you guys Need to start seeing bugs as animals im not even joking anymore. the second u start seeing them as tiny animals the more your world opens up and the more you accept different types of life Into that world. youll begin accepting that even life you cant understand is still worth living. and itll legitimately make you a better person. fuck

they probably cant love me back in a human or even mammalian sense, but my goldfish with their smooth pea-sized brain have learned to trust that i will make them better when they are sick. i feel like crying about this often

Maybe Princess the tarantula never had anything resembling what we as humans know as emotions, but she still came out of her burrow and up to the glass when we’d talk to her and used to stare at the drawing I’d tape to her terrarium. Maybe she couldn’t even comprehend what we were, but she knew we were there to take care of her. And even if she never showed that sort of curiosity or trust we’d still love her.

Idk if Munchie the praying mantis felt love for me, but I do know he trusted me enough to climb onto my hand when offered and was comfortable with allowing me to carry him places despite me being absolutely massive in comparison to him. So that's close enough in my book.

my tortoise wakes up every morning and looks up outside of her enclosure as she waits for me to put fresh food in her enclosure, and when i pick her up she doesn't hide in her shell or flinch when my hand reaches for her. when she's out of her enclosure and tired of walking around, she walks over to me and tries to hide under my legs because she knows it's safe there. she doesn't know who i am, but there's love for me in what she does around me.

Even the bozos who say that smug crap have almost definitely loved their car or their house or a prized collectible or even just a favorite movie or band. Unless they live in an empty white room and have no opinions or tastes on anything in the world they have loved things that more literally do not love them back or know that they exist.
