll definitely see how much of an influence this version of Bucky had on me. I consider this story the definition of Darcy Lewis being a BAMF. I'll also note that I'm only including one rec by Anogete in this list, but almost anything by her is worth reading. She's amazing!
Fearsome Critters and Where (Not) to Find Them by Voicedimplosives, (E) This is the first fic in the Critterverse. Darcy takes the Winter Soldier on a merry chase while looking for famous cryptids all over the country. They discover some romance and action along the way. I love the way Bucky discovers himself while trying to figure out what Darcy is up to. I also love the absolutely outrageous premise! It is generally a great time! Never lets me down!
Will You Greet Her With a Knife by danger_floof, (E) A classic tower story where Darcy keeps running into a mostly recovered Bucky hiding right under the Avengers' noses in the safe rooms. She also keeps making out with him. Absolutely hilarious. And hot.
Breaking (Saving) You by Rainne (M) This is the first one in a complete AU soulmate series. It kicks off with Darcy meeting the Winter Soldier at 13 and finding out he's her soulmate - Hydra kidnaps her and decides to train her as a Widow at the Red Room. The story and series proceed from there. It's a long read, and mind the tags because for a long time they're both not entirely themselves, but I think the author does a good job handling the age difference and consent. I really enjoy the detailed exploration of such a unique AU and it's beautifully written.
Queen of Wonderland by Queenspuppet (E) Darcy Lewis can open the door to wonderland, and that means she's in for a wild ride. She decides to take everyone with her. The writing in this is just gorgeous, the characterizations are lovely, and it's one of those stories that I read a long time ago but still think about randomly from time to time. It sticks with you. It's got staying power. It's also got a scene with an orgy field. So, be prepared.
We'll Meet Again (Don't Know Where, Don't Know When) by Chellacat, JamesBestGirl (M) This is an A/B/0, time travel, soulmate AU. It is also the only fic with the incredible honor of holding a top spot in both the Wintershock tag AND the Grey's Anatomy tag (seriously!). I love this fic. Darcy goes back in time and meets her mate in the 1940s before he ships out. Then there's an absolutely wild turn of events, crossovers take place! These authors don't mess around. It's nuts, but just a lot of fun!
I'm going to end with a fic that isn't technically Wintershock, but I think is hilarious and is worth a read. I am a huge crackfic reader and lover. There's a lot of great stuff out there, but this is one of my favorites! MARRY, FUCK, KILL by sevenfoxes Enjoy Darcy hosting a SHIELD-wide game of marry, fuck, kill - the consequences are hilarious!!
I hope you enjoy these! If you want more, feel free to ask!
Fanbind: ready or not by @bekala
This is the first of my @fanartfrenzy fanbinds, and fills the "create art for an AU" square. (There should be a second finished bind by the end of the week.)
@bekala (Beckala on AO3) is my absolute favorite Wintershock author; every one of her Bucky/Darcy stories brims over with love and humor and action. ready or not is one of her more recent stories and the perfect size for a quarto. It’s a rock star AU that takes place at Radio City Music Hall, so I incorporated musical notes in the endpapers as well as the scene breaks. I also had a little bit of fun with the chapter headings and I really like how they turned out.
Because I also like trying new things with every bind, this was also one of my first attempts at doing headbands and endbands.
I picked the cover paper because (a) I like the color and (b) it looks a little Art Decco-y to me, and since Bucky and Darcy spend the entire story running around Radio City Music Hall and breaking into the Secret Apartment (which is Art Decco to the max), that felt thematically correct. The title and author are printed on regular cream paper, and then I ripped around them for no other reason than it just looked interesting. Like a paper ticket ripped in two when you go into the theater. Yeah, that sounds good, that’s what I was thinking, yup.
The only thing I would change is that I fucked up the final press, and somehow the book shifted and is now a little skewed. Gah. But I’ve been brainstorming how to prevent that from happening in the future, so we’ll see if that works for the book I’m casing in later today.
(But look at that nice smooth trimmed textblock. Nice, huh? Oh yeah.)
Bekala asked for the doc file, so I’m looking forward to seeing what changes she makes and how she ends up binding her copy; this one is staying with me.
Look! @azriona took words I wrote and made them into a book! Look at it!
It’s beautiful and I am so honored. 💜💜💜

It is fun to learn.
Yeah, there's major shipping lanes either side of the wreck, and if it blows the town of Sheerness will be destroyed - if not from th eblast directly then from the tsunami
While everyone's losing their minds over this, something to point out. Large swathes of Europe hold an unknown quantity of unexploded ordinance. Seriously, we don't know where it all is, because there's no way to reliably know how much of it there is. Parts of France and Belgium turn up materiel every single plowing season, including possibly live ordinance. About ten, fifteen years ago, a mortar was found under my brother's school that had been there since the forties. This stuff is all over the place.
So we get on with it and try not to worry about it, because there's not much you can do.

Most infuriating part of writing is having an idea and thinking oh, this is gonna be so good and wanting to IMMEDIATELY share the vision with other people because it's gonna be good but then you start writing it down and - it is gonna be good. Except. It is also gonna take so, so, so long to finish. And in the meantime. You are the only one with The Vision. Alone. Losing your mind. 😭
Useful if this is how you think, though often I don’t see the outline until after the draft is written, because after awhile one just internalize this kind of stuff from all the media one ingests. Point is, use if helpful, ignore if not.
Another suggestion for anyone interested: because one of my weaknesses as a writer is sustaining narrative momentum, I’ve recently started using this mystery novel breakdown as a template, even though mystery/detective isn’t the genre I write in. It’s really useful as a way to keep track of what the story needs at a given moment in terms of balance and character.
