Time, fate, and destiny seem to be a huge theme in this season.
Trees are heavily connected to time, and HW has already demonstrated the ability to move backwards and forwards through time through her interactions with trees.
A tree’s existence, then, seems to transcend time, at least to an extent. I also think this is related to the rootspace in some way, and I believe this rootspace is connected to the cosmic owl as well, as I believe the voice that spoke to Huntress was the C.O.’s missing brother. After all, fate and time are interlinked, so it would seem the CO and his brother had similar, but distinct sentences in a manner of speaking.
Which brings me to Finn and Huntress. Remember when Big Destiny was slain in his bed by Peanut and their wolf? I think this foreshadow’s the end of time and destiny as we know it in AT. The cosmic owl’s death represents the breaking of the chains of fate.
This also might mean that Finn isn’t poisoned, at least not the way we think. Finn isn’t a normal human. He is an agent of change itself, and I think Finn and COs hidden brother are actually in a complete deadlock, infected by eachother’s blood. We see it in Finn, but we also saw Finn’s blood conspicuously on the bush as well, along with what looked like blood droplets in the rootspace.
This would also add a new interpretation to Finn’s coma dream. Finn isn’t suicidal, he is locked in endless battle with time itself, which he never wins, but then again he never really loses either. He always comes back, and he is untroubled by his predicament.
Now to go back a bit further: remember who was feeding Finn at the beginning? What did he have to say about breaking cycles?
Remember how choose goose’s grave was prominently shown in the first episode? Remember the orange? I think oranges represent clarity (HW went to orange street and crashed out there and then took an orange fluid to end fionna and fennel’s vision) and the fact that the orange on choose gooses grave, the physical manifestation of the end of choice and the final destiny, was taken specifically by the one entity on Ooo who said “fuck the cycle” and made his own destiny.
When I said that the writing has been fire this season, I mean it. There is a *lot* going on below the surface.
