I have many favorite things in this scene but definitely the MOST is the fact that, here, Billy calls Max sister, for the first time, and after having been denying it in front of everyone over and over again. And maybe not before, but once he realizes the situation is really, really weird, he’s suddenly worried, and the truth floods to the surface and he doesn’t even think about correcting himself and that’s so beautiful.

i was rooting for billy to kick steve’s ass in this scene cause he straight laid it out how the situation looked and steve responded with a comment that was ableist as fuck

people also forget that we, the audience, have context as to what the fuck is going on but billy DOESN’T

I love how this gifset in particular show how clearly you can see Billy going from Fuck Around cos he doesn’t care that much, it’s just about how this situation has inconvenienced, affected, and put his skin on the line, to taking it completely seriously because something is Not Okay here.

You can see it his is eyes, gif by gif. First one Billy’s just fucking done. Over the whole fucking evening, he’s been hit by his dad and abused(in front of Susan, who did shit all), had to cancel a date, driven around for potentially ages, flirted with that creep Karen Wheeler (I will maintain til my dying day that he did not enjoy / was not attracted to her here, it was entirely to fill his ego and to get information out of her quicker, and because he likes to manipulate and get on people’s good sides where possible, but he doesn’t actually want her to be attracted to him) so he’s just ready to get Max and go, with just enough mental energy to pay around with his beloved King Steve.

Second gif (of Billy) there’s the confusion of what the fuck is going on, why is he lying? Then in the 3rd and 4th there’s this beautiful moment, which I’ve seen people write about so eloquently, where he’s disappointed in Steve. He thought Steve was an equal. A rival set to be his perfect match. But lying about this, it isn’t high school hierarchy games, its something very wrong.

Which leads to the anger and disgust that starts to fill him through the last 3 gifs. All the masks he puts up leak away and this is the most honest expression you see in his eyes, just as his language, and choice of ‘sister’ over ‘stepsister’ show how he really feels. Ugh tHE ACTING.
