Rants On TV, Film, Arsenal & Other Obsessions

So to the film that I'd been dreading and anticipating the most this summer. The Wolverine. Oh how I love Logan. On the page and on screen. But the first attempt, X-Men Origins... No, just no. They fucked up. Big time. Hell they couldn't even get the damn claws to look right. 

After looking at the trailers for this latest installment, I can't say I was blown away, but it didn't look too bad. Right? Apart from that train bit. Oh and the big Silver Samurai robot bit? Right? RIGHT!?!

Thankfully I can say it was pretty enjoyable and engaging. Maybe because instead of a million and one random mutants we got to focus on our hero. Maybe because they put a bit of blood on the claws this time (but you know not as much as there should/could have been. 12A and all that...). It might have been the fact that, while there was a bit of baggage from previous X-Men incarnations, there were other things to be dealt with plot wise. 

I enjoyed Yukio (Rila Fukushima), the badass sent to find Logan and extract him from he's self imposed exile. She had good chemistry with Logan and could kick arse which is always a bonus. The fight scenes were pretty good. And who'd have guessed that a highlight of the action would have come from the, much maligned from the trailer, bullet train scene.

That's not to say it was perfect. The Viper character was a bit... meh? The love interest here was OK, but nothing to write home about. I guess they have to have them in these films eh? Also while the final fight isn't anywhere as annoying/boring as what we'd witnessed in Man Of Steel, it was still a bit predictable. Still I kind of enjoyed aspects of the fight. Like why it was trying to do what it was trying to do to Wolvie... 

So, surprisingly, I came out of this film more satisfied than I had with Iron Man 3 and Man Of Steel. But of course, that could have a lot to do with the mid credit sting. Woo-friggin'-hoo!!!
