I feel like a lot of people get "All Art is Political" confused with "All Art is made with Political Intentions" which is not the same.

This!! I used to be very anti-“All Art is Political” until I took an art appreciation class where my professor *actually* explained that it means that all art is influenced by the political context of that time/place/era/author/etc. not “All art is made with political intent.”

#A lot of stuff i’ve learned in college has taught me that if everyone took one art appreciation class and one intro to english class #we could eradicate 80% of online discourse.#This realization has only made me that much angrier at the cost of education. I’m not even mad at people anymore #I’m just sad.

#worse version of this is when you’re reading an angsty AU of a character you like #and said character does something that’s frankly completely normal to do actually and than the other characters are like oh my god noooo #why would you do that you’re so sad you’re so sick in the head how could u think that’s reasonable #like now i’m sitting here like but it is. it is reasonable #It’s completely normal and reasonable actually #fuck you

one genre of fanfiction that seems to have mostly disappeared since i became an adult is shenanigans-type fics. like not exactly crack but just "the gang goes to 7-11" type, extremely low-stakes plot stories. the beach episodes of fanfiction. i just feel like i don't see those around so much anymore. whered they go. i miss them :(

They’re still out there! I just think the older you are and the more fanfics—or even published original fiction/non-fiction—you read, the more sensitive you are to the differences between high quality and bad quality writing. This isn’t true for all of them, but those types of fics tend to be written by younger people who aren’t as experienced in writing yet.

Furthermore, I think there’s more pressure towards younger writers to write something more complex and emotionally driven than there used to be. Which causes them to not write shenanigan fics, even if they may have wanted to. I think everyone is just a lot more unnecessarily self-aware now and a lot more easily embarrassed, probably due to the hyper-surveillance that social media brings and the encouragement to share everything with everyone all of the time. But that’s just speculation so I could be totally off, lol.

I actually do think we should discourage women from becoming housewives. Do not become financially dependent on a man. That's how a lot of women ended up dead over the years. A man gets violent suddenly and you have to choose between homelessness or potentially dying at his hand because you have an enormous gap in your resume and no degrees or certifications or anything that will help you pursue a career that will allow you to be financially independent. He owns your bank account. His name is probably the one on the car. Try and leave and he can report it stolen. Where will you go then?

And if you do become a housewife, take steps to protect yourself. Make sure you’re legally married, for starters; stay-at-home girlfriends have very little legal recourse to claim their partner’s assets in a breakup. Make sure your name is on the house deed/rental agreement, and have your car in your name, even if your spouse is paying for it. Have your spouse transfer money every month into an account solely in your name, so you can buy yourself things without needing permission, but also so you can save up to leave if needed.

If your spouse fights you on any of this, then don’t quit your job. The tradwife to poverty pipeline is real, and so is financial abuse.

also, many women/people experience controlling behaviour and domestic violence from their partner for the first time during pregnancy. don’t risk thinking “he’s just stressed, it’ll get better when the baby comes” because it won’t. neither you and your child will ever be safe with that man. get out as early and safely as you can

I am once again begging people to realize that AI checker doesn’t work. it’s never worked. it’s notoriously known to have flagged human-made works as AI and AI-generated works as human-made. and by feeding it people’s works, you are feeding more works to AI, because apparently the machine itself is AI.

the only thing AI checker does is harm genuine artists and people in general too.
